Re: Feature: Our Most Anticipated PS4 Games of 2018

Lurker

Apart from the usual suspects one game that I'm really looking forward to is just around the corner, namely Kingdom Come: Deliverance (the RPG set in Medieval times with no fantasy elements). Based on the lastest batch of previews I'm not anticipating great review scores and I'm sure there are gonna be some issues with the game but this very well could end up being a cult classic down the line.

Re: PSX 2017: God of War PS4 Takes 25-30 Hours to Beat, Says Dev

Lurker

I've only played the first God of War years ago, but I like the direction they're going with this one. It kinda looks like what Naughty Dog did with Uncharted 4, changing the direction a bit without reinventing the wheel, but possibly to a higher extent. I hope for more exploration and depth in this one.

Re: Guide: The Best PS4 Open World Games

Lurker

I haevn't played each and every game on that list but for me The Witcher 3 and GTAV have the best, most detailed open worlds without a doubt.

Then there's Horizon, Sleeping Dogs and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, all great open or semi-open worlds.

The one which I don't think belongs on that list is Dragon Age Inquisiton (and I'm basing it strictly on the open world, not talking about its other flaws). It never felt like a true open world to me..just like several enlargened, empty "maps" with respawning enemies and animals here and there. I never felt those maps were believable places where anyone or anything could live.

Re: Review: Dishonored: Death of the Outsider (PS4)

Lurker

@Quintumply Thanks for the answer! And I have to say you're missing out...those two expansions are, in my opinion, the best part of the whole series. Daud is a true badass, who's a way better narrative fit for this story (make sense if he goes lethal or non-lethal) and he's voiced expertly by Michael Madsen. Also, some of the best levels in the series can be found in those expansions.

Re: UK Sales Charts: NBA 2K18 Leapfrogs PES 2018 at Launch

Lurker

I don't know if there any any basketball fans here....crickets buuut I just wanted to say that, as a total basketball nerd, I can safely say that NBA2K18 is quite possibly the best basketball simulation ever (and a lot of sim heads seem to agree) and I'm loving it.

Re: Divinity: Original Sin 2 Dev Isn't Talking About PS4 Version Just Yet

Lurker

I really, really hope that both this and Pillars 2 get a PS4 release down the line. I've had two tries with Divinity, got quite far into it actually, but somehow I always have tought time immersing myself in it. It's more like appriciate the world that they've created and the things they've done, rather than actually enjoy it (with the exception of the amazing combat system). Objectively speaking though it is definitely a great game.

Re: Review: Dishonored: Death of the Outsider (PS4)

Lurker

@Quintumply How would you say this compares to Knife of Dunwall and Brigmore Witches? (assuming you played them). Those were better and more interesting than the main game, mainly due to Daud, but also the noir feel and some amazing levels. I hope this one, in a similar fashion, is more intriguing and has more character to it than Dishonored 2.

Re: Shenmue 1 & 2 Could Keep Friends Close on PS4 This Year

Lurker

@tameshiyaku Agreed, Shenmue 1 and 2 are among my favorite games of all time, it felt amazing at the time to play them on Dreamcast. (For one It was super immersive to just walk around and explore this small town at the beginning). Just wonder how it feels and plays now after all those years.

Re: Observer Brings Cyberpunk Horror to PS4 on 15th August

Lurker

@Rudy_Manchego Yeah, but I wouldn't call three games and two movies a real flood, considering that two of those games are basically indies and the third one is probably not close to release.
When it comes movies I don't know if either of them are gonna be "big" with audiences, don't know much about the Spielberg one (but meh, it's Spielberg) and the new Blade Runner looks very promising, mainly because Denis Villeneuve is one of the most talented directors around, but I don't think even the most hardcore fans would call this sequel necessary and it doesn't exactly look like a blockbuster mass audiences flock to.
So all in all I don't expect a huge Cyberpunk boom anytime soon, even if it would be really nice.

Re: New Days Gone Gameplay Showcases a Dynamic PS4 World

Lurker

I've literally didn't care about this one after last year's E3. Just another zombie game, just this time they've got more of them on screen. Did I mention I hate zombie games? This year they won me over with those two presentations. Looks dynamic and interesting with a lot of freedom. Hope the story and characters can deliver.

Re: Try 10 Hours of Mass Effect: Andromeda for Free on PS4

Lurker

@Flurpsel The elephant in the room is that only the first Mass Effect had a good/great story, also setting up great Lovecraftian baddes in form of the Reapers. The sequels were botched in terms of storyline (even everyones favorite ME2 had a weak main arc). Only the characters and side stories saved it, and from the look of it, it seems that part is missing in Andromeda.

Re: Try 10 Hours of Mass Effect: Andromeda for Free on PS4

Lurker

Great move by EA in my opinion. The nagtive backlash the game got was so intense and over the top that offering a large chunk of this game to those who were discouraged by it all is wise choice. I'm still waiting for a larger price drop to get it, not many games that can scratch that specific sc-fi itch.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Most Anticipated Games for the Second Half of the Year?

Lurker

Not that many games I look forward to actually.

1. Vampyr is really intriguing and could be a sleeper hit if they'll be able to live up to all the promise
2. Dishonored: Death to the Outsider should be very good, considering the DLCs to the first game were some of the best I've played and generally more interesting than the main games
3. Ni No Kuni II looks gorgeous and could be a nice change of pace game for me, as I'm usually drawn to darker games and themes
4. Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition is on my radar too, even though I've played most of it on the PC. If the combat system holds up I'll be tempted to pick it up.

Re: Feature: The Five Best PS4 Games at E3 2017

Lurker

Spider-Man, Metro:Exodus, Days Gone, God of War and Ni No Kuni II all look very promising to me but how about a list of under the radar games shown at E3? My list would include Call of Cthulhu, Vampyr and Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

Re: Sony: Our Exclusives Are Big on Character and Story

Lurker

The day the industry decides it's time to stop making story and character driven games is the day I'm done with gaming (not that it's likely to happen any time soon). PS4 is my first Sony's console and I'm really, really happy with how diverse the first party output is, even if some of the games are not for me.

On the other side of the spectrum is a publisher like Ubisoft. And I could write an essay on how I dislike their modus operandi. They identify a trend or a fad and desperatly cling to it, spreading it over their whole portfolio. "Seamless online experiences with living, breathing open worlds..."

Re: E3 2017: 4A Games Unveils Metro: Exodus

Lurker

@gbanas92 I've actually read them in Polish, so I was fortunate enough to get 2035 quite some time ago. Transaltion quality wasn't the issue here, but I have several problems with the series itself (especially the shifts in tone between books). Glukhovsky started writing 2033 as a teenager and it's kinda evident he didn't envision it as a series and that as he got older he wanted to focus on different things.

I'm glad he's so involved in games though. Last Light worked quite well as a bridge between 2033 and 2035. Having played it after finishing 2035 made ma appriciate it more. The ending of 2035 allows 4A a lot of atristic freedom I think, so I hope they're gonna improve their formula even more.

Re: E3 2017: 4A Games Unveils Metro: Exodus

Lurker

I'm the guy who never plays FPS shooters, but thanks to its unique blend of shooter, stealth and horror, Metro Redux is one of my favorite games on PS4 (hell, I even played it in Russian to immerse myself better). Looking forward to this despite the fact that I find the third book (and the book series as a whole) slightly dissapointing.

And I'd agree with the author that the ending of 2035 opens up a lot of possibilites and judging from the trailer they look to tap into that potential.

Re: E3 2017: Death of the Outsider Is a New Dishonored Adventure

Lurker

@ApostateMage Man, you should play the two DLCs from the first game. In my opinion they are the best part of the whole series! (and of the better DLCs I've ever played) And seeing the description of this one it seems it might be the case again, as it features more interesting main character and premise.

EDIT. Somehow I missed the "standalone" part...it's getting a retail release! And here I was thinking I had to wait for the GOTY edition down the line.

Re: UK Sales Charts: PREY Hunts Down Mario Kart in Second Week

Lurker

@JLPick I haven't play the original Prey, so it's hard for me to compare the two. From my understanding the first one was more of a classic FPS, while this is a Sci-Fi/horror with some shooter elements, taking place on a big space station, with a big emphasis on exploration, player freedom, various solution to the same problem etc. It seems like a spiritual succesor to System Shock and other games from the immersive sim genre.
You can always try the demo, but bear in mind it's doesn't seem like a good representation of the final game, according to the impressions I've read (many seemed to hate the demo and like the full game).

Re: Review: PREY (PS4)

Lurker

@gbanas92 Great review. How do you feel about the input lag people have been complaining about, which supposedly wasn't fix in the first patch? Also, have they dialed down the volume of the music that kicks in when you encounter an enemy? In the demo it got REALLY loud.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Mario Kart Eats PREY Alive

Lurker

@Fight_Teza_Fight

Yeah, good for those of us who will get it for cheap, bad for the future of the franchises, which sucks.

After Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Dishonored 2 and now Prey sold poorly it looks even worse for this genre.

Re: Round Up: PREY PS4 Reviews Are a Real BioShock

Lurker

@AFCC Depends on what type of games you're into. If you're a person who enjoys sci-fi, spooky atmosphere, exploration, great level design, a lot of freedom in your games, creative powers at your disposal, intriguing story, great music or any combination of the aforementioned elements I'd say the game is still shaping up pretty great

Re: Round Up: PREY PS4 Reviews Are a Real BioShock

Lurker

@Constable_What Early combat can definitely get annoying, but even in the demo you could experiment with the Gloo Gun, invest in an ability to slow time for a moment etc. Overall I'd say combat probably won't be the strongest part of the game (and I'm fine with it as it's not a traditional FPS, I wouldn't call it a "shooter" at all) , but I expect it to get better later on.

@stevejcrow By definition homage sounds a lot better in this context. "Fan made tribute" make the game sound amateurish or as some kind of a hack-job, at least to me (kinda like a lot of fanfiction).

Re: Round Up: PREY PS4 Reviews Are a Real BioShock

Lurker

@Constable_What I'd agree with you on basically every point you've made, yet after playing the demo and getting over some annoyances I still see a LOT of potential in terms of exploration, atmosphere, story, music (which aside from the super annoying loud jump scare attack they got going on in the demo is pretty fantastic) and powers (which we barely see in the demo). As you've said it probably the demo probably wasn't the best way to showcase this type of game

@stevejcrow Fair enough, 10 hours is more than enough to formulate a opinion like that. Still, even after reading your latest comment I think calling it a fan made tribute was a bith harsh.

Re: Round Up: PREY PS4 Reviews Are a Real BioShock

Lurker

@stevejcrow And you're basing this on the full game, the demo or what? Of course you're entitled to your opinion and all that I'm just curious, since as I've mentioned before the early previews/reviews and player feedback seems overwhelmingly positive (there are criticisms of course, and judging from the demo some of them are probably valid) but I haven't seen anyone calling it a copy, "fan made tribute" or anything like that.

Re: Round Up: PREY PS4 Reviews Are a Real BioShock

Lurker

@Tenacious-P Hyperbole much? Is it embarrassing because it draws inspiration from other series while adding some new elements? By your assessment 99% of stuff out there is embarassing.

Even if it will not win GOTY awards, it's getting good early reviews and feedback from players. It's not like the market is flooded with those immersive sims games, so we should cherish each and every one. Seriously, I kinda get why this genre is niche, but it shouldn't be, I bet many players just think those games are some FPS shooters (marketing them as such doesn't help).

Re: Play the First Hour of PREY Free on PS4 Right Now

Lurker

@ApostateMage It's definitely similar. I'd say it resembles Dishonored 2 the most by the way it looks, plays and handles the narrative (at least at the beginning), and Deus Ex/System Shock more because of the setting and all that comes with it.

Re: Play the First Hour of PREY Free on PS4 Right Now

Lurker

It's definitely interesting. I played this in two sittings, and enjoyed the second one way more than the first one. Some random thoughts:

1. It definitely feels like an Arkane game, a lot of similarities with Dishonored 2, splashed with some Deus Ex.

2. So far I'd agree that the Mimics work better on paper than in the game itself.

3. The music is interesting and overall one of the strong points of the demo, HOWEVER the way that they decide to implement it is kinda annoying.

4. Seems like it could be difficult, at least in the beginning (I died several times).

5. Lastly, I'm not sure this particular demo is very representative of the final product because those type of games focus on testing, mixing and matching different abilities and various paths and naturally there isn't much of it present at the very start.
