When Dragon Age: Inquisition launched on PlayStation 4 in 2014, we were confident that it was one of the best role-playing games on the console - mostly because there wasn't much competition. In 2015, however, it more than met its match; The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt basically blew it away in almost every department. There was one area in particular, though, where CD Projekt Red's masterpiece downright embarrassed Inquisition: its side quests.

Where Inquisition offered diary entries and fetch quests, Wild Hunt spoiled us with genuinely interesting personal stories and loads of player choice, raising the bar for the entire genre. Fortunately, it seems as though BioWare is keen to try and follow in The Witcher 3's footsteps rather than its previous project's. Speaking to PC Gamer about Mass Effect: Andromeda, producer Fabrice Condominas says that the studio is taking a more thoughtful approach to side quests.

"We are approaching the completionist aspect very differently, because we've done and learned a lot from Inquisition, but we've also observed what other games have been doing, like The Witcher," Condominas explains. "It was very important for us that the quantity of scope doesn't downgrade the quality of whatever you are doing there," Condominas continues.

Hopefully Andromeda won't just be Dragon Age: Inquisition in space, as many onlookers have speculated. That said, BioWare has confirmed that there'll be enemy camps to capture and crafting materials to scan, so we're still unconvinced that it won't be stuffed with your usual open world guff. At least we'll find out next month, eh?
