ELEX, an open world action role-playing title developed by Piranha Bytes first came to our attention all the way back in 2015. Since then, we're not ashamed to admit that we forgot about its existence entirely, so here we are two years later with a PlayStation 4 release date.
The project promises just about everything: sprawling environments, open-ended exploration, deep RPG systems, tough moral choices, a game-wide faction system, and fast paced combat. There are actually a bunch of early gameplay videos over on YouTube, and while the unfinished release certainly looks rough, we can at least see the potential. Hopefully ELEX doesn't disappoint when it launches on the 17th October.

So.. everything that Mass Effect: Andromeda promised?
Looks like they put a Cole MacGrath skin on Riddick.
I'm OK w/ that.
@FaultyDroid AND MORE
I never go into a game expecting it to be bad, but considering Piranha Bytes hasn't made a single good game to date, I'm keeping my expectations low.
Stereotypical space soldier? Check.
@Eternallover21 I don't think its budget is high enough for it to be considered AAA, but then a game doesn't have to be AAA to be good. The hope is that "b-tier" games like ELEX end up being a very nice surprise. Could happen!
Well I liked the music to the trailer. There's that!
So that's what happened to Cole McGrath
@rjejr My thoughts precisely
@Enuo Well, they made two good Gothic games (and one expansion) back in the day that have a cult following even today. But yeah, their recent output has been pretty bad and from what I've seen this doesn't look that great either.
Budget shouldn't come into it. However much ME:A was budgeted for obviously wasn't enough to get the game out with the polish and refinement we expected - let alone some of the issues that can't be corrected via a patch.
Visual quality isn't necessarily an indicator of budget or quality either and there are a number of 'budget' games that can match up with AAA games in that area.
Game-play too can match up pretty well. Diablo 3 has a few 'clones' in the 'indie' sector - like Van Helsing games for example but budget doesn't mean you have to settle for clunky, unpolished or less content.
Maybe buying ME:A at launch is not worth the £40 but at the same price as some indie game or 'Elex'? time will tell. I believe every game has its price point where it can justify its cost, find its price and that price will be different for most people. Point I am making is that IF you don't enjoy a games MP or Co-op mode, is it worth £40 just for the campaign? If that game drops to £15 does that game have a 'better' campaign than 'other' games at £15? Despite the criticism ME:A had, and I do agree in part that its not a £40 game, it does look better than this does (at the moment) and (if I didn't already own ME:A), I would prefer to spend £20 on ME:A than £20 on this.
People criticised the Order at Full Price but if it cost £10 for example, is it a better game than (most) indie games at £15?
If the budget is too limited to match the ambition, the talent, the time needed to deliver a game, it often turns out bad regardless of its 'status'
My Jack-of-all-trades-and-a-master-at-none sense is tingling ...
I'm getting a "Technomancer" vibe from this. I'm thinking a 6 or 7 out of 10 kinda game.
@rjejr Cole i missed that guy with Infamous.
@Flaming_Kaiser @nathanSF Delsin was a bit much. If anybody misses Delsin he's pretty much the star of Sunset Overdrive which I'm playing now.
@rjejr I agree about Delsin, he was a bit much, a confused and troubled man sizzling about all over the place and unable to get his act together. Thing is, given the circumstances I could never figure out whether it was nature or nurture. Fun game though.
