@gingerfrog
Sounds like a plan.....are they old enough for part time work? My youngest has a part time job at McDonald's so the stars often align so that it's just me and my dog, Jack, on a Saturday afternoon (My wife usually does a bit of shopping on a Saturday arvo).
@MadAussieBloke Will you really hop around all of those games over the weekend?
I find it really hard to have more that 2 games on the go at any one time personally. I usually try and have two very different titles on the go, if I am playing a RPG for example, I will balance it out with a shooter or platformer. I might add a third game for short bursts too if the mood grabs me, usually a racer like Wipeout or MarioKart8 Deluxe.
Hoping to wrap up the criminally overlooked Prey this weekend, with a side order of Zelda: BotW to change things up.
If you like Arkane Studios other stuff you will love Prey, fantastic game, not quite up there with Dishonoured 1 and 2, but great nevertheless. The only real gripe is with the enemy design, but the world building, setting and story are all fab.
By the time I earned the Plat I was well and truly burnt out on AC: Origins. Thats not to say I didn't enjoy it, it was an awesome game but I personally feel like Ubisoft still fall into the trap of filling their world's with rinse and repeat side quests, the map was utterly littered with question marks.
Fabulous game, loved the characters, the story and the incredible setting, just a bit too much repetition of the side stuff.
I am playing Zelda at the moment and so far, there has been so much variety and exploration. Not knowing what's around the next corner instead of seeing a question mark on the map make a big psychological difference in my opinion.
I feel it's unfortunate that people overlook or under appreciate the original trilogy, they were fabulous games at the time and I personally still enjoy them, especially the third game.
I feel it receives a little too much critism regarding Kratos' murderous rage and the misogyny, but that was the character and and the universe. For me, is very much in-keeping with the tone of Greek mythology, there was nothing else like these games at the time, they played fantastically and told a cool story in a cool way.
Having said that, I am not surprised that Sony needed convincing, the series had run it's course but, with the change in direction I think Sony could tell they were onto a winner. Personally, this is amongst my most anticipated this year with TLOU2 and Red Dead 2 the only titles, off the top, of my head that I am more excited for.
@ShogunRok I have been listening to the epic GoW3 soundtrack recently, has really got me excited for more Kratos. Really need to squeeze in a play through of 3 again, its a flipping storming game.
The making of GoW3 documentary is a fabulous watch, really offers a good insight into what goes on in development at a top studio.
To be honest, I have enough of a backlog from 2017 to keep me busy for the next 12 months however, I think am genuinely addicted to buying new games, even when I know they are going to sit on my shelf as part of the collection......I need help!
Incredible list of games, one or two ommissions in my opinion. I think Nioh and Gravity Rush 2 have been criminally under appreciated and under played, people really are missing out!
I also just wanted to take the opportunity to thank all at Pushsquare for providing so much great content throughout 2017, I really like the generally upbeat attitude of the site.
I feel a lot of smaller sites could learn a lot from you guys instead of relying on peddling negativity and contrarian opinions to get traffic. You have proven there is a right way to stimulate interest in a games website, congratulations, I wish you every success for 2018.
Nier was incredible for sure, I loved the subtle music of Nioh too though, really cool, traditional Japanese style music which is perfect to chill out too.
I would be interested to know how people access games soundtracks. I currently use a 3rd party app which I use to manage a playlist on YouTube, its passable but hardly ideal as I have to have my phone screen on to listen.
Anyone know of a better way to do this, soundtracks are hard to come by outside of YouTube I find.
I can appreciate all the positives with this game but I fell off it twice, I am at around the 90 hour mark now and just cannot seem to force myself to finish it.
For all the things it does right, I just feel like it is so bloated and drawn out.
@WhistleFish You are absolutely missing the point, this is a Japanese ad for the Japanese audience....trust me, everyone in Japan already knows what Monster Hunter is!
Personally, I loved the ad but then, I love Japanese media in general. Really excited to try Monster Hunter next month.
One of my favourite titles on PS3, in fact, it was the last game I replayed before I packed my PS3 away.
I am so very excited for this remaster, the fact they are adding content just makes it even more exciting.....cannot wait.
I feel like Sony are delivering just for me at the moment, Odins Sphere was a dream of mine and the remake was incredible, then Wipeout and Crash, then Dragons Crown is announced and now Catherine. If I can just get a re-release of The Puppeteer my dreams will have come true!
@oryo23 You should check out the most recent episode of NoClip on YouTube, its a really cool documentary on the making of Horizon.
Horizon gets my vote as this year's best game, the story was so engrossing, I loved filling in detail with the collectibles too. Combat was incredible, production values second to none and Aloy, what can I say, fantastic!
Burnout Paradise was without doubt, my favourite racer on PS3, I considered it to be perfect in every way. If this gets a remaster it will like a dream come true, there hasn't been a better racer since in my opinion.
I am honestly not saying this as some blinkered fan boy, but I buy new consoles to play new games. Not once have I thought about wanting to play an old game on my PS4, there are too many current games to keep up with.
It is one of those features that would be nice but, in the grand scheme of things, doesn't matter in the slightest.
I don't necessarily think the Oscars should be held up as an exemplar of how an award ceremony should be conducted.
The Oscars are too po-faced and self important and quite frankly, they are as boring as f***. It's all about the actors, and super stars rather than a celebration of the medium and is all very shady as far as the voting process is concerned.
These games awards are in their infancy by comparison and I think that the tone and sincerity is much better and you also have a more transparent voting system. It recognises talent from all over the world and not just the output of one city in the US.
The awards are getting better each year in my opinion.
I couldn't be more excited and intrigued, that trailer set the scene, it set the mood, it demonstrated that Kojima is finally making the game he has wanted to make for the last 10 years with complete freedom......CANNOT WAIT!
@roe Spot on chief, it was just a really cool celebration of gaming. My only real gripe was with the amount of ads and sponsor messages but I guess without these the awards might not be financially feasible so, definitely a price worth paying.
Absolutely a day one purchase for me, not only am I super excited to play it, I want to show my support to the incredible Atlus, what a fantastic publisher, they don't get the love and recognition they deserve in my opinion.
In this era of publishers shafting their customer base, it's nice to see a company like Atlus thriving.
I never got around to playing this back in the day and I do love a good cart racer. I just dont know that they are all that popular these days, outside of MarioKart.
An underrated racer I really enjoyed was Modnation Racers but man the single player was sooooooo hard, it just stopped being fun after you reached a certain point.
Little too late for me I am afraid, I will need to catch it the next day.
Hoping against hope that Horizon gets the GotY nod, but the US do love their Nintendo franchises so I don't see it, not that I am suggesting Mario and Zelda aren't quality, I am enjoying them very much myself at the moment.
Can I just congratulate Push Square on coming up with such a fun competition, it's really fun to consider some of these individual contests. Another way of celebrating gaming instead of all the negative content you find from other similar sized sites on N4G.
Jak & Daxter v Lara was a properly tough decision for me and made me really reminisce about my PS1 days, in the end I plumped for Lara, but it was damn close.
I am gonna say it now, I dont see anyone beating Joel personally.......my man-crush 🤣
I imported my copy before it was ever confirmed for Europe. The Asia region copy of the game came with an English translation so I got in good and early, utterly incredible and in my opinion, influential, game.
@get2sammyb Agree 100% with you about Infinite Warfare, what a belter of a campaign, it was a close run thing with Titanfall 2 for coolest robot/mech in a videogame I thought.
I really like the look of this, as someone who played his Amiga too death, I have played a lot of this kind of game. I get a 'Ruff n Tumble' vibe from this game so I Defo want to get to this as some point.
I would buy a PS5 tomorrow if it were possible however, I think the ideal situation would be to make the Pro the default model next year with a view to launching the PS5 in 2019.
I just wrapped up Wolfenstein 2 and I am currently playing Assassin Creed Origins and they look incredible on Pro. Even if XB1X has the power edge, the games still look fabulous on PRO so I personally think Sony should ignore MS's attempts to play up the importance of its power advantage.
I always feel sorry for Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, if you consider it against the other games of the time, it is a pretty spectacular feat of storytelling and gameplay, I feel it gets a bad rap when these conversations crop up.
Having said that, Uncharted 2 is my personal favourite but that kind of like choosing which model of Bugatti Veyron is best 😁
It's a flipping tremendous game, fair play. I have actually been thinking about it while at work, just itching to get out of the office and home to have another blast.
I think is a shame people missed out on Syndicate as that was pretty great too.
Finished Wolfenstein 2 earlier, what a flipping fantastic game!
Very disappointed by the trophy list though, going for achievable Platinums is what drags me back for multiple play throughs of games I enjoyed, but there are trophies bordering on the impossible this time around. As a result I have put the game on the shelf and will move on to something else, what a shame.
Just popped to Tesco to pick up Assassins Creed......I couldn't resist any longer, very disappointed in my lack of willpower, I wanted to wait for a few weeks yet 😁
My original PS4 had taken 3+ years of non stop use so was extremely loud by the time I upgraded.
My PRO seems extremely quiet by comparison, ranging from almost silent to a slight hum under strain. I personally wouldn't say it is noisy, that's for sure.
My son bought a new slim a few months ago and that thing is practically silent at all time, super impressive.
You have to look at the publishers who decided on such a stupid release date for Hob too. If big titles like Evil Within 2 and Wolfenstein 2 struggle for visibility in such a crowded release window, what chance does a small indie title have?
Honestly, you have to wonder who the he'll us making these dumb decisions sometimes.
Nice review squire, I am very excited to play AC but just want to get Wolfenstein 2 out of my system, I am also thinking of picking up Evil Within 2 before AC.
I figure they will have finished patching in a month or so when I get to it.
It sounds like you really loved the setting this time around and that is the thing I am most excited about, pretty sure I will love this game.
@special_donky Since when has taking a zero tolerance stance on Nazism made anyone a "SJW"? There is nothing in that game that comes across as pandering in my opinion, if people out there are able to draw comparisons with the content of Wolfenstein with what is currently going on with Trump and the extreme right then that says something about the sorry state of society, not the game or it's developers.
I am not going to get into a discussion about this here, as it will only lead to arguments which is not why I come to PushSquare, this community is generally respectful of each other so I think it's best to leave politics out of it.
@VonPit I feel like people are being a little harsh on Marcus and on Watchdogs 2 in general. I didn't think I would relate to Marcus or the rest of the crew at all being a bald, slightly over weight, 40 something white guy, stuck in the 80's who has never been cool in their life.
What do you know, Ubi actually came up with some very likable characters.
I upgraded on the day the Pro launched and I have never regretted it.
Almost every game I have bought since has had enhancements and when you see something like Horizon, The Last of Us, Tomb Raider or Uncharted 4 on PRO it really is impressive.
While it's true that some games take advantage more than others, the majority of games do tend to have quite meaningful upgrades in my experience and this will only increase moving forward.
Some brilliant games on this list, I have bought 6 of them and enjoyed some more than others. I think Spelunky, Isaac and Darkest Dungeon are my faves.
A game missing from this list which is brilliant is Flinthook, it's criminal it didn't make this list in my opinion. Also, a big, BIG shout out to Galak-Z, another stellar title.
Oh yeah, how fantastic is the art for Isaac? I love it, that piccy at the top of the page for example is fantastic.
