@nessisonett nihilism went out style in the 90’s. We are talking about Space! The Human Grit! Exploration! Human bravado! That should excite, not depress.
@RiverGenie yeah it sucks about ED ( game, not male dilemma ) for consoles. I love it and still play from time to time. I was waiting and waiting and hoping odyssey would come out for ps5. Still a solid game but knowing what it could have been really feels awkward. It’s like marrying a your high school girlfriend, then going to college and seeing some of those legendary Aussie women, that you could have dated instead.
@Littlebigmatador I wouldn’t say I disagree totally. I don’t trust AI as a general rule but I do use it some for work. Pending the task it saves me SOME time. more brainpower really ( freeing me up for important decisions) My bigger problem is the same problem I have with Self checkout at the supermarket. The potential to employ Less people and charge the same price, or more. If games got better and less expensive because of AI, I would be more on board with it But in the industry as a whole we really haven’t seen that happen yet.
This sounds good as a statement, but what ISNT being said here? Will there be AI writing? AI quest development? They want to get credit for human art- and that should be celebrated- but is this just another company trying to thread the needle? Like “ Look at this shiny good thing we are doing over here” while doing other less popular things that aren’t talking about? Guess time will tell.
Seems like there is so much larger things that Sony could focus on. Gamers adapt easier to menus than other stuff (amiright steam). Is it a good change? Maybe. Relevant by comparison? Doubt it. How bout focusing on pricing issues, removing the middle tier of ps plus, or something of that nature?
I can’t wait to play this. Got a few before this to beat, but I’m getting this. And all DLC. Really don’t care how low it scores. I want to see what Bethesda can do with this.
@TheDarts they can’t help it. They know they have no REAL importance, so they let their emotional incontinence flow. It’s like when children have to outdo each other, and say something wilder than the last person to get a reaction. When that don’t work they say something even stupider. Having read through the Bible, and knowing what’s in store I feel sorry for them.
@Metonymy they mock God at their own peril. The Bible says God will not be mocked. It also says to take heart for if the world hates you, know that it hated ( Jesus) first. Typically I don’t let igmos ( ignorant mofo’s) bother me. I pray for them. The idea of a Jesus simulator has not really sat well with me though. I’m not sure it would not be tainted by multiple influences that run counter to God’s word.
I’m eventually going to buy this one. I was budgeting timewise for late fall or late winter, but they are sure tempting me to get it sooner than i am expecting.
Another thing Sony fails to take into account is that the gaming landscape has changed so much since ps4. It’s not just Xbox vs ps for console dominance now. Couple that with their ( potentially incorrect) assumption that majority of their user base WANTS a pro or a 6. I really enjoy my PS5 and my WD black 2 terabyte drive. To upgrade, I’d have to buy not only the console but also a new tv to see a graphic difference. Thats so far out of my gaming budget that I can’t justify it. If I get another system It’s going to be switch or I’ll put more ( less than the cost of a console) into my PC.
Given that the sales don’t account for used market, I doubt we will ever know. In my area there are a lot of pawn shops and used physical media stores. I have noticed that when Prices increase- Disc Traders can’t keep the used consoles in stock. They even send texts with “extra trade in value for current gen systems and controllers”. Same for like vehicles when price rise, it’s not that they stop buying they just shift sales to other uncountable ( is that a word?) places. Or private party sales.
@GeeEssEff thank you( ?). I mean it seems pretty obvious to say that being black isn’t a controversy but I’m not sure what they teach other races about us non white people ( or whatever the pc term is now)Like why that would be a leap?
@Llamageddon oh ok I see what you mean. yeah I don’t base my gaming on his cultural views ( or anybody’s). Frankly couldn’t care less if he supports lgbtq. He is a funny guy and a great actor. Seems like a great move to add him in.
@opo02 you misspelled die. I’m sure it’s an autocorrect thing lol my phone does that to me often. If you are meaning to say that call of duty is dead, it is not. And this won’t kill it.
@Llamageddon I did read the article. In the last paragraph the author refers to Dave Chapelle as a controversial Comedian. What’s controversial about being black? After all the game itself is called “black ops”.
Aside from it being a game I don’t really care about ( as I prefer battlefield series), I don’t see anything wrong with putting a black character In the game. Not sure why that would be controversial as it’s is 2026 not 1953
Of course this was going to be a banger! It is Bethesda after all. Expecting this to get mediocre sales would be like expecting an ea game to get poor sales. Like them or hate them-the games. Always.Sell.
@BamBamBaklava89 the big question, kind a like chicken or egg, is which came first: the consumer/ demand for brainless free to play trash, or the developer of free to play brainless trash?
Meh. I’m sure as one developer shuts down, 3 more will open up. And I’m sure these skilled people will find work in other companies. Such is life. Well written article to be sure, but I don’t believe this is a bellwether for the industry.
@Bunchesopuppies I mean I play a lot of great board, trading card and ttrpg games also. Why wait til gaming prices go up? Made a lot of real life friends in the “analog” gaming world. Some even play videogames with us. Gaming is what you make it friend. I wouldn’t watch paint dry though, unless it’s body paint- but that a whole nother level of “gaming”.
Silver lining is that all those game sales that Sony had, that caused many people to hoard and not finish/or not replay games ( guilty) will be remedied. And if enough people play through their libraries instead of buying new games or a new system, it may give time for economic uncertainties/ shortages/ whatever to ease. Another great thing is the used hardware stores will get a boost. Seriously-Disc traders was practically begging for people to sell them their used consoles.
As a casual gamer with a limited budget, and having acquired multiple platforms and systems, this affects me less than most people. Even with that I don’t think it will make gaming itself unaffordable. I think it will change the landscape. I think sales will shift to other places ( like pc or switch)I was never considering buying pro or a ps6. Even being optimistic about gaming overall- what bothers me is it’s becoming obvious that Sony is starting to take Microsoft’s view of gamers. Microsoft thought that brand loyalty beat great pricing and quality features. They took their base for granted and Sony capitalized on it. Clearly Sony execs aren’t students of their own corporate and marketing history.
@bleeflooflah oh I’m sure that’s true, I don’t follow a lot of videogame Journalist ( and I don’t do social media). What I meant is trying to point out that the way it’s worded made me feel like either he was being sarcastic, or was trying to overstate that the guy was a good journalist. Kinda like “ I know I’m quoting from bluesky BUT this guy is ACTUALLY reliable”. LOL
@LogicStrikesAgain I don’t entirely disagree with you but I think there is more to it than that. Every company has waste somewhere, whether redundancies, poor management , or unnecessary overhead ( free gourmet coffee, catered lunches, unused office space/ rent etc). Video-games are no different. Plus high tax areas don’t help.
Couple of points here. 1. Yes there has to be a way to start cutting production costs in half. Even adjusting for inflation, there is no reason to for a video game to cost more than many movies. This is far beyond bonkers. 2. I get it’s bluesky and as such already untrustworthy, but when you have to state “reliable” ( insert news site here) Journalist, it really has the opposite effect. Or maybe I missed that it was sarcasm?
Mc Escher would be inspired. Is this like the videogame version of a Picture of a person looking at a picture of a person looking at a person looking at a pic…. You get the idea.
I think it should be the “ Super Playstream And Service Matrix” or SPASM. That would be awesome new marketing: “ hey there bro what are you doing today?” “ I’m bout to jump on that SPASM and blast some goons” “yeah I was just about to SPASM when you called”. That would be great.
refunds for a free game-what a concept. Was it even out long enough for that many people to purchase stuff? Well maybe the studio is on High Guard for any disgruntled (former)player disparaging the game. see what I did there? Lol
Nice! Going to give this one a whirl. I may have to wait a bit cause I’m not going to pay full retail. Can’t wait to experience how well they jumped out of their comfort zone.
@RiotShieldsHurt bro you may want to seek medical help for what you are experiencing! In the medical field I believe that’s referred to as having a stroke. That nonsense word salad is a sure sign. @BAMozzy yeah not everyone wants a console, or can afford multiple platforms. And that’s ok. Looking at this from a business perspective, the juice may not be worth the squeeze. Sometimes it’s worth it to leave a little money on the table, and strengthen the brand or whatever. I don’t think this is all about money here. Sony seems to be making moves to change the companies business model. Sony isn’t trying to Screw anybody any more so than Steam or Xbox. In the words of a small band called the Rolling Stones: “You can’t always get what you want….” ( amazing song btw)
Try not to color with too broad of a brush here. Yes-there are pc players that are absolute nothing burger nutbags ( the type of losers that would cheat at a mp game just for bragging rights)that want control, just to feel like they had the power to influence a publisher.
