Publisher THQ Nordic has announced it's bringing Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition to PS5. Unveiled via the above trailer, it looks like this will be a pretty straightforward port of the action title, and it launches on 15th October 2024.
The original Darksiders 2 launched for PS3 in 2012, while the Deathinitive Edition's origin can be traced back to 2015 on PS4. While the PS4 rendition is playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility, it's getting its own current-gen version, though what the exact benefits of the port are remain to be seen. What we do know is that owners of Deathinitive Edition on PS4 will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version for free.
THQ Nordic also stresses that this announcement is not related to the recent Darksiders teaser, which will presumably be something new.

I'll take this for a few quid if it's 60FPS.
Oooooh interesting, I never got round to getting Darksiders 2’s remaster yet so will definitely be getting the PS5 version of it for sure
@MrPeanutbutterz From that trailer it looks like it is. Which is basically all we need really. The PS4 port was shackled by 30 and that was the only thing stopping me from double dipping.
Nice! And the price is perfect.
I’m really easily amused because I spat my tea when I read the headline.
@themightyant what is the price?
I expect more thq PS4 to PS5 ports , they're desperate for money. Any word if there trophy autopop?
I expect the same treatment for Darksiders 3. I love it despite its technical flaws.
I wonder if this was done as a tech exercise building towards the next entry to get used to the PS5.
Surely there aren't enough people asking for this to make it profitable??

Sorry, couldn't resist 😜
And they still aren't fixing new game plus. I just want to use the Aftermath somewhere other than the Crucible. That's not asking too much.
I loved this franchise ever since I've seen the first Darksiders' trailer way back in 2007.
And I finished the first 2 games at least 5-6 times each over the years, once on Xbox 360, once on PS3 and the rest on PC.
Darksiders, Prototype, Infamous, Uncharted, God of war... damn good years to be a gamer !
Darksiders 3 carries an even bigger meaning for me, not because it was a better game (it never surpassed the first 2 games) But because it was the title that pushed me towards entering the Soulsborne genre.
It's not 100% a Souls like game, but when it launched the only combat style it hat was of the punishing variety.
I've finished it some time before the devs added the "classic combat mode" or whatever it's called.
And it was my love for this franchise got me to push through all the despise I had for it's difficult combat, and stick to it 'till the end.
Seeing that I was able to pull this off, and that I even started to enjoy it, made me want to give Bloodborne a try - and the rest is history.... I got hooked on the genre with no chance of escape, and it's all Darksiders 3's fault ^__^
Can't wait to see what Darksiders 4 has in store for us!
Maybe they can manage to include a 2-4 riders coop mode ? That would be appropriate for the 4th game, and I think it would be very appreciated by gamers.
THQ Nordic has a huge merch store in one of the most expensive spots in the city I live in. I never see anybody in there. I don't think anybody is wild about destroy all humans, biomutant, darksiders or elex merch... Unless it's a storefront to do a certain thing with money, I just don't get it.
Shame it's just the second game and not a bundle of the trilogy. That would of got a day one buy from me.
@colonelkilgore Free upgrade for anyone that already owns it.
@MrMagic NOICE!
@colonelkilgore Free upgrade if you own the PS4 version. €30 if you dont, but if you got PS Plus you can pre-order it for €15 atm in the store.
@MrPeanutbutterz Its €15 atm if you have PS Plus and pre-order. Assuming you dont have the PS4 version to upgrade for free.
@WizzNL cheers buddy. Yeah I have the ps4 physical, so happy days 🥳
This is awesome 😄 I hope Darksiders 3 is next!
I played the PS4 remaster on launch, many years ago. A very good game, full of content and inventive adventure!! Death is so cool as a protagonist!
That headline makes my head hurt.
What a complete mess of a headline! Thats modern gaming for you
No im good i already got it on my ps4 pro.word up son
DS2 is one of my all-time favorites! Just a solid game, good gameplay, fun story and amazing soundtrack!
DS2 made me the most teeth squeezing to finish. I love DS1, I liked DS2 too, but - the hell - it was sooooooo loooooong... For action game it was ...ehhh... The most long action game I've ever finished and never want to replay it.
That article title encapsulates everything wrong with the gaming industry.
The best non-Zelda Zelda style game apart from possibly Okami. If it is a decent upgrade I would play this again.
I'll get that if it's 60fps. I've been hoping they'd do that.
Doing a definitive edition for 3 or Genesis sure, but 2 sigh. Also to gauge interest..... be in the news again. Sigh. Sure sure. Not rebuying them got them all on PS4, happy that way.
For those that never got around to it by all means.
For a better than stuttering at times or loading screens still being noticeable during some regions of the map it pausing to load, something you'd expect from Half Life 2 on the OG Xbox that sort of trying it's best to be continuous but just can't load it that way, this will be a good upgrade for the game finally to make it more seamless, if done well that is. That and smoother frame rate and more for sure.
Would 5 even be a Strife game or not as Genesis was a prequel with Strife, 1 and 2 have his weapons? I forget the events for the character.
Also 2 is a good game but also was rushed in ways. Not the best even if the only 'open world'/multi-region RPG type game of the series.
Or as if 3 isn't the more one to tell besides it's soulslike focus like Chronos and Remanent have as same dev.
Only disliked 3, 1, 2 and Genesis were great. Hope 5 comes about and is different like the other games are all different in the series, I think they mentioned prior it was by the 3 dev team, not looking forward to that.
That headline is a mouthful. The first three Darksiders games are awesome! (I didn't play Darksiders Genesis, so can't speak to that.)
Holy moly, that headline is confusing. That said, I need to give this series a go. I remember playing the first one when it released and I got stuck at a part and couldn’t figure out how to get past it so I never played it again. I need to remedy that.
@SuntannedDuck2 Don't need to rebuy its a free upgrade for existing owners.
Hoping for 60fps and 4k but as a Darksiders fan, I'm happy no matter how it arrives. Michael Wincott's voice acting as Death is amazing. I hope this exposes new fans to this underapreciated epic world.
No 1 remaster? Glad 2 is getting the treatment but 1 always held a special place in my gaming heart.
They gave this for free to any owner of it on Steam at the time it plays far worse than the original on steam let that sink in
@DennisReynolds I know I found that out more with Pure Xbox's article of it as well, I didn't see the PS4 mention of free upgrade.
But thanks for confirming for me.
You never know with some companies and remasters/repurchases or free upgrades these days.
