That statement is corpo speak for 'we don't want you getting any discounts on games, we're gonna find a way to screw you out of it while still forging the path to a digital only future'
Blaming Trump Tariffs is mostly a convenient excuse just to chase more profit for most of these corporation's doing it.
Heck my local chippy left an apology latter on the wall to it's customers for the steep increase in the price of battered fish. Because, yeah you know the fish poked their head out of the water and told the fisherman "we're charging more to catch us because tariffs"
It really is surreal that Microsoft finds more success selling on a rival platform than their own. But I always said that the advocators for GamePass have been mentally conditioned to not buy games where as PlayStation players do buy games.
As a person who was a die hard physical gamer even I've started to embrace digital. For a couple of reasons.
1) many times now I'm finding the full content is not on the disc despite there being enough space a third is sometimes cut out with the disclaimer on the box "requires content download"
2) I'm very worried that the next gen consoles won't offer a physical drive and out the gate will be fully digital with no physical compatibility with PS5 discs or otherwise. They're transitioning that and mentally conditioning people to accept it by releasing digital only consoles with the option of an attachable drive that many won't buy or even know about.
3) since the tariffs I'm finding for the first time ever some physical games are costing more than their digital counterparts.
I miss my discs. But this is it, even for me. Atleast I still have a fairly large PS4 and retro physical collection to go back to. That being said, even though I'm against the high seas, if Sony ever screw me over from taking away access to my digital purchases then all bets are off and I screw them over...
Microsoft will be named publisher of the year no doubt about it come this years inception. What with the Oblivion and Gears port, and a possible Halo port in the fall will secure that.
@IronCrow86 being primarily a PlayStation player, personally it wouldn't bother me in the slightest if Sony ported first party games to Xbox. Heck I might even get a Series X if they did.
@Kraaatos I don't think much of the guy (Jim) but I totally read this in Liquid-Ocelot's voice remembering the scene in MGS4 lying on his back "somewhere up there.. I know he's laughing"
It's not a 'physical collectors edition' if there isn't a physical game. Sorry Sony, that's not a 'complete physical collection' that's a digital collectors edition.
@UltimateOtaku91 I kinda feel rotten too because I was home all day yesterday and my brother was at work until nearly midnight on the late shift. So I was winding him up texting him that I'd bought it before him and was almost glassy eyed with a tear when you hear the opening music and Patrick Stewart talking as the emperor. It just hits. He's a huge fan of Elder Scrolls and has been wishing this remake is real for so long.
The only thing in recent memory that comes close to this remake quality is Resident Evil 4 Remake imo.
@UltimateOtaku91 I've had it crash on my twice so far but there was a patch this morning so hopefully should be good. I play all my games in performance mode rather than resolution mode. That being said it's really well done for a launch day and a lot of love has been put into it you can tell.
Absolutely. I couldn't press the buy button quick enough as soon as it appeared on the store. Great memories playing this classic in a modern, clean look.
Constantly refreshing the UK store waiting for it. Dammit Sony pull your finger out, you must have known about it's existence since it would have had to be prepared for launch day.
On the PlayStation sub-reddit customers are furious about it and I don't blame them. Sony are going to lose more than they think they'll gain from this. And likely future customers too for being treated this way.
And Sony will be losing customers with their greedy practices of price increases not once but twice for hardware in a single gen. And given their disregard for their customers during difficult times just for the sake of more profit I for one will not be getting a PS6 at launch if at all.
The Nintendo Switch 2 however is pre-ordered and confirmed for day one. For what you're getting I personally find the asking price for the MKW bundle reasonable.
Nothing against Shu though, love the guy. And over on the Nintendo side I miss Iwata and Reggie. All great guys.
@nomither6 yeah I'm in that boat too, the PS5 generation I've bought less games than any generation before it. That's not just due to the price increases and that I've become more selective but because there are barely a handful of interesting or 'must play' games being developed as time goes on (in my opinion) and some I've played are not very memorable or warrant another playthrough anytime soon. I bought Star Wars Outlaws and Dragon Age Veilguard when they came out based on past experiences of those names and franchises and I personally found them very disappointing and ended up regretting buying them. I think I can only name two games that were worth my money or just off the top of my head since the start of this gen which would be Hogwarts Legacy and the Resident Evil 4 Remake. I find myself not wanting to even boot up the console much these days beyond just talking to some friends and not even playing anything. Which is a little sad compared to bygone years. Either way I don't intend to partake in the services and would gladly play my PS2/3 and such in the future.
Edit- and the fact some are suggesting new consoles around the 2026/7 time I'm not ready or onboard for it given how this gen is going and it feels they're just pushing hardware for the sake of money when it isn't necessary and the games just aren't there.
@Toot1st I remember a time when things didn't always go up every year or even twice or more per year. But companies of all kinds have seen the opportunity and will continue yearly hikes. Not just in gaming but every damn week I find the groceries I buy creeping up, and my ISP put my broadband up twice in one year and soon they will be increasing it in June again by £20 per month bringing it to nearly £70 just for 250mb broadband. I've been with them for 18 years and loyalty gets you nothing. Unfortunately no other provider can offer the same service stability in my area and they know it so I'm stuck.
@nomither6
I wasn't insinuating any fanboyism so forgive me if that's how it came across. I was simply stating that while you're right some people do have short memories over some things (not you). And it isn't fair to point fingers at any one side. Both are bad as eachother. And these things in particular in this discussion I don't support them on.
Unfortunately it's gone too far to end. Some hope Microsoft will make online play free, which as they dig further into the service trench that won't happen nor will Sony ever go back on that. And in the end gaming will never get less expensive than it is even when the current economic struggles of the world calm down. For now I'm fortunate to be able to afford playing games but who's to say how far the rabbit hole will go until I'm priced out or anyone is. Fortunately I have my retro consoles and game collections to last a lifetime.
Personally I've never used their services or gamepass beyond just accessing online play. The rental services aren't something I want and just selectively buy my games to play at my leisure. These days mostly on a sale given price increases. I do dread the day that these services will become the only way to play anything once they phase game purchases out. Atleast that's where I see it ending up but let's hope I'm wrong.
paying to use your own internet is a scam. there is absolutely no reason in 2025 to pay to use your own internet to connect to a game developers server that sony has nothing to do with
True. But I also remember a time during the Xbox 360 that you couldn't access your Netflix account that you already pay for without paying Microsoft for Xbox Live just to start up the app. Or that free to play games were also locked behind Xbox Live therefore not making them free to play. After the PS4 launched which didn't have these restrictions after introducing paid online play there was a lot of negativity finally thrown at Microsoft for that once people woke up and then they removed the requirement of having Xbox Live to access those services that shouldn't have been paywalled. Of course one doesn't justify the other but Microsoft are far from innocent.
@OldGamer999 thing is gamepass also periodically goes up and I'm almost certain another price hike given what's happening in the industry and the world is likely right around the corner. There's no way Microsoft won't take advantage of this.
I wish more people who advocate piracy understood this. I've tried telling those kind of people for years that it hurts the industry more than it helps it. And it'll have an increased negative effect. But so many people try to justify the fact that they want something for nothing. And that's mostly the real reason.
@UltimateOtaku91 I said back at the reveal that the Series S is a big mistake and will hold the gen back. And I'm not the only one, many YouTubers at the time and even some developers said the same thing. Yet I was told by many of the fans I was crazy and Microsoft is smart to do it and that it will fly off the shelves giving them a big foothold because it's a cheap entry point with the only difference being "it's just a 1080p Series X". I guess I, and a few others were right.
Developers have since openly said they've avoided Xbox because of the requirements of having to release a game for both versions. But the fans choose to reject that either stating that they're lazy or paid off by Sony. They'll never admit the truth, that the Series S should never have existed.
I don't know what's going to happen with GTA6. It will either have to be a PS5 console exclusive or Microsoft will likely have to allow it to be on Series X only since it's not likely to run on the Series S if it's as ambitious as Rockstar suggests. That'll be an interesting time to witness over there.
I think any Japanese developer would think twice selling to Microsoft after what they did to Tango Gameworks. Release a critically successful game, boast about it's success then shut down the developer? Weird way to show job security.
And they can't even handle what they have. Firing people left and right and shutting several studios and yet want more. Xbox is severely mismanaged at this point and shouldn't be allowed to have anything else until they can prove they're not totally incompetent. And that they stick to their agreements of "not shuttering studios, firing people and nurturing talent" that was the bs line during the FTC trial.
Sony shouldn't back down. They beg so much for PlayStation games then they should suck it up. You'd think if they want them that bad they'd stop stomping their feet like entitled children.
Personally I'm loving the game. I was there day one. I don't know why people say the character creation is bad, it's literally one of the most I'm depth I've ever seen. They complain you can't make female bust sizes bigger (you can, I created a female character), they say it's riddled with woke stuff, I'm halfway through the game and the only thing that resembles anything like that is selecting a pronoun at character creation. And one character that complains about her gender.
The game is beautiful looking, well written and polished, no bugs so far at all. And when do games come out like that these days?
And the announcement of no DLC, I'm good with that because we got a complete game at launch. Because in most cases I moved on and don't go back for DLC because I got stuck into something else.
Honestly, BioWare did great here but haters gonna hate. And they'll double down even when they realise they're wrong and baseless on their reasons. Review bombing is incredibly childish. Or entitled behaviour.
I was a backer for this game when it was announced on Kickstarter and while playing it made me feel like a kid with an N64 again I've still yet to finish the original.
And as of now the app kept telling me "something went wrong" when I attempt to access the Stars section as the email says to accept the new T&C's, so I log out and log back in and PS Stars have gone completely.
Typical Sony they have no clue when it comes to software and apps to make them work right. This is one area Microsoft does excel in I can say.
It's worth noting that the app had PlayStation Stars disappear entirely a couple of weeks back which was a bug so this is probably just another bug. I hope so anyway because it helped soften the blow when I started buying more digitally.
I don't know if the person making those comments is trying to pick holes but I don't see the big deal. Do people really need to be wrapped in cotton wool these days?
Unless I'm very mistaken and confused by what this article is saying people just need to lighten up a little these days. Stop making a big deal out of everything. And play. Or don't.
A shame. Sony want their live service games and they have the perfect canvas with Killzone, Socom and Resistance. Why are execs so short sighted? They have the perfect IP's for it and don't use them. Instead they make a flop called Concord.
I'm fortunate to still have my original disc copy of Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2 in the cupboard and still play them via my PS2 (with a RetroTink) or my PS3.
This does suck though. Even though I have those I planned on buying this but I won't subscribe to any PS+P or GamePass service.
I don't know what capcom are thinking here or whether Sony have any say on distribution. If this is going to be a market engagement test for interest in the IP then any future potential for Dino Crisis is already extinct. And I've been whining for years on capcom forums and pages for a reboot as many have.
@FlyingPig Completely agree and it's something I've said to a few younger people that weren't around in the 80's/90's that games then had more vision and creativity because they could afford to do it. Games weren't as expensive to make back then so they could take the chance on a flop.
That being said I remember a time when it was said that in those days if a game sold 100,000 copies it was considered a big success. Now a game that doesn't sell a million could be considered a failure.
But yeah. There were so many weird and wacky ones back then that we were spoilt for choice and everything felt like a unique experience because of it. I'm tired of pushing for photo realism. Give me the likes of more Shovel Knight. Remember Nightmare Creatures? And Gauntlet Legends? Those didn't sell well but fantastic games.
Steep asking price for this but I loved it back in the day so I'll end up buying it especially if it has trophies. Weird that I get more excited for PSX ports these days than new games. Either I'm getting older, or they were much better, or both.
They may have crashed into the ground over the last couple of years but let's hope Microsoft doesn't pull out the chequebook and bury them below it like they've done to everything they've bought so far. I don't have much love for Ubisoft these days but anything is better than that company that have no clue what they're doing. I mean they're even having to ask developers where they're going wrong to get games on their platform which says it all really. Even if Tencent take them it's a step up from that hell.
But to be fair Ubisoft have said since the start of this gen that they would be open to offers. And no one has bitten yet it looks like.
@Yousef- For me, nothing beats the authentic experience of the original console. Emulation just can't match the "feel" of that no matter how shiny you make it. I still play my PS2 using retrotink upscalers and the games play great on a modern TV.
Love the art on that disc. If you know, you know 🤭. I'm hyped and looking forward to playing even though I still have the PS2 version and HD remaster the remake models look stunning. I'll probably play as far as the hospital, save it and go back in 5 years when I can deal with the trauma of the nurses. 😆

Re: Aspyr Brings Back Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles, Out for PS5, PS4 in January
@FlyingPig
Completely agree and it's something I've said to a few younger people that weren't around in the 80's/90's that games then had more vision and creativity because they could afford to do it.
Re: Aspyr Brings Back Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles, Out for PS5, PS4 in January
Steep asking price for this but I loved it back in the day so I'll end up buying it especially if it has trophies. Weird that I get more excited for PSX ports these days than new games. Either I'm getting older, or they were much better, or both.
Re: Ubisoft Comments on Buyout Reports, Says That It 'Regularly Reviews Options'
Re: Silent Hill 2 Remake Breaks Street Date, PS5 Discs Loose in the Wild
@Yousef-
For me, nothing beats the authentic experience of the original console.
