The one-two punch of them showing a trailer for the Gran Turismo movie into Jim Ryan popping up to say 'thank you for joining us today' was absolutely legendary in the worst way possible; I vividly remember almost everyone in the Push Square livechat absolutely SEETHING with disappointment XD
Such a bizarre event to witness honestly. At a time where both Nintendo and Xbox were firing off big release after big release, Sony having such a comparatively subdued showing of games that, for the majority, weren't even going to release until 2024 and beyond seemed like such a short-sighted move. I'm hopeful the next one will be better as, for all its faults, stuff like MGS3 Delta, Dragon's Dogma 2 and Spider-Man 2 definitely bolstered 2023's showcase but yeah: one of the strangest gaming conferences of the last while for sure.
still probably better than most of Geoff Keighley's shows though XD
It's pretty hard for me to feel excited for this given the sheer number of layoffs/closures going around the industry in addition to Keighley's recent showcases feeling less and less like 'gaming' events and moreso just 'events which happen to feature games'.
Capcom and SNK are gonna be here though so eh: may as well give it a watch if I have the time I guess.
Tango put out both a highly lucrative horror series in The Evil Within and possibly the most beloved shadowdrop of all-time in Hi-Fi Rush and Microsoft decided it STILL wasn't enough; what the actual f*** man.
Really hope everyone laid off from these changes manages to find their footing quickly because jesus christ man this is absolutely horrid.
I haven't played either Alan Wake game yet myself but I definitely plan on doing so in the future (especially AW2 because WOW does it look phenomenal) so this is heartbreaking to hear given how much both critics and fans love the series. Tencent doubling down on their investment in them also has me a fair bit worried given their....let's just say dubious morals.
I've been meaning to watch TTAAS for the longest while now (its pretty much the only isekai I'm actually interested in XD) so seeing it finally get a video game adaptation in a genre typically avoided by licensed anime games has me immensely intrigued. Might give this a go depending on how it reviews!
It might just be the Stockholm Syndrome I've developed from pouring 200+ hours into Pokemon Scarlet/Violet over the past while but for a game as massive as DD2 appears to be, dips of around 10-ish frames doesn't seem like too much of a dealbreaker for me (and I can't emphasise enough: FOR ME). Really wish they'd just put a cap on the FPS if it fluctuates this much though; something like a Performance Mode that caps it to 30FPS most of the time would be a good band-aid fix for right now methinks.
This is nasty as hell and Capcom absolutely deserve the stick they're getting for this....but I already have a 99% hunch that people are going to forget about this about a month after release if games like DMC5, RE4R and countless others are anything to go by: if the game itself is good without the need for MTX, the ire surrounding stuff like this starts to fade away into the background most of the time. I still despise it with a passion don't get me wrong, but given the s*** Capcom's pulled in the past when it came to DLC/MTX (especially during the early 2010's), this is comparatively quite tame.
EDIT: @Shepherd_Tallon's thoughts on the matter pretty much sum up my overall opinion on this to a tee 👍
YEAHHHHHHHHH LET'S F***ING GOOOOOOOOOOO
I definitely want to play the original game first so that I can fully appreciate all the improvements DD2 makes but this'll be an instant purchase once I do; CapGod's only gone and done it again folks 🤩
what is it with sequels to Sony spinoff systems bombing compared to their predecessors I'm very sad PSVR2 has ended up this way myself though, at the same time, I can't say I'm particularly surprised given the extremely hefty pricetag, lack of substantial support and general feeling of '....why don't I just get the original?'.
I'm not even exaggerating when I say that this month is worth it for the Ace Attorney Trilogy alone; one of the best games I've ever played and I'd highly recommend you to give it a go now if you have PS Plus Premium!
Other than that then, this looks like a pretty alright selection, albeit one without too much that wows me besides Ace Attorney.
also, I don't know if this was intentional, but having DBZ: Kakarot be available for people to try out after Toriyama's passing feels very sweet ❤
Until Dawn is probably my favourite game I've never played (right alongside Resident Evil 7) and I've been praying that the rumours of a remaster/PC port were true ever since they first started coming out, absolutely ecstatic to see this!
I think the one thing that does slightly concern me though is the new 3rd-person perspective as a lot Until Dawn's tension was sort of built around it's fixed angles (a la old Resident Evil games) so I'm interested in seeing what accommodations they make to the game as a result 🤔
Really good and a lot better than a lot of their previous presentations I gotta say; Until Dawn PS5/PC port and Sonic X Shadow Generations are definitely my personal favourite announcements but this SoP was filled with great trailers from start to finish.
Until Dawn was already made to be an 'interactive movie' kind of game so a film adaptation definitely makes a ton of sense (why they decided to do it almost a decade after the original came out I have no idea but eh, you do you Sony), though I'd be lying if I said the notion that the director behind Shazam will be behind it didn't concern me immensely. The reason I love Until Dawn as much as I do was because of how it's wonderfully campy tone slowly morphed into something genuinely unnerving as the game went on and I'm not sure a director like Sandberg can really capture that meticulously designed descent into terror.
then again I'm also the kind of person who enjoyed the FNAF movie so what do I know XD
of course the one Capcom game that gets announced is attached to the one Capcom series I don't care for XD
While I've personally never been able to click with Monster Hunter personally, I fully recognise just how massive this announcement is and man does it look good from the small snippet we got to see of it. The MH faithful may have had to wait a damn long while for substantial news but their patience has been well and truly rewarded, Wilds looks AWESOME.
Started off pretty strong but severely petered out as the proceedings continued. I don't think it's the worst one I've seen but that's not really saying much given how I don't think we've ever had a TGA be anything above 'pretty good'.
The SEGA and Monster Hunter reveals were sick though 🔥
As much as I was personally rooting for either RE4R or Mario Wonder to take home GOTY this year, Baldur's Gate 3's win is one million percent deserved and I'm over the moon for Larian
Absolutely phenomenal write-up Rob! I heavily relate to the idea of a single RPG being such a groundbreaking and important title in someone's life, though for me, rather than it being FF, it was another RPG series that you may or may not have heard of: Pokemon. More specifically? Pokemon Black. It was the very first game I ever owned and opened my eyes to the wondrous worlds and surprises that games could offer and my child mind became hooked on the medium. Over 12 years, 3 separate console lifecycles and 4 generations of Pokemon later, Pokemon Black still remains as my favourite game of all time for not only being one of the best RPGs/games ever made (in my humble opinion) but for being my gateway into a world filled with creativity, excitement and wonder galore.
I remember when 2K pulled something very similar (though admittedly worse than this) with their NBA games a couple years back. Still absolutely ghoulish what Ubisoft trying to do here though and I pray that they backpedal this ASAP.
My heart would like to see it go to RE4R or Mario Wonder but my brain knows it'll either be TOTK or Baldur's Gate 3 (leaning more towards BG3 in that regard).
You know I was kind of hoping MW3 wouldn't do well so that the series could finally take a good long look in the mirror and address some of it's core problems but I guess it just isn't meant to be 🙃
Elon's used the phrase 'looking into this' so often on Twitter that it's practically become a meme at this point so I'm highly skeptical he's actually going to do anything about this myself. Still, it'd be nice for him to prove me wrong for once (and I can't emphasise 'for once' enough here).
BLOODY FINALLY I'm not even that interested in GTA 6 myself (still have yet to play the series as a whole) but my god the amount of times I saw 'GTA 6 LEAKED!?!?!?!?!?!?' on social media made me want to tear my hair out I swear XD
Personal gripes aside, it's gonna be great to finally see it in proper action and I'm highly curious as to how 'next-gen' it'll truly be when it's been in development for as long as it has 😃
also: 'early December' eh? I think I might have a hunch as to when it'll be shown off....
Considering how the PS5 now has a dedicated app for watching Sony Pictures films, this article might technically become reality in a year or two's time XD
This feels insane to even think about honestly: SONY is creating a live-action ZELDA movie in collaboration with NINTENDO.I can't believe those are words I just said.
I'm not going to get too excited until we see the cast/first trailer (calling it now: Tom Holland and Zendaya are 100% going to be Link and Zelda) but I'm cautiously optimistic towards this right now.
'....they'll no longer be able to post shares to Twitter (also known as X, but no one in their right mind actually calls it that)'
OH IT FEELS SO GOOD TO FINALLY SEE A NEWS ARTICLE SAY THIS 😭
As for the removal itself, it most likely won't be a massive deal (as many people didn't even know it was a thing to begin with) but it does make me intrigued as to whether Nintendo and Microsoft will follow suit (I've heard the API integration fees took a massive hike in the last couple months).
As for my gaming this weekend, I've started my very first horror game just in time for Halloween: the original Dead Space on PS3. Currently completed the first two chapters and, while I've nearly had a full-on heart attack at numerous points during it, it's been very good so far (once I got a handle on the controls anyway XD) and I'm very excited to keep going with it. Hoping to get it finished either before or on Halloween Night itself!
Started up Devil May Cry 2 for the first time yesterday on PS3 and I don't think I've ever been quite as depressed playing a game in my entire life: the music, atmosphere and character designs are all so good....and then the gameplay has just been completely and utterly butchered by comparison with terrible camera angles, a woeful lock-on system and it being practically IMPOSSIBLE to pull off even the slightest combos with the way your moveset works (WTF DID THEY DO TO STINGER 😭).
....that being said, I'll most likely push through it and get it beaten by the end of next week (especially given the entry that comes after this) XD
It may not be exactly what we were hoping for and the irony of a Slim Playstation model revision being more expensive than the original (at least with the digital version) is not lost on me, but adding the option for an detachable disc drive for physical games on the digital edition is an absolute game-changer that pretty much fixes the main issue I have with digital-only consoles (being how laser-focused you are into solely digital media) so overall? Not too bad 👍
Such a bizarre move to add this so long after release but it's definitely welcome nonetheless. Really hoping 60FPS is applied to PS4/Pro myself as I'm heavily considering picking one up in the near future and would love to have RDR1 be one of the first games I get for it!
Didn't this literally just get a beta only a few weeks ago? Feels a bit cruel to cancel it before it even had a chance to come out when it was clearly in a close-to-finished state :/
With the amount of live-service games getting obliterated over the past couple months though, I can't say I'm particularly surprised that this got the axe. With a couple notable exceptions such as Fortnite, the excitement around live-service games seems to be very much dying off as more and more of them focus on trying to get as much money out of people as possible with microtransactions galore rather than providing a consistently fun gameplay experience. A shame to see as stuff like Hyenas did look like they had a very passionate workforce behind them but that's just the way the cookie crumbles I guess.
This came out of absolutely NOWHERE. Absolutely massive shakeup that has me exceptionally curious as to what's going to happen with Sony going forward since, love him or hate him, Jim was undoubtedly the lead man behind a TON of the company's biggest decisions.
that being said, if we start getting more 1st Party cartoony games like Sony used to put out during the PS2 era as a result of him leaving then good riddance XD
THEY DID DANTE JUSTICE OH MY GOD
I only heard of the rumoured existence of a Devil May Cry anime fairly recently, though I've been itching to see it in action ever since and the brief tease we got in this trailer has me incredibly excited to see the full thing when it eventually comes out. Looking incredibly SSSTYLISH!
@UltimateOtaku91 It mainly has limited voice acting throughout (i.e. your 'OBJECTION!'s and 'HOLD IT!'s), but Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice also have some anime cutscenes with full voice acting
I am so f***ing excited for January guys
Only 4 months to go until I can finally play some of my most anticipated games of all time, absolutely ecstatic and cannot wait to experience them for the first time 🥲
This is a great lineup for the month (and definitely something PS+ needed after the last few strings of bad decisions). I actually just picked up 13 Sentinels for Switch yesterday myself due to a recent digital sale so I'll definitely be giving that one a go at some point (I've seen tons of people call it one of the best VN's ever made so I'm very excited to eventually dive into it!) 😁
Well this is certainly a pleasant surprise! I definitely didn't have a Stray movie on the 2023 bingo sheet myself and I'm even more surprised they're going down the animated route. Will definitely be giving it a watch when it comes out as I do have quite the soft spot for Stray (even as a dog person XD).

🎵 INTO THE CLOUDS AGAIN 🎵
🎵 I FEEL THE BLOOD IN MY VEINS 🎵
🎵 TIIIIIIME IS RUNNING FREEEEEE 🎵
🎵 I FEEL LIKE LETTING GO 🎵
🎵 JUST LIKE THE DANGAN 🎵
I never played the original Dragon's Dogma myself but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't extremely interested in giving it a go in prep for DD2's release. I've heard nothing but good things about it so we'll see how it eventually fares I suppose!
you know I would say 'I can fix her' but Capcom already beat me to it
Personally not too excited for A.K.I myself (got nothing against her, I just find her general character archetype a bit dull personally) but she looks great and seems to be going down really well in the community. Great addition and I can't wait to see what they do with Ed in the next character drop!
Possibly the funniest accessibility feature in gaming history; it's both absolutely fantastic in order to have as many people as possible be able to enjoy MK1 while also being absolutely hilarious to listen to outside of the context D
While I can excuse a straight no-frills port for the Switch release as Red Dead's never been on a Nintendo console before (plus the portability would require it to be less intensive power-wise anyways), having it be the exact same game from 13 years ago for PS4 is majorly disappointing. It's definitely nice to have the game be more accessible given it's legendary status in the gaming space, but I'll just stick to getting the old GOTY Edition for my PS3 instead if I want to try out RDR1 🤷
The original GOTY Edition of Red Dead on PS3 is still pretty cheap so I'm probably going to grab that instead if I want to experience it for the first time (seriously, $50 for a port?) but it's nice to see it on modern platforms at last given it's recent scarcity.
I'm stunned it took them until Season 3 to add Johnny to Strive to be honest; dude's been a pretty big stalwart of every game's roster since his debut prior to Strive. Definitely a case of better late than never though cause god he looks so f***ing COOL 🤩 seeing his eyes under the shades is definitely going to take some getting used to though, not gonna lie XD
While I don't think ithe new 3D style comes close to the absolute majesty that was that old spritework (which, to be fair, what could), it still looks like a fantastic adaptation that reminds me a lot of KOFXV which, in my opinion, is one of the best looking fighting games on the market
Considering how I'm on a bit of a PS3 buying spree as of late anyway, I may as well try and add these ones to my collection (even if I've never been too into Transformers) if the owners are going to be this potentially incompetent about keeping their code in one piece.

Other than that then, this looks like a pretty alright selection, albeit one without too much that wows me besides Ace Attorney.

Re: The New Devil May Cry Anime Is Real, Coming Soon to Netflix
THEY DID DANTE JUSTICE OH MY GOD

I only heard of the rumoured existence of a Devil May Cry anime fairly recently, though I've been itching to see it in action ever since and the brief tease we got in this trailer has me incredibly excited to see the full thing when it eventually comes out. Looking incredibly SSSTYLISH!
Re: Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy Enters the Courtroom in January 2024
@UltimateOtaku91 It mainly has limited voice acting throughout (i.e. your 'OBJECTION!'s and 'HOLD IT!'s), but Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice also have some anime cutscenes with full voice acting
Re: Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy Enters the Courtroom in January 2024
I am so f***ing excited for January guys

Only 4 months to go until I can finally play some of my most anticipated games of all time, absolutely ecstatic and cannot wait to experience them for the first time 🥲
Re: Borderlands Studio Gearbox May Be Sold by Embracer Group, It's Claimed
Embracer really bought a whole lot of gaming companies despite clearly having absolutely zero idea how to use them huh
Re: Rumour: Six PS Plus Extra Games Leaked Ahead of September Announcement
This is a great lineup for the month (and definitely something PS+ needed after the last few strings of bad decisions). I actually just picked up 13 Sentinels for Switch yesterday myself due to a recent digital sale so I'll definitely be giving that one a go at some point (I've seen tons of people call it one of the best VN's ever made so I'm very excited to eventually dive into it!) 😁
Re: Indie Hit Stray to Be Adapted into an Animated Movie
Well this is certainly a pleasant surprise! I definitely didn't have a Stray movie on the 2023 bingo sheet myself and I'm even more surprised they're going down the animated route. Will definitely be giving it a watch when it comes out as I do have quite the soft spot for Stray (even as a dog person XD).

I never played the original Dragon's Dogma myself but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't extremely interested in giving it a go in prep for DD2's release. I've heard nothing but good things about it so we'll see how it eventually fares I suppose!
Re: Street Fighter 6's New PS5, PS4 Fighter Is a Weirdo in the Best Possible Way
you know I would say 'I can fix her' but Capcom already beat me to it
Personally not too excited for A.K.I myself (got nothing against her, I just find her general character archetype a bit dull personally) but she looks great and seems to be going down really well in the community. Great addition and I can't wait to see what they do with Ed in the next character drop!
Re: Mortal Kombat 1 PS5 Has Gruesomely Descriptive Audio Fatalities
Possibly the funniest accessibility feature in gaming history; it's both absolutely fantastic in order to have as many people as possible be able to enjoy MK1 while also being absolutely hilarious to listen to outside of the context D
Re: Red Dead Redemption PS4 Announcement Gets Slaughtered by Fans
While I can excuse a straight no-frills port for the Switch release as Red Dead's never been on a Nintendo console before (plus the portability would require it to be less intensive power-wise anyways), having it be the exact same game from 13 years ago for PS4 is majorly disappointing. It's definitely nice to have the game be more accessible given it's legendary status in the gaming space, but I'll just stick to getting the old GOTY Edition for my PS3 instead if I want to try out RDR1 🤷
Re: Red Dead Redemption Out on PS4 This Month, Not a Remaster
The original GOTY Edition of Red Dead on PS3 is still pretty cheap so I'm probably going to grab that instead if I want to experience it for the first time (seriously, $50 for a port?) but it's nice to see it on modern platforms at last given it's recent scarcity.
Re: Guilty Gear Strive Season 3 Kicks Off This Month with Johnny and a Game-Changing Update
I'm stunned it took them until Season 3 to add Johnny to Strive to be honest; dude's been a pretty big stalwart of every game's roster since his debut prior to Strive. Definitely a case of better late than never though cause god he looks so f***ing COOL 🤩

seeing his eyes under the shades is definitely going to take some getting used to though, not gonna lie XD
Re: Here's Your First Real Look at the Return of Fatal Fury
While I don't think ithe new 3D style comes close to the absolute majesty that was that old spritework (which, to be fair, what could), it still looks like a fantastic adaptation that reminds me a lot of KOFXV which, in my opinion, is one of the best looking fighting games on the market
also that shading on the supers is HEAVENLY
Re: Evo 2023 Schedule: All Start Times and Where to Watch
Still can't believe UMvC3 managed to snag a spot as one of the main titles this time round, cannot wait to give it a watch!
also it'd be the best time to announce MvC4 but you didn't hear that from me
Re: Don't Worry, Activision Totally Has the Source Code for Those Awesome PS3 Transformers Games
Considering how I'm on a bit of a PS3 buying spree as of late anyway, I may as well try and add these ones to my collection (even if I've never been too into Transformers) if the owners are going to be this potentially incompetent about keeping their code in one piece.
Re: Glorbo Comes to Destiny 2, Pantsing Another AI Website Along the Way
Glorbo is love, Glorbo is life, all hail Glorbo.
