Mortal Kombat:
This is a pretty stacked lineup of characters all around though and I genuinely don't think you could've gone with a better trio of guest characters for the first season than the ones shown off here, excellent stuff all around.
Feels nice to finally contribute to one of these articles I gotta say XD
As for my gaming this weekend, I'll be continuing on with my New Game +/Hard Difficulty run of the original Devil May Cry through the HD Collection on PS3; reached the halfway point of my playthrough and have been having a pretty fun time all around aside from some very annoying secret missions here and there (I never want to see a rock spider again for as long as I live) and I'm excited to keep going later on!
Sounds pretty much like most other live-service online shooters to me then: very fun gameplay-wise though light on meaningful content out the starting gate. I do hope Capcom does actually commit to Exoprimal unlike it's previous online endeavours as, like you've said, there's definitely immense amounts of potential for iterating on the base they've laid here.
Plus it gets us closer to the possibility an Ace Attorney crossover where robots that look like Wright and Edgeworth kill hordes of dinos with the power of finger points and quite frankly that sounds too amazing to pass up XD
I don't see myself picking up a PS5 for the foreseeable future, but if I do? You better believe this is the one I'm going with holy hell it looks so GOOD 🤩
I've been out of the FIFA/EA Sports loop for a very long time, but Women Players weren't available in Ultimate Team until now? That's quite surprising to be honest 🤔
Well I'll be damned: the madlads actually did it.
Memes aside, I'm unironically pretty excited for this as someone who never got to experience the original Gex games. I'm fully aware that they were intentionally made to age as poorly as possible in terms of the dialogue and such, but I enjoy myself a good bit of cheesiness in my games (I wouldn't be as big of a Capcom fanboy if I didn't XD) so I'll definitely be giving this a look!
With a name like that, I imagine they'll be going in-depth on Venom and/or what changes the symbiote being on Spider-Man will bring to the gameplay. Very excited!
It always struck me as bizarre that they released the fighting game spinoff of Tsukihime years before the actual source material so this is a wonderful surprise indeed, especially as someone who can't get enough of the adventure/visual novel genres (my Game of the Year is Ghost Trick for crying out loud!).
For as much as I'm not a fan of Overwatch 'the game', I've always been a massive fan Overwatch 'the universe' so I'll gladly be giving this a watch myself. I
Ghost Trick is the only game where an extremely above-average score will still get me riled up to oblivion due to it not being a perfect one XD
This has easily been my most anticipated release ever since it was announced about 4 and a half months ago and to finally have it basically in the palm of my hands is enough to almost make me cry. Hope to god it sells well; we need more games like GT in the world.
Very happy to see him get the role of Kiryu: Yea is a very good voice actor (being particularly well-known for his roles in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) and, while I'll personally stick to JP Kiryu as that's the voice I more associate with him, I think he'll do a fine job in both LaD Gaiden and Infinite Wealth 👍
Also, as a small aside: something I see a lot when Youtubers like YongYea or even ProZD get voice acting roles in video games is that a lot of people cry foul, saying how 'having Youtubers be the voices of these characters completely de-legitimises voice acting as a job!'....while not realising that these people were usually VA's first and Youtubers second. Criticism of their performances is fine, but denouncing someone's ability on the sole fact that they're an influencer is a bit harsh imo.
It feels like it's more likely to see a game NOT leak a week prior to launch these days than it is to see a spoiler-free run up to release.
As someone who's been done exceptionally dirty in the past when it comes to leaks/spoilers for yet-to-be released games (Splatoon and Pokemon are instant examples for me), I know the pain stuff like this can cause all too well so allow me to share a tip I've used for avoiding stuff like this: search up every single other one of your interests except the thing you're trying to avoid spoilers for. It'll tune your recommendations to a point so that you'll hopefully not see any thumbnails showcasing spoilers (e.g. I've been avoiding spoilers for a certain upcoming game by searching exclusively Kirby and Devil May Cry videos as of late).
It's fitting this is a (pseudo) remake of FFVII because I feel like I just went back in time to the 90's upon seeing that it'll be two discs.
Looking great though. Not going to play it for a long, LONG while myself since I haven't played either the original FFVII or Remake Pt. 1 but I'm definitely interested.
Also it seems like they're going to be killing Yuffie instead of Aerith this time round; poor thing
Being serious though, it was pretty alright. Sonic and Final Fantasy were very cool and there were some pretty funny moments laced throughout from Nicolas Cage's appearance to the bait of Doordash. It still suffered from a bunch of the usual Keighley-made presentation problems like an overabundance of a particular genre/theme (shooters+space) and a whole lot of stationary talking, but overall? Not bad Geoff, not bad 👍
I'd say stuff like RE4R DLC, a first look at Rashid in SF6 and perhaps even a new next-gen Monster Hunter would be fair enough assumptions for an event like this, though I'm going to show my biases completely and beg on my hands and knees for a new Ace Attorney game myself XD
I'm very biased towards Capcom myself (I've made that abundantly clear with my presence here XD) but even pushing that aside, they were definitely the winners here. Everything they showed, from the most relatively mundane of more SF6 footage to the full-blown gameplay reveal fro Dragon's Dogma 2, they fired on all cylinders last night and, like the last State of Play, were easily what carried the entire show imo.
As for the worst then, I'd probably have to go with the lack of PS Studios. Sure, the tone-deafness of stuff like Fairgame$ and Foamstars is cringey as all sin, but at least it's bad in a funny way. The lack of pretty much anything 1st Party in the PLAYSTATION Showcase was a massive letdown for me personally. Hope they've got something substantial in the pipelines because confidence this did not inspire.
I've been following this since the moment it was announced and it's somehow looking even better now than it did back then, I am literally shaking with excitement for this one, absolutely cannot wait for it to come out!
Also, fun fact: the main producer/art director for this is James Turner, better known for his work as an art director/creature designer for Pokemon!
Visually stunning and the new abilities look insanely cool, though the emphasis on cutscenes in this showing specifically is a tad concerning. Most likely won't be an issue when the game releases though so yeah: Spidey 2's looking RAD B)
Funnily enough, this was the announcement of the show for me. I've been wanting a way to readily play these games for ages on modern consoles and this looks to be exactly what I've been looking for, absolutely ecstatic! Only little worry at the moment is that it seems to be PS5 exclusive right now (seems a bit odd to make a collection like this and not also release on PS4, no?).
Kept you waiting, huh? It's the thing everyone saw coming but by god it looks cool. Very excited for this (though I'm not gonna lie: that new collection is infinitely more interesting to me XD).
If this was a State of Play I think I would've been able to forgive it a bit more. But as a PS Showcase? ....yeah this one wasn't great. Definitely stuff I liked (Plucky Squire, Sword in the Sea, MGS3 Remake, Spidey 2) but there wasn't really much we didn't know about beforehand, even some of the really cool stuff like Dragon's Dogma 2, and a lot of it just DRAGGED (WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THAT GRAN TURISMO AD).
I'm probably not in too much of a position to speak on this given how much of a Nintendo fanboy I am, but this feels like PS3-era levels of arrogance to me.
Like, don't get me wrong: they're doing VERY well, both financially AND critically. But saying Nintendo is behind when they've essentially outsold them in the charts for the past half-decade?
Pretty much everything I've heard about this game has been in relation to development hell (something that seems to be a worrying trend with Ubisoft games lately) so this is probably for the best. It gives me time to potentially experience the series this is hailing from beforehand so I'm not gonna complain too much myself.
@Sam_ATLUS Far Cry's been plodding along relatively consistently for the past few years in addition to what you've mentioned. In terms of other series though? Yeah, not too much there 😬
The Sly Cooper results are insanely depressing, people have ZERO faith 🤣😭
As I've said previously, I've not really got much expectations for this presentation myself (would rather let myself be pleasantly surprised by what appears ) but I would like to see something with Uncharted given that I'm thinking about starting the series for the first time over the summer (I think it's unlikely given that TLOU....exists, BUT LET ME HAVE THIS).
also obligatory Bloodborne port/remaster mention (it's gonna happen this time I swear)
PS Showcases are always a great night in for me so I'll gladly be tuning in! (especially when this is my first one as a part of the Push Square community)!
Don't have any particular thing I desperately want to see from this myself, though it'd be cool if those Konami rumours surrounding Metal Gear and Castlevania being shown in a broadcast like this end up being true
Geez, @ShogunRok you are putting in some mad work if you're doing each of these individually XD
I'm pretty intrigued by these remasters as someone who's never played any of them before (or rather an FF game period) so time will tell whether I only go for the ones I'm interested in or all of them at once with that bundle. Nice to see the ports stack up well though!
Unquestionably one of the most pivotal 'game creation' games of all-time; a shame to see support ending but, considering the legacy they've left behind, I'm excited to see what Media Molecule has cooking up next!
So you're telling me these two will have movies made by the same company?
Can't say I'm not intrigued though: the original live-action SF movies are campy as all hell but still pretty enjoyable watches (M. Bison ESPECIALLY) so, with the recent trend of video game movies actually being respectful to the source material, I think this has a fair shot at actually being decent.
