Imagine the excitement now if Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was delayed and announced yesterday with a 4K, 60fps version. My hype meter would change from a 4 to a 10.
Picked up Dragon Age: The Veilguard on sale two weeks ago and will continue to play through that. The characters and writing are underwhelming but the gameplay has been a lot of fun so far.
No reason to get upset about this though. Failures are critical for breeding success. Losses are healthy market signals to firms informing what customers want, and just as important, what they don't want. Tastes change. It takes time to adjust. Businesses will fail. This results in overall economic growth in the long run.
@Oram77 It probably wouldn't have bothered me if I played them when released (before ER) but it grew tiresome quickly for me considering how often I was dying at times.
I played Elden Ring first, loved it, and then played DS3 and Bloodborne and found both inferior in many respects (respawn points were particularly tedious and annoying....felt like 10% of the game was walking back to the place I died. Elden Ring was a huge improvement in this regards). I get the love but agree with some comments above about way less mass appeal outside the enthusiastic fan base.
It was my first too and still remains the best game after several years of catching up on top tier titles. I also went back and tried Sekiro (too hard) and Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne that I found inferior to Elden Ring primarily from the extremely annoying respawn points when you die (felt like 10% of gameplay was walking back to the area where I died).
I can't think of a 3+ hours awards show that is better. Definitely not the Oscars. Trailers instead of tedious commercials makes it superior to anything else with this long format.
I got back into gaming last year and relied on a mix of gaming awards (including all nominations) to see what was notable and picked up Elden Ring, Zelda, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, SpderMan, Jedi Survivor, & RD2. Not too shabby!
Never forget losses are just as essential as profits in a free-market since market efficiency stems from its capacity to reward success and penalize failure, creating incentives for improvement and innovation (the famous economist Joseph Schumpeter referred to this profit and LOSS process as "creative destruction"). That is my positive spin.
I've lost all interest in FPS's because or 3rd person Souls-like games because I don't find running and shooting fun anymore and melee in FPS's feels so limited. However, fatigue is starting to occur for these games and I'm curious what the next breakthrough will be to really rejuvenate the genre.

Re: Baldur's Gate 3 Didn't Get Big DLC Because It's 'Boring' to Make
"It's boring" as a reason not to make millions is a good place to be as a company.
Re: Nintendo Is Losing Its Identity, Says Ex-PlayStation Boss
They should have waited to release Tears of the Kingdom for Switch 2 in 4K, 60FPS. Everyone would be super excited.

Please no more Fortnite inspired games from FromSoft.

Re: Shuhei Yoshida on the Switch 2 Direct: 'Underwhelming Until FromSoftware Showed Up'
Underwhelming until FromSoft, decent, and then underwhelming again learning game was multi-player.
Re: Bloodborne, Elden Ring Dev Won't Be Releasing Its Next Big Game on PS5
Holy multi-player buzzkill.
Re: Poll: PS5 Fans, Are You Sold on the Nintendo Switch 2?
Duskbloods multiplayer only? Damn, that sucks.
Re: Poll: What Are Your Thoughts on Bloodborne, 10 Years Later?
@Ralizah Same. I'm sure it was amazing a decade ago but it felt really dated after having played it for the first time after Elden Ring.
Re: George R. R. Martin Teases Potential Elden Ring Movie, Probably Won't Be That Involved
Animated series maybe, movie no.
Re: Random: Bloodborne Fans Cope with State of Play No-Show

Re: Horizon's MMO Appears to Have Been Cancelled
So many cynical comments attributing bad motives. When markets correct, job loss is inevitable.

Re: Monster Hunter Wilds Sings in Twin 9-Minute Gameplay Trailers
Haven't played these game before. The combat looks a bit laborious and drags on too long. Is taking down these Monsters more fun that it looks?
Re: Suicide Squad Dev Rocksteady Suffers More Layoffs as PS5 Game Hits PS Plus
@LikelySatan WB gets the message and competitors do as well. Job loss/churn is critical and important in flourishing markets.
Re: Suicide Squad Dev Rocksteady Suffers More Layoffs
Losses are just as instructive as profits so a good lesson for the industry as whole and hopefully a better future with games we want to play.

Elden Ring
Ghost of Yotei
GTA 6

Really surprised if Astro doesn't win.

Re: The Game Awards Will Confirm 2024 Nominees on Monday
Oh, ok. So not an issue with the actual winners that seem pretty solid to me IMO.

"The awards are literally the least interesting thing about the show - or better: completely worthless."
Why?
