Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Seemingly Claims Second Biggest Launch in Series History

DonJorginho

Isn’t it funny how the grifters against this game have moved the goalposts CONSTANTLY since launch?

First it was the game won’t review well, it did.

Then it was the game won’t match others in the series for player counts, it did.

Then they said fine but it won’t surpass the peak of the series player count wise! Then it did!

And now we find out the game is the second most successful launch in the franchise history only behind Valhalla that dropped in a perfect storm, with COVID, people at home, holiday sales and a new console launch.

So now they’re trying to tie this game to VEILGUARD???

Re: At a Tumultuous Time, Assassin's Creed Shadows Is Doing the Business for Ubisoft

DonJorginho

Aside from having an in game item store with pay to win items (that yes I know are optional but it still is an awful practise I hate),

Ubisoft has delivered without doubt the best AC Game and even the best Ubisoft game since Black Flag, the delays really did help it, after over 10 hours I’m loving the game to such an insane degree.

I think people often forget when they clamour for Ubisoft to fall, that there are so many people there working for Ubi that are so damn passionate about the games they make, it’s just that they’ve been stifled by a horrible corporate outfit at the top for so long when it comes to mandates and obsessions with chasing trends.

However AC Shadows can be the beginning of a new era for Ubi, whether it will be or not, nobody can really say for sure, but I can say that I’ll never wish for the closure of any studio, and I think anyone who does has never worked a day in their lives or lacks knowledge/experience of the real world.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Now Surpasses 2 Million Players in Two Days

DonJorginho

@NintenGuy

Is the second highest selling game right now on steam, only a £8 viral indie game is beating it

Is also the most played AC game on steam, beating odyssey at over 64k players, and imagine how many more PC players are Ubi Connect subs or cheap keys.

People can keep moving the goalposts, but early reading, the game is doing well, will it be enough to save the company? Who knows, but it’s a good start.

Re: Poll: What Was Your PS5 Game of the Month for February 2025?

DonJorginho

@DennisReynolds it’s better on Consoles for sure but still pretty damn rough, one scroll through any console subreddit or discussion thread on ResetERA you’ll see plenty unhappy, it is showing issues even on Pro.

Not to forget how they also completely broke textures for every system with the day one patch 😭

AAA development is certainly entertaining at times, makes me appreciate Warhorse even more.

@wildcat_kickz yeah PS5 Pro seems to be the most solid place to play it right now, and with the PC side mileage may vary is the truth, some streamers with 5080s are having issues and some with 4060s are doing just fine. Really is a lottery.

I’m glad those who can look past the bugs and performance issues are enjoying it though, MH games are always a fun time even if they’re not my favourite cup of tea.

Re: Poll: What Was Your PS5 Game of the Month for February 2025?

DonJorginho

@wildcat_kickz I mean it’s all over every forum, being covered by Digital Foundry and other outlets, and I’ve had multiple friends refund the game on both PC and PS due to how bad it looks/runs.

Every bad launch has people who say “it works fine for me” but mileage may vary is the term to use here, it may not even be the case of devices not causing issues but people being less likely to spot said issues as they’re not tech savvy, I used to be the same back in the day; I never noticed the awful framerates of PS3 till I went back to it years after.

Hopefully its fixed within a few patches but the fact the game still looks pretty damn bad universally even on 5090s, and runs poorly across all platforms, is a pretty indicative sign it hasn’t been a smooth launch.

And even performance aside, even the most hardcore of MH fans are admitting the story is awful, handholdy, filled with mediocre performances, poor pacing, and multiple walking segments that are hindering the experience as a whole

Contrast to KCD2 which launched near perfectly, with an epic story not seen since RDR2, with immersion and ambition never seen in open world games since the dawn of their conception, I’ll always put that ingenuity above a poor launch, but I’ll still be picking MHW on sale down the line as the bugs will be ironed out in due time

Re: Sony's Pricey PS5 Pro Is Now Being Outpaced by PS4 Pro Launch Aligned in the US

DonJorginho

Two things can be right, the £700 price tag without a disc drive and a vertical stand is a joke.

But also people saying there’s “barely a difference” are frankly wrong, and bringing up the PS4 Pro is highly disingenuous, it was barely a leap above the OG PS4 and that was seen with how it always paled in comparison to the Xbox One X, it was simply a way to utilise 4K displays, and that reflected in its modest price bump from the base unit.

The PS5 Pro is a sizable upgrade from the base PS5 and you can see that with how certain games look and run on Pro with enhanced graphics over the base counterpart (Callisto Protocol, Dragons Dogma 2, Baldurs Gate 3 and KCD2 come to mind)

The Pro is a fantastic system and I don’t regret my purchase one bit, but I will admit that I would have a far different opinion if I wasn’t lucky enough to bag a disc drive on launch.

The PS5 Pro is one of the first Sony consoles to seemingly be sold for a pretty big profit margin compared to prior consoles, so the sales falling off won’t cause any alarm, and despite people complaining about its price, it is still without doubt the cheapest way to play this kind of power on the market, even notable PC YT channels have said there’s a point in people who are saying screw the latest RTX cards, I’ll just get a PS5 Pro and use that for the rest of the gen.

Overall it’s a mixed bag, if you don’t care about fps and visuals then stick with the base, or if you don’t have a good enough display to utilise the pro, don’t get it. But anyone who does care about that probably has bought the pro already; which is why sales are slowly dipping, those who wanted it came and went.

Another article that’s really a whole lot of nothing once you look at the details, but it’s done its job in getting comments going, so it’s a win for journalism.

Re: Reaction: The PS5 Discourse Around State of Plays Is Becoming Draining

DonJorginho

I feel like I’m a bit old fashioned, but I hate seeing games too close to release, I miss the days of long build up, breaking down trailers for weeks with the community and nailing down releases years down the line as something exciting to look to.

That kinda grandeur is gone from current PS, and for sure there’s positives to that, but for my own personal taste, current Sony is just lacking that special sauce that made the last generation so damn iconic.
