@Damage99 I agree about Tactics Ogre, but this looks a little better. We’ll have to see what the final game looks like. Also, I’m really glad they’re including a classic mode.

Man, if I had that kind of cash I would finally get a PS5.

I’m still rockin a PS4 Slim. Playing Horizon Forbidden West on my 1080p TV and it looks amazing.

I've already put a few hundred hours in and played two games to year 4, but I think I'm ready for another playthrough.

@Victor_Meldrew I think that's one of the big problems with console gaming right now – the changes from PS4 to PS5, and then PS5 to PS5 Pro, are all just incremental graphical improvements. Selling new generations of hardware is just going to get harder and harder.

Snowrunner is one of my fav games ever, so yeah, looking forward to this.

Good month, but I let my sub lapse after the price hike.

For me, it was Bloodborne, the Hitman trilogy, Dishonored 2, and Snowrunner.

I’m letting my Essential sub lapse after 6 years. The price increase is too much for me. I’d rather spend that money on games.

I don’t have a PS5, but I’ve been wanting this feature since the first time I turned on my PS4. I guess I need to upgrade to PS5 if I want this next-gen technology.

Video games are the only medium where people look at a masterpiece like FF6 and say “That game is so good it should be remade!” Why do we need a remake?

We need a new Twisted Metal game, not whatever the hell this is.

I’m never going to upgrade from Essential. I don’t have a lot of time to game, so when I do, I want to play the games I want to play. Also, I’d rather spend my money on physical games that I can keep for years and won’t disappear suddenly.

I hope everyone can temper their expectations. Square Enix has a very uneven track record, and this may not be the 10/10 we are hoping it will be. In fact, it might suck.

Great article, and my own situation definitely supports this view. I don't play enough games for subscriptions to be worth it. I have time to play 1-2 games a month, and I want to choose those games, not have them chosen for me. The only reason I subscribe to PS Plus Essential is so I can play multiplayer in Elden Ring. If not for that, I would cancel it.

@DrGonzo All it says is that people still enjoy classic games and want to be able to play them on the console that’s sitting under their TV right now.

@GorosBat The question is whether the PS1 port will be available in the West.

The iOS/Android version is actually a near-perfect HD port of the game. I’m a huge fan of FFT and I hope they stick closely to that version.

@BeerIsAwesome This is no excuse though. A good translator can turn awkward dialogue in one language into smooth, natural dialogue in another. If the dialogue in Forspoken was translated, then it was translated badly.

Seems they haven’t improved on the awful voice acting in the first game. Luckily you can turn it off.

Otherwise looks great.

Glad to have all the confusing Hitman 3 DLC bundled together. Whenever that goes on sale, I can get it all at once.

It’s definitely a classic, but I’ll be skipping this version because of the awful upscaling filter they used on the original pixel graphics. To me, it looks way worse than the original.

Maybe this is a generational thing. I’ve been gaming since the early 80’s. While I can appreciate the smoothness of 60 fps, it would never be a dealbreaker for me. That said, more graphical options are always better.

I think about buying Superhot every time it’s on sale, so I’m very glad to get it for free. And I’ve wanted to try Hot Wheels. So I’m happy.

Have you seen the iOS/Android port of FFT: WotL? It looks amazing. They did a tasteful job updating some of the graphics while keeping all the original sprites. It proves that Square Enix is capable of doing these rereleases well. But this one’s a huge step back.

This rationale would make sense if they had retained the original pixel art, but they haven’t. They’ve taken the stunning original graphics and run them through an AI upscaling filter, so now it looks worse than the original. Very bad choice.

I’m totally baffled by all the commenters who seem to wish that every website gave games the same review score. What’s the point of having multiple gaming websites then?

I don’t care about trophies at all. If I played through a 100 hour game, and at the end it said “press X to collect your platinum trophy,” I wouldn’t bother pressing X.

One of my favourite games of the last generation. Such brilliant level design and engaging gameplay.

I have zero interest in these games. At this point my only reason for subscribing to PS+ is to get help with Elden Ring bosses.

I expect the same thing they did for PS1 Classics on PS3 & Vita: screen size adjustments, a basic visual filter option, and nothing else. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they just carried over PS1 Classics with the exact same emulation. Basically, I expect them to invest the minimum amount of time and money possible. Sony has shown that they don’t care about their back catalog.

Elden Ring. I’m 37 hours in, and still feel like I’m just getting started. I’ve only taken on one of the main bosses. Mostly still exploring the map and levelling up.

In most cases, I prefer accurate emulations of old games on new consoles. Most of the great old games don’t need remakes, they just need to be made available on current hardware.

Played it on Switch. Speaking as a Harvest Moon fan, unfortunately it’s not great. The characters are bland and there are some tedious gameplay elements. But the graphics are nice and it’s still fun if you like farming sims.
