Re: Crimson Desert Dev to Patch PS5 RPG's 'Uncomfortable' Controls

D6rkLordS6t6n

@Pat_trick Perhaps he is blowing it out proportion? However, I purposefully didn't buy this game for a variety of reasons. Among them was the control scheme. It isn't the only reason I haven't bought the game, but it absolutely contributes to me not buying it now. Point being that the controls will affect their bottom line if enough people are like me and @Max_the_German. I'm still going to wait to see how they fix this. As one example, it makes no sense to change the action for jumping from cross to square when every other action game on the market uses (and has for decades used) cross. Plus, omitting the option to remap controls in the first place is always puzzling to me. I'm not in the dev world, but, seriously, how hard can it be to include that?

Re: Opinion: Sony's Disgraceful Bluepoint Closure Should Concern Every PS Studios Fan

D6rkLordS6t6n

@twitchtvpat When did anyone say that a game shouldn't be profitable? When did looking out for your employees involve buying a profitable studio and then closing it in less than five years when publishing cycles take longer than that? The reality is neither you nor I know what happened here, but it stands to reason that this was a misstep regardless.

The future of gaming still lies with indie devs who are untethered to heavy-handed investor interests, upon which many major studios, including Sony first party studios, have become dependent.

I'm surprised that this is even an issue that needs to be articulated here.

Plus, crunch is still happening even though it may be happening less frequently.

Re: Game of the Year: #1 - Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

D6rkLordS6t6n

E33 is an extremely rich game narratively and visually. The acting is to notch, and the score is moving. The level design fell very flat, and combat isn't engaging or innovative in the turn-based world.

I'm definitely open to being corrected on any of those sweeping statements. Overall, it's a good game in a year filled with good games. It's not my GOTY, but maybe I'm missing something that others are seeing?

Re: Starfield PS5 Announcement Imminent as Bethesda Shows Big Changes Behind-the-Scenes

D6rkLordS6t6n

@GeeEssEff @GeeEssEff If you're frustrated by having to choose he/him, she/her, they/them, imagine how difficult it must be for the person going through a world that treats you poorly because of circumstances outside of your control--e.g. race, gender, (dis)ability, sexuality, physical appearance, social status, etc. A little empathy can go a long way for people who feel represented in video games. Any discomfort over a brief selection of pronouns and a few lines of dialogue lasting a few minutes over the course of tens or hundreds of hours in game really doesn't compare to being treated poorly on the daily at work, at school, at home, and in public.

I recognize that this must be difficult to read coming from The Dark Lord Himself. People think that I tend to rule hell and take pleasure in eternal torment. That's really just a job to pay the bills. Once you get to know me, I'm not such a bad Demonic Overlord. Point is, it's okay for others to be different, and it's okay for them to be represented in a video game too. The worst that comes from it is a little empathy born from a fictionalized environment.

Re: Ubisoft Is All In on Generative AI, Says It's as Big a Leap in Tech as the 'Shift to 3D'

D6rkLordS6t6n

@LeeBB_Art Their greed is a major problem, and someone else getting rich, joining them, and persuading them the error of their ways won't work. Greed is too powerful for that. If we could just join them, then why are major reforms in history and government the result of uprisings? It's because eventually the gatekeepers anger enough of the majority whose necks are under the heels of their boots.

Re: Ubisoft Is All In on Generative AI, Says It's as Big a Leap in Tech as the 'Shift to 3D'

D6rkLordS6t6n

I'm very much against making starving artists starve even more. I'm also very much against the rich getting richer. I can't see a future where both of these don't occur as a result of AI. Hopefully there can exist some kind middle ground where AI enhances developers ability to deliver quality games without putting them out of work. I went to an AI pitch for business execs, and it was pitched solely in terms of increasing profit by eliminating jobs. I'm not optimistic that AI will help gamers or developers.

Re: ARC Raiders Adds Duo Matchmaking, Reduces Cosmetic Prices After Player Backlash

D6rkLordS6t6n

@BusyOlf A 2 of 5 game? The sound design, graphics, animations, and physics are so much better than that. The devs are listening to community concerns re pricing, and new content releases tomorrow. Plus, its cost is very reasonable.

As someone else stated, I'm a solo player. Most solo players are cool. Sure, you have players taking cheap shots. Just make a lot of noise when that happens so other players know. I LOVE taking out those dirty players from the session.

Anyway, 2 out of 5? It's so much better! I can understand not liking the game, but come on...

Re: ARC Raiders (PS5) - A Triumph in Multiplayer Immersion

D6rkLordS6t6n

Gotta say that the server slam turned me off. Since the game was $40 (USD), I just went for it anyway. I am surprised! I play solo and just can't win PvP because I suck. After figuring out the "Don't shoot" emote, players are generally cool, which is shocking! I'm having fun as a solo player and do not regret spending the money. It helps that you keep XP and collect scrap from the rooster even when you can't extract. This gameplay loop makes it very enjoyable. I'm impressed.

Re: EA's Game Development Is Very Quickly Becoming an AI-Driven Hellscape, Report Claims

D6rkLordS6t6n

@BAMozzy That is a measured perspective of it rather than simply saying, "EA sucks!" BTW, EA sucks!

More seriously. Is there a tipping point for you in which a game loses artistry by having AI generate settings such as forests or filling cities with NPCs? I am just thinking at some point AI is unable to employ a human touch that we may notice. I do think it is legit to combine human and AI effort but also think this trend we are seeing of companies fully replacing humans with AI will fall flat eventually and degrade the experience.

Speaking only for myself, I will not support companies that advertise they are doing this. This is similar to my personal stance of not supporting EA any longer due to the new ownership. I am not making a political statement but am saying that I vote with my wallet.

Re: Poll: Will You Be Buying Halo: Campaign Evolved on PS5?

D6rkLordS6t6n

I played it when it first came out. Great game at the time, and the remake looks good visually. If you haven't played it, it's a good time. If you just love the series, understandable. Otherwise, I don't understand the appeal or like the series in general. That said, I bet those playing it will love it. It was a groundbreaking FPS and deserves all the attention it gets regardless of my own feelings about it. Have fun!!!

Re: Battlefield 2042 (PS5) - Maybe One for the Future

D6rkLordS6t6n

Great review. Thank you for addressing the pros and cons of this game while avoiding praising or bashing it based solely on your opinion. I couldn't agree more with this review. Level 49 already.

I would add that the balance of vehicular versus infantry combat feels balanced. Soldiers are little bullet spongy, and the balance between assault rifles and SMGs is questionable. Tanks seem too strong when blasted repeatedly with missiles from helos, which is frustrating because AA missiles feel spot on as a deterrent and when being shot down.

Re: Far Cry 6 (PS5) - The Best Game in the Series, Sort Of

D6rkLordS6t6n

Nice review. Thank you! A few extra thoughts.

Not everyone loses with the new ammo system, which engages the player (or me, at least) to be thoughtful about my loadouts. Plus, there is often a workbench nearby just in case you want to change ammo type on a particular gun because you are not forward thinking enough to have versatility among your equipped arsenal. I am not defending Ubisoft's decision to do this, but saying everyone loses is a bit strong.

You now automatically loot enemies and animals, which removes my own major gripe about the Far Cry series. The previous looting animations (not to mention cutting plants!) just added too much wasted time to the game for people like me who want to search the fresh remains of your recent chaos.

Otherwise, screen tearing...yeah, it's still there but is noticeably improved compared to previous games. 60 FPS (most of the time) is AMAZING! The HUD inventory system is more streamlined that FC5. The ability to mix and match different armor is fun but (tip of the hat to the review) is far too fussy. The lack of FOV induces a little nausea for me when in corridors.
