Starfield PS5 Announcement Imminent as Bethesda Shows Big Changes Behind-the-Scenes 1

It looks like Starfield’s long rumoured PS5 port will finally be announced in 2026, as speculation suggests Bethesda recently held some kind of event for content creators to outline upcoming expansions and improvements.

The game, as many of you will know, was announced for Sony’s system eons ago. But when Microsoft bought its publisher, the PlayStation version was promptly cancelled.

There had been rumours that the Japanese giant had been sniffing around the title and had explored the possibility of timed exclusivity, but any prospect of that was promptly snuffed out by its Redmond rival’s deep pockets.

Starfield, ultimately, didn’t live up to expectations – and in the wake of floundering hardware sales, Xbox is now porting the vast majority of its first-party franchises to the PS5, including Halo and Gears of War.

And, has been speculated for a while now, it sounds like Starfield will be next.

One persistent rumour has revolved around the idea that Bethesda plans to release the port alongside a major update for the game, which it’s supposedly been showing behind closed doors this week.

There’s some inconsistency over the scale of this update – some have described it as a Cyberpunk 2077-style moment for the sci-fi adventure, while others have said to temper expectations – but it sounds like improvements will be made to the game’s many loading screens and structure.

Ultimately, if Bethesda is showing this content behind-the-scenes already, we should expect some kind of announcement in January at the latest.

Xbox has already confirmed a Developer Direct for the new year, so we wouldn’t be surprised if it announced any upcoming Starfield news there.
