I really don't understand what's going on with Ubisoft.
I mean, Ghost of Yotei will only come out in 2025, so it's not a direct competition. The market is big enough for two great Samurai games, don't you think ?
Everything I saw from this particular Assassin's Creed has been looking great, to my eyes.
Sure, like everyone, I directly noticed the "inclusive push", but after all... why not ? The fact that there was or there was not an accurate black samurai, at one period of time, seems to me irrelevant.
It's a fiction, a video-game fiction, so we can choose to see that as based on a myth. Some kind of folkore. Or an historical fact, I don't know.
But the game seems fine, no ?
(But I did like Avatar and Outlaws, so maybe I'm biased, I don't know).
I can only agree that from a distant point of view, for someone who does not really know what this is all about, this game REALLY seems like a direct Pokémon rip-off, capitalizing in all its advertising campaign on this confusion for the mass market ("Hey... is it... Is it Pokémon ? WOW WITH GUNS NOW !!!!")
So I think, in this case, Nintendo may have, well... a case.
I can only imagine that the plan is to optimize these games (Horizon 1 and Days Gone) for the PS5 PRO release.
I did not play Days Gone at the time, cause it seemed to me redundant with the Last of Us series (just too much zombies for me) but now, I can definitely try to check this out.
I also know this game is pretty loved by a lot of gamers, so... yeah.
@TheFakulty I have to confess I feel exactly like you : my understanding is what the show tried to sell us was "QUALITY MODE, BUT IN 60 FPS".
But even back then my ear just ticked when I heard Cerny saying something like "almost".
And here we are : this is not exactly what they told us. The base resolution seems to be LOWER than the quality mode on PS5.
Lower.
But it is upscaled with some kind of AI magic... et voilà ! A crisp and nice picture at 60 fps, see ?
I guess it's cool. But it's not what I understood when they tried to sell it to me.
I'm really, really torn apart with all this story. I want it. I want to want it. But it's expensive. Like, really expensive. And Sony does not seem to really try to sell it to me.
I bought the disc drive, anyway. Cause I can't take the one from my PS5 Fat (which I'm gonna trade, if I upgrade).
@Bez87 "The crazy thing if anyone noticed was Mark cerny was confident on hitting 4k 60, the wording of it was way off."
I noticed he said "ALMOST" at one moment, I don't remember which one. But I did hear him say something like that. Like "ALMOST as sharp as graphical settings, but with 60 fps".
Also, was I mistaken to see Howgward's Legacy in...30 FPS ? With better ray tracing, yeah, but in 30 fps. But maybe it was my stream, I don't know.
An unreal experience I can totally understand, a commitment beyond reason and mental health that I can only applause, as I will never be capable of such thing (but I did remind me of some of those FFXI sessions I had, back then).
I just did a complete replay of Astro Bot Rescue Mission on PSVR1 (which I dusted out for the occasion). I was going for a level or two, and then ended up to replay the entire game.
What a masterpiece it was. It is the very reason why I'll never separate myself from that good old PSVR1.
And as sad I am to know the new one won't be a PSVR2 game, I can understand the need for Team Asobi to expand their audience to the maximum number of players possible.
I cannot wait to play their new game !
(Oh, and for those who desperately want a new VR platformer, "Max Mustard" is releasing on PSVR2 around the same month, and it looks like a perfect Astro-inspired-but-not-cloned platformer game !)
Who named those guys, seriously ? How can they be ranked so high in their company without knowing anything to the very subject they're supposed to master ?
Additional note : this clip is indeed extremely impressive. I cannot imagine the difficulty to act, to project yourself in a character, with that kind of technical stuff (dots on your face, cameras everywhere, plastic toys as weapons...) all around you.
It must takes some extra dedication and imagination... What an impressive performance.
It seems to be a good game, but with a bad marketing strategy / angle.
Maybe it should have been given away with PS+, day one, to attract new players, I don't know.
The game seems to be so hated right now that I almost want to play it, you know, to be the kind one, in a weird way. The one that brings comfort.
But if I did it for Suicide Squad - and Anthem before that - (which I loved to death, I played them solo entirely and it was just FUN), this particular kind of game (multiplayer only) is simply not for me...
I just finished the abysmal fraud that is Bayonetta 3, a game that seriously made me furious, and... well, crying (for the wrong reasons). I'll delete it from my head-canon and keep playing Bayonetta 1 and 2, which are masterpieces in their respectives genres, in my opinion.
So, in order to keep battling monsters with a stylized lady, I started Stellar Blade. And while it's obvious how much it takes from Nier Automata (even the music is constantly trying to duplicate this particular ambiance) - but without Taro's genius and Platinum's perfect execution - I have to say... This game is pretty good. Even better.
It's honest.
It is naive, yeah, but in a good way, and it's quite sincere in its proposition.
One thing for sure is that I'll never buy a PSVR3, if one ever sees the light of day, sometime far way in a distant future.
The shame is : VR technology is awesome, in itself. This is the future of gaming, and of everything. Maybe it takes an Apple, to really make people understand that appeal.
From now on, I'm on META team. I really considered selling my PSVR2 to get a META QUEST 3. But I don't like selling hardware : I always end regretting it.
But as soon as META announce their QUEST 4, I click on the "preorder" button.
I love my PSVR2, but not as much as I loved my PSVR1. And that's why this kind of news does not surprise me at all.
I really don't understand Sony's strategy on this one. So far, VR is a niche market. That, we know. So, make it an appealing product for that niche, for example by :
allowing 3D movies on it, with a 3D bluray update (yes, an old and dead format, but an important one for that niche), and a real movie store, "à la Apple". (god damn it, I thought Sony was also a cinema company... so what the hell ?)
giving the headset others cool applications than just gaming, something metaverse-like, this kind of thing.
reducing the price, to get a more crowded installed-base.
promoting the damn thing, maybe not on TV or cinemas (not enough money, I get it) but maybe on social media, I don't know...
Everything was done, from the beginning and by Sony itself, to make it fail. And that's a shame. A real shame.
Cause the headset, in itself, is quite good. Even awesome, on many games.
@carlos82 "Fun fact, Nintendo developed 4 games for it's Virtual Boy, so far Sony has made one for PSVR2"
That's so true and so terrifying. Well said, mate ! XD
I consider the second one of my personal games of the year : it is simply brilliant. Story, cast, gameplay, everything was extraordinary. You just have to accept to play it in Quality mode (30 fps), as all the issues I've read about were concerning the Performance mode. My guess is it has been patched, since, anyway.
For years I have this game installed on my hard drive. Since day one. I have waited and waited. Saw the game being updated again, and again, and again. And I've waited. Not fired the game even once. Never did.
Now... the wait is finally over. I'm gonna play this beast of a game.
How unfortunate that we lost, these days, the use of the "complete experience" available on day one, on the actual disc. I think that maybe Square Enix is among the last companies to ship (some of) their games in a really finished state (say what you want about FFXVI, this game was polished as hell. FFVII Remake also).
As far as I loved Clive (I did not like the combat system, but that's another topic), and off course Cloud back in the days... I must take a quick stand for Noctis.
I'll stay to my dying breath a huge advocate of FFXV, just because how this game managed to surprise me. Before playing the game, I really didn't like the character ("Geez, what are those guys who try so hard to look cool, all the time ?").
But I've learned, during my playtime, to look beyond the attitude. I've come to understand the theatric of this character, how gentle and carrying he was underneath. Just a frightened boy, abandoned by everyone except these three exceptional brothers of his, who know FROM THE START what he must do, what he's compelled to do, and exactly how his journey will end.
XV has the best ending of all, in my opinion. I love this series as a all, and I love many of it's entries, which I replay often, and often. But the story of Noctis is the only one which actually made me cry. Like, real tears and all.
That campfire scene, man. Those last lines. It just gets me everytime.
Off course I preordered it, the second it was announced. It is one of my most beloved games, no less.
I have cheriched this Psp UMD for years, now.
It's not that it is a perfect game : cause it's not. There are curious developper's choices, that were made here. The "Activating Combat Mode" voice is one of them, for example. The curious mission system, very portable-thinking (but not in a good way), is another. Those kind of things.
But man... what a character. What a story ! What a hero. What an experience !
This game made me cry. Like, really cry. It was the first (and only) time that I witnessed something like this : I don't want to spoil anything to anybody, so let's just say that... It's in the gameplay. In the mechanics of the game. The way that strange gameplay system litterally transcended its own story, in the end... I've never seen that anywhere else. Neither before, nor after. Very, very "Kojima-esque" in spirit. It was just awesome.
I just can't wait to experience this fantastic story once again.
I managed to preorder the headset alone, without Horizon, cause I prefer to buy my games on physical.
But what I had not realized at the time was that the game was discounted, in the bundle. A 20 bucks discount, to be precise, when I was so sure that 50 would be the price of the game alone (while in fact it will be... 70 ! o_O' )
Hell, I'm even beginning to think that maybe those PSVR2 games will be digitals only. No sign of preorder on any merchant website (for the games, I mean)
I tried to get into that franchise. Into that game.
I really tried.
I bought the first one (the all DLC edition package) and did all the story content I could, just to catch up.
Then I started the second one.
Only to find out that half of the content had been removed by Bungie, for obscur reasons. Problem is : this content was story-related, and a necessary one for beginners in this universe, like myself.
To sum up : this vault thing has kept me out of this game. Which is a shame, cause the few hours I played it (twenty or something) were really good.
But I don't want to watch youtube videos of deleted content to understand the overall story of a game.
@get2sammyb Hey Sammy, just a quick note to inform you guys - in case you did not know - that Sony is sending emails to select people with a link to preorder the device.
The link, however, will not be activated until the 15th.
So... I'm guessing that not everyone will be able to preorder it ?
The thing with this kind of opened ending is that you can interpret whatever suits you. Speaking for myself, I like to imagine her back to their city, with everyone else, back to Dina and to their kid.
But maybe she just ran off in the woods, all alone.
I won't argue with anyone who dislikes the game, or the character, but I just want to share my own experience, as I totally changed my mind about Part II.
When I played it for the first time, at launch, I totally hated it. It was a game that infuriated me like no other game, nor piece or art, has. I was (and still am) so fan of the first episode that I rejected everything they tried with this one. I was hallucinating on what I understood being the message of the game ("Violence is wrong") and on the ways to make me understand this big lesson in life (forcing me to kill everyone, even when I didn't want to). I finally sold the game to my local store, keeping the first one and rejected PART II of my head-canon.
And now. Years later. I bought, as the stupid fanboy as I am, PART I Remake. First game I played on my brand new PS5 (yeah!). And I could'nt help myself and stop there, so I bought a new copy of PART II, and played them back to back.
And... I don't know if it's due to the fact that this time, I knew exactly what to expect, but I freaking LOVED it.
I changed my mind about it. The critics I could formulate at the time are still there, off course. But... I don't know. I guess I understood better the grand despair that ravages every single one of these great characters.
Replaying Part I made me better understand Part II, in a way. There was no moral, even in the first one. The world is doomed, and Joel himself, even before the end, is doing permanently things that can be morally debated.
I still understand people who despise Part II, I respect their opinions. But as far as I'm concerned, I have grown to be equally fan of this episode.
@Kienda I could not agree more with everything you just wrote.
I love my brand new PS5 (finally managed to got one two months ago), and I'm enjoying it for all these delightfull exclusives Sony titles, but the reason that drove me first to Xbox, for this gen, was the way they handled retrogaming.
I was not even so much interested in their gamepass subscription ; for me, it was all bout their backward compatibility efforts.
To be able to insert your old Xbox 360 disc, or even Xbox (as in : the very first xbox console) and to be able to play this game on your brand new system, for no extra fee at all, and most of the time with improved visuals and everything ? It was too good to be true.
And yet, it was. It was true.
I use my KOTOR I and II Xbox discs very often. My Panzer Dragoon Orta disc, too. The Witcher 2. The FFXIII Trilogy (to play it in 4K AND in 60 FPS for the last two of them). And so, so much more...
And the same goes for Red Dead Redemption. Still having it on disc. Works like a charm.
As much as I love Playstation and its incredible solo games, Sony could really inspire itself from this aspect of its direct competitor.
@Flaming_Kaiser Exactly. If nobody buys from these sc...ags, the all system looses its point.
I did the same, long ago, for my NES Mini. The prices online were just crazy for this little thing (more than 500 bucks, sometimes !), everybody was loosing their minds !
I just waited, patiently, months and months, and managed to find one at the regular price, on a regular store.
I did it too for my PS5, and will again for the PSVR 2.
I'm gonna take this Day One. I trully am. And without giving A CENT to any f....g scalper.
I'm refreshing the official website. F5, 24h by day. Everyday. I'm on it. I want it.
Oh, and I really hope there's gonna be a little system update, after its release, to watch 3D movies on it. It was one of the most beloved features of the first PSVR for many, many fans.
And Avatar 2 can make 3D cool again, in people's mind, I'm sure of it. (I just saw the remaster of the first one on a big, big screen, and it was awesome)
It just blew my mind when I discovered on my brand new PS5 that most of my beloved games "next-gen updates" were hidden behind some kind of a paywall.
FVII ? Free upgrade, yeah, but a real mess to find (the store REALLY WANTED me to pay 80 bucks for the PS5 version) and then... 20 bucks for the brand new DLC that was the main appeal of the all thing. But hey, fair enough, I guess.
Death Stranding. 10 bucks to update to the PS5 version. But hey, it's the "director's cut" with brand new features. So yeah, fair enough, again. But still. Another paid update. But ok.
Uncharted 4. 10 bucks to update to the PS5 version. But hey, it's the Legacy of Thieves collection, wich includes the DLC wich I didn't even possesed. So it's ok, all in all. Fair enough.
So yeah, taken individually, I can everytime understand the reason behind those little extra bucks they ask. It's never just a simple patch (some games did get their free patchs, though : God of War, Last of Us 2... and Horizon, for exemple), but still... You cannot retain the feeling that everytime, you have to pay for something.
Last of Us Part 1 ? I understood the debate, and I'm a part of the problem, here, cause I bought it despite the fact that owning the original PS3 release AND the remaster. But I sold the remaster for buying the remake, just to clear my conscience a little.
And now... an Horizon PS5 version ? Again, if it's accessible for 10 bucks, to those who possess the PS4 version, why not.
In a perfect world, we would get it for free.
But I'm starting to feel that the Jim Ryan era is far from a perfect world.

So I think, in this case, Nintendo may have, well... a case.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered PS5 Is Official, Out 31st October with $10 PS4 to PS5 Upgrade
It wasn't needed - that does not change. Horizons PS4 is playing like a charm on my PS5.
BUT... That being said...
That price just made all these concerns wash away.
Off course I'm gonna upgrade ! :

Glad to see Sony back in the game.

I didn't play it, I don't play it, and I don't intend to play it.
But still : this is outrageous.
I mean : really. They should not have the right to do something like that.
You want to stop adding new content to the VR mode, fine. But you don't take it away by an update ! You just can't do that !
This is Destiny vaulting all over again.
Re: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Huge PS5 Pro Enhancements Are a 'Vast Improvement'

I need to see Cyberpunk.

I got to confess : the idea crossed my mind as well.
But I don't intend to buy that god damn 800€ console ! No, I don't !
(But I thought about getting the drive now, to not add it in two months to that extraordinary bill...)
(But I didn't, cause I won't buy it, no I won't !)

I really did.
But not at that price.

NINE HUNDRED EUROS WITH A DISC DRIVE !!

I can play in 30 fps, no problem.
Oh, and not a single word on PSVR2 ? Cause, I mean... that extra power should also be used for VR, no ?
Don't you think, Sony ?
Re: Astro Bot (PS5) - One of the Greatest PlayStation Platformers of All Time
@NeonMullet I feel you, friend.
I was sunder the impression that Astro's Playroom especially blew their minds to people who never played the actual VR game.
And same here, maybe. Because, in Rescue Mission, you've got genius ideas everywhere AND one of the best uses of VR I've ever played.
Now it's just genius ideas. No VR. But it's still genius.
Anyway, I bought it, to support the team, and I'm eager to play it.
But I will also buy Max Mustard. Because Astro-clone or not, this one is in VR
Re: Astro Bot (PS5) - One of the Greatest PlayStation Platformers of All Time
I bought it day one, off course.
As a matter of fact, I sold Elden Ring (which was a horrible experience for me - but I'm glad some people are enjoying it) to buy this little gem.
Just replayed Astro Bot Rescue Mission on PSVR, two weeks ago. Team Asobi just know to make a great game. Those guys are so talented !
Re: Soapbox: I Spent 3 Days with the Concord Trophy Hunters Who Dedicated Their Lives to Unlocking the PS5, PC Platinum

So off course, I bought the new one, VR or not ^^

I'm really tempted to quickly get a physical copy right now.
You know, just for collector's sake.
And in twenty years, I'll sell it on Ebay and will be able to buy a new house.
Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Design Seemingly Leaked
This is a really curious situation : usually, I'm a big fan of those "mid-gen" refreshs.
I bought an Xbox One X and never regretted it (what an upgrade that was !).
I bought the PS4 Pro without even thinking about it. Just sold my old PS4 and got my new Pro. It was the natural move, for me.
But now, I don't know. This is the first time I don't feel the need to upgrade. They'll really have to sell me this one.
And the "no disc drive, but maybe you can attache an optional one" is not a good start for me.

My guess is it has been patched, since, anyway.
Re: CDPR Recommends a Fresh Save for the Best Cyberpunk 2077 2.0, Phantom Liberty Experience
Re: Poll: Who's the Best Final Fantasy Protagonist?
Re: Poll: Did You Buy Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion?
Re: PSVR2 Exclusive Horizon Call of the Mountain Grabs Pre-Order Trailer
I managed to preorder the headset alone, without Horizon, cause I prefer to buy my games on physical.
But what I had not realized at the time was that the game was discounted, in the bundle. A 20 bucks discount, to be precise, when I was so sure that 50 would be the price of the game alone (while in fact it will be... 70 ! o_O' )
Hell, I'm even beginning to think that maybe those PSVR2 games will be digitals only. No sign of preorder on any merchant website (for the games, I mean)
Damn ! XD
Re: Final Fantasy 16 Is Exclusive to PS5 for Six Months, Sony Confirms
I bought a PS5 for this game alone.
Ok, and also for FFVII part 2.
And for the PSVR2.
Point is : the exclusivity of FFXVI did count in the balance.
I was tired to wait for FFVII on Xbox, and felt that FFXVI was about to go the same way.
Re: Bungie Is Concerned PS5 Players are Unwittingly Playing the PS4 Version of Destiny 2
@bindiana Yeah, I don't even know how is this possible, legally speaking.
I know this is an online game, but still : you BUY (not rent, but BUY) some content and it disapears... without any refound ?
That's just crazy. How can they escape with this ?
Re: Bungie Is Concerned PS5 Players are Unwittingly Playing the PS4 Version of Destiny 2
This vault thing is just insane.
Re: Poll: Will You Pay the PSVR2 Launch Price?
@get2sammyb Hey Sammy, just a quick note to inform you guys - in case you did not know - that Sony is sending emails to select people with a link to preorder the device.
The link, however, will not be activated until the 15th.
So... I'm guessing that not everyone will be able to preorder it ?
Re: Poll: Will You Pay the PSVR2 Launch Price?
It's a very expansive price, but I'm turning 40 years old like a week before its release, so hell yeah ! Let's go VR, baby !
Re: Naughty Dog to Partner with PSS Visual Arts for Unannounced AAA Title
Part II being a PS4 game, there better be a free upgrade to this current-gen version. No "being rebuilt from the ground up" argument, this time.
Ah, who am I kidding ? At least, the 10 dollars tax, as usual.
Re: Voice Actress Laura Bailey Keen to Reprise Role in Potential Sequel to The Last of Us: Part II
@riceNpea I totally understand the feeling.
The thing with this kind of opened ending is that you can interpret whatever suits you. Speaking for myself, I like to imagine her back to their city, with everyone else, back to Dina and to their kid.
But maybe she just ran off in the woods, all alone.
Re: Voice Actress Laura Bailey Keen to Reprise Role in Potential Sequel to The Last of Us: Part II
Re: Red Dead Redemption No Longer Playable on PS5, PS4 in a Troubling Sign of the Times
Re: CDPR Just Announced Two New Witcher Games
One of them has to be the remake of the first game.
It never saw the day of light on console, and now that the franchise is so well regarded...
Re: Sony Producing Two Million PSVR2 Headsets by March 2023
@Flaming_Kaiser Exactly. If nobody buys from these sc...ags, the all system looses its point.
I did the same, long ago, for my NES Mini. The prices online were just crazy for this little thing (more than 500 bucks, sometimes !), everybody was loosing their minds !
I just waited, patiently, months and months, and managed to find one at the regular price, on a regular store.
I did it too for my PS5, and will again for the PSVR 2.
Re: Sony Producing Two Million PSVR2 Headsets by March 2023
I'm gonna take this Day One. I trully am. And without giving A CENT to any f....g scalper.
I'm refreshing the official website. F5, 24h by day. Everyday. I'm on it. I want it.
Oh, and I really hope there's gonna be a little system update, after its release, to watch 3D movies on it. It was one of the most beloved features of the first PSVR for many, many fans.
And Avatar 2 can make 3D cool again, in people's mind, I'm sure of it. (I just saw the remaster of the first one on a big, big screen, and it was awesome)
Re: Talking Point: We Need to Discuss This Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 Remaster
