First console launch where I won't be there day one. I know it's an old song we have all heard, but I really feel that this gen has barely started. And I know this is not factually true, that there are great games around there, but... I don't know, it's just a feeling.
Also, I'm so disappointed in the PS5 Pro. I really regret having upgraded. And I say that having loved my PS4 Pro time, back then. But in this case ? I feel cheated.
Not saying I won't buy a PS6 someday. Just not on day one. I'm done with that. Now I'm waiting, and I'm looking from far away.
I love this game so much, even if I'm not particularly good at it.
One update that I would find really, really cool would be the possibility to use our avatars in Vs mode, with a friend and a second controller. Not just online in the Battle Hub.
That would be hilarious.
Meanwhile, great update and character ! Time to dive back, yes, I agree !
I find it actually pretty interesting, what Xbox is doing here. I was so sure they were done in the console world, that there would not be any new Xbox console in the future. Because, well... they've lost the war.
But the shift they're talking about since months ?
They're actually doing it.
And I'm amazed, I've got to admit. Because if it is what I suspect it is, it's a clever move. A very clever move.
The new Rog Ally is like a Trojan Horse : if they follow their own strategy, there won't be any new Xbox console, in the future. As in : a proprietary system, within a closed box of plastic, that can only run games bought from its specific store.
Instead, they will release some kind of PC, DISGUISED as a traditional console system. And with every store on it. So that means Steam, and some Playstation games.
So they're actually doing it. They're forcing Sony to go multiplayer, like them, but not in making them porting Playstation games to their own system, but by CHANGING their system itself.
They're going the full PC road, pretending that "this is an Xbox".
And I've got to admit that I rarely turn on the machine. Not enough time to play, so when I play, I play something more casual on the TV.
But I remember that Horizon and RE Village (which I discovered for the very first time on this version, in VR) were truly awesome experiences.
I do possess GT7 but every time I try to play it in VR, I get sick. Guess my VR legs are kinda lost, and it's easy to understand why : I just don't play VR enough these times. So it's a circle.
Maybe that's the problem, with VR : it demands dedication. You've got to put some kind of effort into it, even if it's just a mental one.
I think it's a great headset (the Resident Evil games are really impressive, and some other games even more, like the Red Matter ones) but the lack of compatibility with the first one, due to a big change in the technology involved, was a big mistake in my humble opinion.
We should be able to play Astrobot and Wipeout with even better graphics on PSVR2. We should be able to play Skyrim, Star Wars Squadrons, Blood and Truth. You need to retain those people who have built their own library.
Overall, I don't think VR is necessarily dead - it's still a kid's dream, and an impressive technology - but I think the future really lies on autonomous headsets, which have to be affordable and easy to use.
I know my next VR set will be something like that. I'll never buy a PSVR3, if any (but there won't be one, we all know it by now).
Very happy for Xbox players, I really liked its story and its general vibe (but not its game play thought).
But my main question is : where is the PS5 PRO patch humanity deserves ? I want to replay this adventure with a proper 60 fps and a pristine image quality...
I discovered this principle on Xbox, a few years ago, when I tried to install my brand new copy of HALO the Masterchief Collection.
I saw a few megabits being installed from the disc, and AND UPDATE of one hundred gigabits, or even more.
At the time, I was furious. And then, I learned my share. I just bit the bullet.
Sometimes, there were a few surprises : Tekken 8, for example, on Xbox, was sold on TWO DISCS and contains the actual game (well, obviously, without the updates that came further). But most of the time, you do have to download something.
Ubisoft does it all the time, too. Avatar, Assassin's Creed Shadows... You name it.
So that's maybe why I was not utterly shocked by the game-key cards debacle for Switch 2. And as the article pointed out quite rightly : at least, it is CLEARLY INDICATED on the box. And that's not the case with all these fake blurays.
Physical is dying, we all know that. But this is not a classy move, gentlemen. Not a classy move.
@LifeGirl What if they decided to change everything, and make the character in question not expiring but just being really hurt ? As in a wheelchair or something ?
@Diowine Oh, personally I liked this first season : I'm too much of a fan of Pedro Pascal, and Bella Ramsay won me over in like two seconds. But that's the thing : I wanted more time with them.
As beautiful as it was as a side-story, the famous episode 3 (was it the 3 ? I'm not so sure, now) took too much time away from the main characters. I would not change it - it was a bold move which kept the show interesting for the fans who already knew by heart the story - but the season should have had maybe two more episodes in it's run. Just my two cents.
I can't help but feel having been let down by the first season, by its structure. I was eager to share this powerful story with my wife, but the way they told the story, she never connected with the characters. We just don't spend enough time with Joel and Ellie in the first season. We barely know them by the end.
And when Joel did what he did, it really was not as powerful as in the game.
So, I don't know how people who did not play the game will react to this season 2. I don't know if it will be as impactful.
Also, I've got another problem : I'm trying hard to convince my brother to play the game BEFORE watching the season 2, but I've got a feeling that he won't. And I fear that "this moment" will just be spoiled for all of those "none-LOU2-players"...
I won't comment on the price, but all I can say is : this is an incredible game. Xbox is giving here to all Playstation players, maybe, its best game ever released.
Past years, a lot of Xbox games have been called "average" or "cool, but..."
There was one single masterpiece, although, that was as beautiful as immensely fun, and it was this game. Yeah, you understood : I'm a big fan.
I honestly don't know what Microsoft is doing right now for its own brand, I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing. All I can say is I'm glad PS players are going to be able to experience this incredible game.
I already have the PSVR2, since the very first day, and in all honesty... I could not advise someone to buy one just now, even at that kind of price.
I'm a big PSVR1 lover, I still have it, plugged and all, and I'm still watching 3D blurays on it (yes !). Still playing awesome games on it (I replayed Astrobot last year, still awesome).
But the PSVR2 is... a strange piece of technology. I have invested in it to bear its original discomfort (the device originally really, really hurt my front-head) but even then... The infamous "sweet spot" that you HAVE to find (and then stay on it), the inability to play any 3D movies (why don't they make a store for that ? Sure, it's a niche market, but as the PSVR2 is)...
I don't know. I LOVED (and still do !) my PSVR1. The 2 ? Not so sure. Village was awesome, yeah. Really, really awesome. GT7... it makes me nauseous, and the overall image quality takes such a hit that I find myself playing more regularly, on my flat screen, than in VR.
The Meta Quest really seems to be the best choice, for now, if you want to explore the awesome world of VR. I'm saying that without having touched one, so, maybe I'm wrong. But everything I read about it just feels right...
@cuttlefishjones Thanks for your sharing your impressions, mate. Can I ask if you play in Fidelity or Performance mode ?
My understanding is that there is still a fidelity mode at 30 fps, but with even more Ray Tracing, and a new performance at 60 with some RT.
And I don't know if the problem they're mentioning concerns "Fidelity" or "Performance" Pro modes...
Ouch, the review seems quite harsh, but, everyone's entitled to its opinion, I guess.
Personally, I bought it to support the studio, to show my appreciation for this kind of beautiful physical edition (the steelbook is gorgeous) AND to threat myself with a good PS5 Pro tech-demo !
@thefourfoldroot1 I know the feeling - I love my PSVR2 as well, but I can assure you that when it took me to plug again my PSVR1 a few months ago, I was in for a threat
I replayed Astrobot entirely and it is still as awesome as the day it launched !
@Shinnok789 I honestly think the PS6 will cost less.
I think that this particular model of PS5 is targeted at the very enthusiastic / hardcore fans of the brand. Like the PSVR2.
It will be really interesting to see the sales, in a couple of months.
Maybe the PS6 will be sold at 600/650 €. Cause it has to attach to a maximum number of players, and very fast. The PS6 won't have the luxury to be... well, a luxury. Which the PS5 Pro is. It is a luxury.
But in the meantime, I can definitely see Sony sell it without the drive, exactly like the 5 Pro.
So, yeah. 650 € without a drive. Almost 800 with one. But maybe the disc drive option will really have become irrelevant, at this point (2028 ? 2027 ?). We'll see.
@sanderson72 Have you seen the Digital Foundry video about it ?
Ok, sure, I guess when we come down to that territory, there's a lot of subjectivity that interferes but... I found this video SO BEAUTIFULL ! The ray-tracing implemented, while keeping the 60 fps, just blew me away... way more than GT7, a game that is supposed to be a selling point.
I guess I'll see it from myself, and with my very own eyes, tomorrow, so... maybe I'm wrong. I don't know. But honestly, this PRO version really, really seems to deliver. The DF guys even say in a podcast that, to their very surprise, it was the most impressive game they've seen on the system.
I'll sure be posting my own impressions soon in the comments, for those who care ^^
FFVII and F1 2024 are the titles that sold the console to me.
They both look extraordinary and I can't wait to play them on the PRO !
(Edit : Oh, and the Monster Hunter beta, too. The way the game looks in performance mode really made me believe that it is designed with the PRO in mind. But I can be wrong.)
@Rich33 Good analysis, I agree with everything you wrote
But Sony has to say something about this, officially, I mean.
My local shop just told me that they may be able to order some more drives starting tomorrow, but that these will be exclusively available to people who bought the PRO ( in their store, off course).
I guess that's a start, if it confirms.
But scalpers have to be stopped, one way or another.
They have to produce more of these drives. They say they're offering a choice to their consumers : well, then, give them the option to buy it ! Produce more drives !
It's impossible to not suspect there's a clear intent, here, to force people to go full digital.
I know that the days of physical media are counted. I know. But as long as I'll have the option, I'll take that one. I'll take the disc, and the box. Even if the game is not entirely on disc, yeah, I know that, too.
And I'll do the same with movies. It's just my choice, the way I like to buy these things.
Personally, I was really lucky to get a drive at my local gameshop, the day I went to preorder the console itself. But I see on reddit all of these poor folks who won't be able to play their collection of games on their new console... because there's no drive available !
Not cool, Sony. Produce more drives, please. Give us a choice. At least for this gen, once more.
PS : oh, and DO NOT BUY FROM SCALPERS.
If no one buy from these guys, they just loose. Do not buy from them. Just wait, check and search. Good luck to you, pals...
And the disc drive is still out of stock in many, many places (or even countries), accelerating, maybe, the phenomenon.
I'll still buy physical games while I still can. I've waited for Alan Wake 2. And I can do it too for Black Myth Wukong (by the way, the physical is finally on its way, says the dev's).
I'll preorder it at my local videogame shop, on October, when I'll be able to. They will surely make an offer to buy back my original PS5 at a great price - it's the only way for me to afford such an amount for a new console.
@get2sammyb I know, it just does not make any sense. I guess it is my collector's side, I don't know.
And it's the same with movies : I buy 4k blurays faster that I'm able to watch them, so, it's a nightmare to organize xD
For example : I just beat Doom 2016.
And I had it since, well... 2016 xD
And after that, I launched Mario Odyssey, cause I wanted something light to enjoy. But sometimes I don't wait that much : I do plan to play Astrobot just after Odyssey.
This is why PS5 PRO will be a good purchase for me : I have yet so much - not so recent - games to discover in their most glorious form !
FFVII Rebirth, for example. Bought the special edition (with a steelbook and an artbook) at launch. Still in its blister.
@Northern_munkey Oh, I wasn't talking about any issues in particular, but just of the fact of being able to play it in Fidelity mode - cause it's a gorgeous game - at 60 fps.
The only thing that's preventing my hand to go play this game right now is the "digital only" thing, for the moment. If I remember correctly, they told at release that a physical edition will come in time. That's what I'm waiting.
Cause I really, really want to play it ! It's Alan Wake 2 all over again, it seems ^^
Very, very surprised that there was no announcement of a PS5PRO patch coming soon.
Cause it really seems that this game can benefit a lot from the new horsepower that is available on the Pro console.

Re: The Crew 2 Will Be Playable for 'Years to Come' with New Fan Demanded Offline Mode
Perfect ! I'm one of the two people on Earth who enjoyed their time with Suicide Squad, so I was glad when they added an offline mode.
Good thing for the players of this Crew 2, also !
And now, the same with Anthem, please. Oh, wait...

Re: Preview: Here's Why Resident Evil Requiem's Tension Is Off the Charts
I think I'll go the third-person way when playing on TV...
And maybe, just maybe... if a PSVR2 option was being confirmed... that would be so great for the first-person mode.
RE7, 8 and are so, so great in VR.

Re: The Next Xbox Is a PC, So What Does That Mean for PS6?
I just want to say how much I laughed when I saw the image that accompanies this article XD
(And yeah, very curious about the next-gen and how Microsoft will try to stay relevant in this game).

Re: PS5 Price Increases Announced by Sony, Immediately Affects UK, Europe, and More
Now that is what I call "timing".
Cause now the Switch 2 can be marketed as "cheaper than a PS5" (it was one of the big arguments against the machine).
How things have changed, with the years. Back then, if you were short on money, you used to wait a few years, to buy your console after a price drop.
Now it's the opposite ! Maybe the Switch 2 itself will see its price increasing for Christmas...
Anyway, like the article said : the only good news is that the PS5PRO with a disc drive is now technically a little cheaper. Just a little.
Re: TV Show Review: The Last of Us (HBO) Season 2 Episode 1 - Structure Changes Keep Things Fresh
@LifeGirl What if they decided to change everything, and make the character in question not expiring but just being really hurt ? As in a wheelchair or something ?

I'm still waiting to see if they manage to do something about image quality on PS5 Pro.
I'll wait a few patches.
Re: Sony to Turn Horizon Zero Dawn into a Movie, Not a TV Show
Good. This needs a big movie budget. From my understanding, one of the most appealing aspects of this franchise is in its visuals.
So let's go the big screen !
Re: The Last of Us Showrunner Isn't Concerned About Bella Ramsey's Ellie Looking Too Young in Season 2
She was so damn excellent in season one. I can't wait to see how she will carry season 2 on her shoulders !

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 571
Exactly like the pic illustrating the article : I plan to finally convince my wife to play It Takes Two !
And then, I hope we can continue with Split Fiction
Re: Poll: Are You Playing Monster Hunter Wilds?
I bought it, installed, played it for a few hours.
Then I put it on hold.
Sure, it's not as disastrous as the beta, but graphically wise, It really lets some room to improve.
So, as always nowadays, my advice would be to wait for a few patches, before starting.

I'm still playing my PSVITA every week, I consider it one of the jewels of my collection.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Enjoys the Series' Biggest Launch in Years
@Skeletor85 I hope ! XD
Joke apart, reading this review really interests me, so...
Where is it ? xD
Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Enjoys the Series' Biggest Launch in Years
That's great and all, but where is the Push Square review, if I can ask ?
Re: Alan Wake 2 Adds PS5 Gyro Aiming in Big Anniversary Update
I swear to you all, every time I see this Max Payne face, my brain just bugs, like a glitch, or something.
And then I remember that the dev' put his own face to model his hero, which is a legendary move, in my opinion.
By the way, can't wait to finally try Alan wake 2, in physical and directly on the Pro !
Re: Like It or Not, This Is Why PS5 Pro Doesn't Have a Disc Drive
And the disc drive is still out of stock in many, many places (or even countries), accelerating, maybe, the phenomenon.
I'll still buy physical games while I still can. I've waited for Alan Wake 2. And I can do it too for Black Myth Wukong (by the way, the physical is finally on its way, says the dev's).
Re: WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers May Be Another PS5 Soulslike, But At Least It Looks Decent
I know it may be not a big thing, but I like the angle, from where the camera is placed.
Not so common, to my knowledge.
And the game seems good, yeah.
Re: Sublime PS5, PC Remake Silent Hill 2 Tops One Million Sales
The game is sold out on physical in many, many stores too.
Amazon still didn't send me my copy, short of stocks, and I had preordered !
It's really great for this game and for this franchise.
Kudos to the Bloober Team !
Re: Silent Hill 2 (PS5) - The Horror Great Remains So in This Excellent Remake
I was reaaaaaaaaaly thinking that this was gonna be a huge disappointment.
Nothing in the trailers managed to sell me this thing.
But this review did ! Now, I'm sold !
Sometimes, it's really good to be wrong...
Re: Bickering Begins Over PS5 Pro's Inability to Sell Out
I'm pleased to hear that, cause I'll only be able to preorder on October 10th, at my local shop.
And I do not want to be told on that day "Sorry, we don't have any stock for you".
So, good.
It seems the scalpers just got rad about the anniversary model, and let the normal one for us regular buyers.
Re: Death Stranding 2 PS5 Will 'Come Out Next Year', Crazy Photo Mode Revealed
I'm not watching this I'm not watching this I'm not watching this I'm not watching this I'm not watching this I'm not watching this I'm not....
Raaaah Kojima-san, please stop playing with my nerves ^^
Re: Fans Appear to Be Coming Around to PS5 Pro
Sony should make a little check to Digital Foundry, because they are the ones who sold me the machine. Not the Mark Cerny show.
Re: Poll: Did You Pre-Order a PS5 Pro?
I'll preorder it at my local videogame shop, on October, when I'll be able to. They will surely make an offer to buy back my original PS5 at a great price - it's the only way for me to afford such an amount for a new console.
Re: Star Wars Outlaws' Rescue Roadmap Provides a Snapshot of Modern PS5 Gaming
It will be my first game to play on the PRO !
Re: Star Wars Outlaws' Rescue Roadmap Provides a Snapshot of Modern PS5 Gaming
I tend to buy the games I want to support on day one, and then, they go straight into the hell of my nightmarish backlog.
Sometimes for years.
Just too many games and not enough time.
So in general, I'm playing fully patched versions. And rightfully so : you do not want to rush into a new game these days...
Re: Black Myth: Wukong Sales Over 20 Million In a Month, Entering GOAT Territory
@Northern_munkey For sure ! I'm already in love with that game !
Re: Black Myth: Wukong Sales Over 20 Million In a Month, Entering GOAT Territory
Re: Black Myth: Wukong Sales Over 20 Million In a Month, Entering GOAT Territory
Very, very surprised that there was no announcement of a PS5PRO patch coming soon.
Cause it really seems that this game can benefit a lot from the new horsepower that is available on the Pro console.
Also, any news on a physical edition ?
Re: PS5 Pro's 30th Anniversary Bundles Are Getting Flipped for $5,000
I HATE those guys, with all my heart, with all my guts, with everything I have.
And I tend to think that we should hate EVEN MORE the people who buy these things at those insane, totally insane prices.
I just hope my local shop will allow me to secure a PRO, in October. Just a regular one.
At the normal price.
Which is already pretty heavy.
I mean... Geez, those guys, I swear...
Re: Horizon Zero Dawn PS4's Price Doubles After PS5 Remaster Announcement
Not a good move, and that's precisely why I'll keep buying my games ON DISCS as long as they'll be available in that format.
The game is still available for 20 €, on physical...
