Does Jason (I block everyone on Twitter who has a different opinion) Schreier write about anything other than studio crunch? If he thinks it's bad at ND he wants to look at Japan and especially China.
Starfield is the ultimate example of Phil Spencer's hubris. He acted all coy in interviews when it came to exclusivity (case by case) and other such BS. But we all know what he really wanted was to outspend the competition, keep all the IPs they bought for themselves, dump them all on Game Pass and change consumer's buying habits forever. And now one Activision purchase later his platform has seen hardware rapidly decline, game pass price increases while the sub base has stagnated and not one of their games had looked like a GOTY contender. It's a wonder how he's still in the job.
When it comes to awards for best "indie" game it should be games that are self published. Because they self financed everything so you can't get more independent than that.
It's not surprising we're getting to the point now where all the people who started up these old studios are looking to retire either because they feel they've done all they can or there's no way further up the corporate ladder.
It was a very "now in development and we're recruiting" trailer so we'll see. If it has good producers and management then yeah I can see it coming out before then.
@HonestHick I'm referring to @oram77 first comment but then you got all judgemental. If you didn't want so called "defenders" come after you then maybe stop judging a game before it's even come out.
Right now Tokon needs a bit more time, quite a lot in the community aren't happy with the gameplay. Auto combos are too good, defensive mechanics are a bit undercooked, tagging doesn't give much reward like the game doesn't know if it wants to be a 4v4 or 1v1.
Though, according to Dusk Golem, what was being worked on at Deviation Games hasn't been turned into something else; it's now died completely as a "full-on cancelled game". So that would imply that Dark Outlaw Games (which is made up of a fair amount of the talent that were at Deviation) isn't making something similar.
I just hope Sony don't skimp on battery because it's been getting out of hand with gaming devices. 2 hours battery for a handheld is unacceptable, at that point your just watching a percentage counting down rather than gaming.
@DennisReynolds I can hazard a guess. GoW = Angrboda is black TLOU = Ellie is gay plus trans character Spider-Man = side quest involving a gay character Ghost of Yotei = Female lead and the actress's politics. Not my opinions of course.
I can understand the comment about lack of new IP but we need to remember what the PS4 era established. Horizon, Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima were completely new IPs so they were always getting sequels. While God of War and Spider-Man were new continuities so pretty much a same situation. I also don't get this "more of the same" or "glorified DLC" argument, all those games were well received so the studios were hardly going to fix what wasn't broken.
I liked Lies of P but I hope their next game (Wishes of D or whatever they call it) the story has more a direct connection to its source martial. There was so much in Lies of P's story that had almost nothing to do with Pinocchio that it might as well have been an original story.
@get2sammyb There was that Climate station earlier this year...not much granted.
I remember Shuhei Yoshida was asked about what happened to PSVR2 and he was pretty coy about it.
It's just pure guesswork but I got the impression that Sony were planning more 1st party support but that all got cancelled early on because live service took greater priority.
I hope it does well but if it badly flops then I hope it leads to Sony completely restructuring Bungie so that become a great studio again because the talent is there.
Sony have been pretty good these last few years at when they say a game is coming in a certain year then they stick to it. So the fact that Intergalactic hasn't had a 2026 attached to it was telling.
Sony's outlook for 2026 so far is: Saros MLB The Show 26 Marathon Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Marvel's Wolverine
Plus there are some that are rumoured or educated guesses like 2D God of War Horizon Online Firesprite's horror... possibly Until Dawn.
@get2sammyb So it would be the first time that CoD loses to an actual competitor that go for the same demographics. As for next year I still have severe doubts about GTA launching next year.
Would this be the first year since CoD 4: Modern Warfare turned the franchise into a juggernaut that it isn't the best selling game of the year? Apart from when Rockstar launched GTA 4 and Red Dead 2 of course.
@j2c Was going to say the categories are better then TGA. Best remaster, expansion, supporting performance, early access game. If it had them it broaden out the awards as well as preventing them for backing themselves into a corner by having games in categories they shouldn't be in.
@RoomWithaMoose I think many still struggle with playing as characters who aren't completely likable since we've been conditioned to play the hero since the arcade days. Now a lot more games have more nuanced stories.
I still reckon one of the reasons why Horizon gets this weird hate is from people's thinly veiled sexism. Horizon is the only really successful AAA IP to come out over the last ten years that's female led. And more importantly Aloy is a character who isn't sexualised for either cheap marketing or to "appeal to the boys" and that rankles with some.
So since The Game Awards started. PlayStation Studios have had a GOTY contender in all but one year. 2013: The Last of Us 2015: Bloodborne 2016: Uncharted 4: A Thief's End 2017: Horizon Zero Dawn 2018: God of War and Marvel's Spider-Man 2019: Death Stranding 2020: The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima 2021: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart 2022: God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West 2023: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 2024: Astro Bot 2025: Death Stranding 2: On The Beach
Shame that Ghost of Yotei was snubbed for GOTY, still DS2 keeps PlayStation Studio's run going.
Also Twisted Metal not been in the best adaptation category is wild.
@Leinad7 That many users, so why hasn't Steam Deck become a Nintendo Switch like mainstream product?
Steam Machine will find it's audience but I can't see any scenario where it's a legitimate competitor to PlayStation.

@Zaczumba Total Warhammer was their game I think.
Felt the reveals was very lacking, especially the last game, Tomb Raider, Control or Divinity would have been more fitting for that position.
