@NEStalgia I agree, and I don't regarding the cost of a PC compared to a console. A PC is definitely more money up front. Especially if you want a 4070ti Super and up...but there are plenty of cards that play at 1440 or 4k just fine at the $300-400 mark.
Playstation is generally $500ish at launch. Peripherals are getting more expensive (and more cheaply made, I may add). And PS Plus is $80/year for the BASE tier. Clearly, given the metrics that Sony just provided shareholders, there are plenty of people getting one of the higher tiers. So over a 5-8 year wait for the next console you just spent an additional $400-640 on that same console.
In this light, the PC is more money up front but still comparable in price over the life of the product. That being said, there is definitely an up side to the simplicity of a plug n play system
@Marquez you're right. Let's not decrease upper management pay, fire 900+ people, and raise the cost of PS Plus and games. Oh, and let's prevent 180 regions from being able to purchase the PC titles...seems like a good balance to me. They should keep up the incredible work...
@ProfessorNiggle @Aladin_Run fair enough. There's something to be said for the convenience of a plug n' play system. There is certainly more tinkering with a PC, but I also am tech driven and like gadgetry. I'm simply pointing out that the cost is similar, but one is more money up front while the other is trickle feed
I find it hilarious how many of you are "na na na na goo"-ing PC players. If any of you Sony cheerleaders weren't able to purchase any of these games you'd lose your ***** lmao.
To be fair, the fact that a PSN account can be made in one of those 180 countries isn't the issue. The issue is that Valve and other launchers DO recognize that they're not in the correct region. That's why they're locked out. That's why people are upset
@ProfessorNiggle @Aladin_Run I mean, there are already rumors about the ps6... what's the difference in buying a $1-2k computer or buying a new console every 5-8 years (with an additional $400-640 for the BASE ps plus price tacked onto that). It's actually more cost effective in the long run to have a decent PC. Plus you get access to mods and free games. Kinda a no brainer
@Netret0120 exactly. That's why I gave up on playstation. Sony is ripping us off. In the next few years I'm sure games will release on both simultaneously
@BHPM sony already has my info, so I'm with you there. I wouldn't care about the PSN if it didn't exclude gamers who could otherwise play the game. Unfortunately, Sony cares less about a bad image than they do money and data
@MisterNintendo I would hardly call stating facts crying, but whatever makes you feel better.
As a side note, I'm suprised that you don't want more people playing the game that you also love. That defies logic, but I guess they aren't you, so to hell with them. Right?
@REALAIS the issue isn't that they can't create a PSN. The issue is that Sony is a third party who uses launchers like Steam who do recognize the region is outside of the PSN network.
@BHPM precisely this. I've chatted with people in discord as recently as this morning who are beside themselves because they don't have access. Personally, I haven't purchased the game because I vote with my wallet. I'm hoping that they turn this decision around so that gamers around the world can play. It's beyond reason that people who have a Steam account can't play because they literally can't make a PSN
@Mikey856 they didn't provide numbers, but I did see somewhere that the PC PSN numbers were "significant". Which waters down the actual metric of knowing how much they're actually making via PS Plus
@NEStalgia I'm willing to put money down that the data is less important than shoehorning PC players into their network so they can eventually charge for their "services". Honestly, I've enjoyed all of their games, but I'm not going to continue to support them until they quit attempting to be overlords. They've been king of the hill within the confines of their own castle, but the big wide world isn't going to put up with all of their BS. They're experiencing a bit of a wake up call here
@TrickyDicky99 their platform is shrinking either way. Still significantly more than xbox, but younger generations are foregoing consoles altogether. Then there are old farts like me who bailed on them because they are ripping us off. I would still support their game studios if they weren't being so anti-consumer
@TrickyDicky99 charging PC players would kill their attempts to join that market. I feel yah though, them raising the price for PS Plus to $80 for the base tier was the final straw for me. Made me leave real quick.
@TrickyDicky99 your original argument was that the PC market wasn't worth Sony's time. Which is why I brought up the player count, which overwhelmingly confirms that it is "worth their time". Sony is looking for growth, so naturally they want to tap into that market. Not to mention younger generations, and old farts like me, who are bailing on consoles.
@TrickyDicky99 it's incredible how everyone in this blog, including yourself, complain about how much PC players complain. Maybe look into a mirror once in a while. I'm not going to argue on cost or quality, but there are significantly more PC players than console.
Edit: as a side note, Horizon FW plays at 150fps with DLSS with all the highest settings on. That's not on a 4090, either. A console couldn't touch that
@TrickyDicky99 I mean, you don't need a super computer unless you want 2,000+ mods on Skyrim. I could easily build a PC for like $600 that can play 99% of thr games out there. Most games cater to console hardware, so you don't need crazy specs to play games...sooooo, yes
@TrickyDicky99 there are roughly 1.8 billion PC players...considerably more than the PS, MS, and Nintendo player bases combined. And with fewer people purchasing consoles it is most certainly "worth their time" to cater to PC players. They need us lol
If I were Valve, I wouldn't want to open the game up for sale unless Sony offered assurances via a written contract. Clearly, Sony is wanting to force their agenda on PC and can't be trusted down the line without a contract
"While it has significantly improved its PS Plus offerings"... I'm not sure this is true. They may have improved some of the content offered, but they still raised their price point. $80 for an annual subscription for the base PSN is flat out insulting. Especially considering that they only offer mediocre-at-best games at that tier. I bought one more online subscription so I can invade/co-op when the Elden Ring DLC drops. I'll continue to buy some of their select games on PC, provided they don't try and charge PC users a PS Plus subscription to play their online games
@truerbluer have you read the comments? There are so many fanboys who are pretty bent out of shape by this decision. I don't think they have the stones to pick a fight with Sony over anti consumer practices. I'm with you, though. The $80/year base PSN and $70 games got me to build my PC pretty fast
@Vault_Mcfly I have an upper end mid PC that I built for under $2k. You could easily build a decent one in the $1k range that would play just about anything. Games may have more capabilities on PC, but they're mostly designed for console hardware so you don't need a super computer to play 99% of the games out there. Not to mention, an $80 annual subscription for the base PSN is exorbitant at best. Honestly, I bet bang for buck the two price points end up being similar
@DonkeyFantasy I'm just pointing out that they aren't the "vocal minority". Sony blinked because it's become more and more evident that consoles are less popular and more people are purchasing PCs. In layman's terms, they need us. More importantly, they need Valve, and forcing them to give out refunds doesn't do much for their business relationship. Selling a game in territories that aren't on the PSN network also wreaks of class action lawsuit. Point being there's plenty of blame to go around and Sony should have been able to predict this PR nightmare
@DonkeyFantasy no to be that guy...but the almighty Google says that that are considerably more PC players than console players. Like, even PS, Xbox and the Big N combined they don't even hold a candle to PC player numbers world wide...
I'm suprised at how many people are salty that PC players "won". This was a pretty transparent move on Sony's end to eventually require a PS Plus membership. The whole reason I built a PC is because I'm tired of being nickel and dimed by consoles. This is a win for all of us because it shows that we do hold sway with these corporations.
Also, while it may have said in the fine print that this would eventually happen, they still made a grievous error. They should not have made the game available for purchase in the territories that wouldn't be eligible when they enacted this. We gamers need to stick together
@Savage_Joe ok, so you plead ignorant to how the console market functions? Don't flame me because you have the mentality of a teenager. I imagine a lot of people are waiting for it to go on sale or pc. Not to mention, i know quite a few people who played the OG who arent a fan of the changes they've made.
Also, the PS2 sold over 100M units, but I don't hear you crying about people not having access to FF7R...get a grip lmao
@Savage_Joe ok, you must be young, because that's how consoles work...not to mention over 50 million PS5 units have been sold. That's hardly backs up your "most the audience doesn't have" argument. Just build a PC like I did, then you don't have to worry about any of this nonsense
@Savage_Joe the PS4 was released in 2013...it doesn't owe you anything. I was upset that I bought a PS5 when I didn't need to. It's one salvation is its backwards compatible. Otherwise, there's only been a handful of genuine PS5 games that doesn't still cater to an out dated system
Yeah, I'm done giving Sony money for their PS products. $80/year for an online subscription and $70 games....Sony got greedy. I built a pc and still intend on getting this game, but I'm not giving another dime to their console market
