It's no secret that the PlayStation 4 doesn't have the greatest selection of driving games ever seen. Arcade racing games especially have vanished from the earth, leaving PS4 owners with little choice when they want to put the pedal to the metal. Having said that, we've still been able to rustle up a list of fast and furious racers that will provide all the speed demon fantasies you could ever want. From mascot kart racers to straight-faced simulations, read on to see which PS4 racing games are our favourites.
A sort of spiritual successor to Rollcage, GRIP is a rough and tumble racing game that will see you tearing across both horizontal and vertical surfaces. Vehicles fitted with enormous tyres will flip and leap from floor to wall to ceiling, and it's as mad as it sounds. Thankfully, there's a certain order to the chaos, and the accessible handling means you'll soon be blasting opponents out of your way in no time. It has its problems, but this is a rare find on PS4 -- a half decent arcade racer.

One of PlayStation 4’s few decent arcade racing games, Trackmania Turbo is chock full of twitchy, high speed vehicular action. The short, high flying courses are tight and very addictive to learn as you aim for that elusive perfect run. Multiplayer is even better, with lots of options for competitive or co-operative play, including a full two player campaign. What’s more, there’s PSVR support and a course creator that lets you make your very own vomit-inducing tracks. With its moreish time trials and simple controls, thrill-seekers should definitely give Trackmania Turbo a look.
18. Tiny Trax
Scalextric in a fantasy setting, Tiny Trax uses PlayStation VR to embed you in the coolest playroom ever, making for a comfortable but immersive virtual reality racing experience that sees vehicles duking it out all around you. The gameplay is easy to pick-up but super challenging to master, tasking you with finding the cornering sweet spot in order to maintain maximum acceleration, all while replenishing your boost. There’s not much content, but excellent use of virtual reality makes this one of the more novel racing games on PS4.
The anti-gravity racing genre went away for a while, but has come back with a vengeance over the last few years. Redout is one such WipEout wannabe, and it's a surprisingly good alternative. We were especially taken with its excellent sound design, sense of speed, and the intense Boss Races. While it perhaps doesn’t quite have the finesse in its design that its inspiration is famous for, this is still a fun and frenetic racer that’s well worth a shot.
This indie arcade racing title might not look like much, but it's a surprisingly good little game with acres of content. Inspired by 90s racers like Top Gear and OutRun, the game features hundreds of races, plenty of unlockable cars to use and upgrade, and a handful of modes to master. What's more, you can play it all in split-screen local multiplayer. Horizon Chase Turbo is a slick, addictive, ultra-fast racer that punches above its weight.
