PS Vita Hack Apparently Allows The Use of Homebrew Code
Posted by Damien McFerran
The legacy of PSP hacking lives on
An exploit has been discovered that alledgely permits the use of 'custom' code - otherwise known as homebrew - on the PS Vita, according to Wololo.net.
Hacking the PSP was a popular pastime for many owners, and it would appear that the same desire to tinker is afflicting Vita fans.
It's hard to confirm the reports at this moment in time, and any exploit which does appear is likely to be patched up by Sony pretty quickly.
But still, it's amazing to see how resourceful some hackers are.

Everything will be hacked. It's just the nature of some people's desire to tinker. But with great power comes great responsibility.
Oh, and 10000000000 kudos for the Hackers image. That is such an awesome movie!

That would certainly be a better approach than what they're doing now. A controlled method for homebrew would be more effective than cracking down harder & harder, and could prove to be good for business.
Yes, I'm new(ish) I used to just pop in for the news, didn't think I could keep up with more than one site at first.

Thats what they said about the PSP. Everyone and their mama proclaim that they are only interested in homebrew but those very same people also downloaded pirated games for the PSP. The problem is that you give people a little and they end up taking the entire plate. Allowing Homebrew on the PS Vita will put Sony in hot water with those developers in a way it is a form of piracy. Allowing homebrew will also deter developers from supporting the console and we see this happen with the PSP. Millions of people who have a hacked PSP now only have a Hacked PSP and no new games to play (in america anyways).
In a perfect world Homebrew for the PS Vita will be nice to have but history show us that this will lead to more and more different hack where eventually the system become jailbroken. When this happen it will be the end of the line for the vita.
I understand the need for tinkering and curiosity but if you find it keep it to yourself. Hackers always say that by doing this they are discovering new things about the system bring out the full potential of the system... look at the PSP what is the point of discovering it true potential when its not even supported anymore. Why would you want homebrew on the vita when you already have it on your PSP?

There goes the Vita's online community. Though if they can get "certain Programs" working on the Vita, I might consider trying it out.

Some of the points you state are right. However if homebrew where allowed as budget titles on Minis or Playstation Mobile small developers would have more sources, would gain some money and, since we talk about low budget titles big game releases would not really be affected. There is some way to contol homebrew and if someone hacked the PSP would be only for piracy and this is something you can't avoid. It would be easier to download homebrew for low prices than hacking my PSP. There are clearly a lot to do with legal homebrew on all major platforms with PSP being the king. Also the release of more titles in the PSP store and lower the prices should help to counter piracy but this happened later in PSP's lifespan when it didn't really matter.
So I think that in Vita Playstation Mobile is a good start. It is free to develop and you can easily publish your game/applications.
A lot of people hackes the PSP to play emulated games from past generations. Was it that hard for SEGA, Capcom and other old developers releasing on PSN their back catalogue? Yet in never happened and the only real alternative was the expensive Virtual Console on Wii. This changed recently since there are now some games from PS1,SNK and SEGA available for PSP/Vita but we certainly need more. If old games are released cheap on PSN there is really no reason to hack your console for emulation (except if you are a Ninty fan but in this case you should use VC on Wii).
In the end everything is about available content. Give budget homebrew / retro games, lower the prices on full software, make sure there are a lot of titles to choose from and there is no reason for CFW.

If they get some good emulators running, I might buy a Vita. If they get an N64 emulator on there, I'll definitely get one.
