Overall i'd say it looked pretty good. It seemed...I don't know...unfinished? I feel like they glossed over things pretty quickly without showing much detail. The PS4 reveal showed everything in great detail comparatively speaking. What features they did show, they didn't show how they worked with much detail.
It's an old standard that needs to be left behind. I have an HDMI-based 7.2 surround system that was upgraded from an optical-based 5.2 system. I'm glad I upgraded. Optical is old. And it doesn't support some of the audio features that are coming out with the PS5 anyway.
When has any console launch line-up looked FANTASTIC? Never, that's when. But the launch line-up isn't what makes people decide on what console they are getting either. It's the games to come.
Exclusivity is one of the things that drives competition. Do people not realize that? It seems there are some who just want everything to be identical between consoles. That's stupid and unrealistic.
I'm excited to hear about the UI and what kind of nifty features they'll have waiting for us. What initially sold me on the PS4 (i mean, I was already sold by the time they talked about this, but whatever) was the way they described being able to stream a game, have someone watching you play, be able to invite them into the game and take over playing it or play with them. That whole presentation was amazing. I think that SharePlay is still an overlooked feature of the PS4. I hope they just expand on it and make it better on PS5. At this point we already know they are going to have the superior selection of games, it's probably safe to say the price is going to be either $399 or $499 (both quite doable for me) and we know that the Xbox won't be able to do anything that is SO much better it's going to blow our socks off. From what I know thus far, the PS5 is in a clear 'winning' position for next gen.
Cool! Now people can show off their pretend play time (because let's face it, people will just leave games running to pad their times to feel superior to others because people suck.)
I know the games will be there, I just need to see the console itself! It's going to match the controller I'm sure so it'll be white with black accents.
Does it bother anyone else (or are we just used to the way the gaming industry treats us by now) that the game is 6+ months from release and they're already talking about paid DLC?
Isn't the atypical model to sell consoles at a loss and make it up with software attach rates and lower hardware costs in the future anyway? So if they are reporting that it's looking like the PS5 is in the $450 range, shouldn't consumers expect it at the $399 mark?
Looking forward to a PS5 official announcement later this year. Can't wait for official specs. My day-one OG PS4 only spins up on certain games like No Man's Sky and Inquisitor. Both my Pro's are also silent except for a few games when they sound like they are going to lift off!
I'd love another handheld from Sony. They just need to stop using weird hardware and odd screen resolutions. Stop trying to be revolutionary and just give us a handheld that is conformable to hold and has reasonable power. No touch screens on the front or the back. No mysterious, proprietary ports. No overly expensive memory cards. Put in a USB-C charging port. Allow for external controllers and storage and combined with quality Sony exclusives boom, there's a top seller.
@andymitchelluk Go do some reading about the system requirements. The PS4 hardware is well within the suggested hardware requirements. Not the minimum requirements, the suggested requirements.
@andymitchelluk It's 100% on over 1,000 games at this point. And that list is growing. There's no reason Sony couldn't implement some kind of block on games that they didn't approve to run through the emulator if they didn't think it would be good enough.
The PS4 has the capability to emulate and play over 1,000 PS3 games natively. This emulator was put together by a team of folks who just got together on the internet and did it. Imagine what Sony engineers with intimate knowledge of the PS3 hardware and the PS4 hardware could do.
I'm having fun with the game so far! It has the feel of Crackdown kinda. With the finding of items on rooftops and such and the cartoony kinda look it has. I like it. I've been playing for about 3 days now and have several agents unlocked. Can't wait for DLC!!!
@Neolit Maybe you aren't entirely familiar with the PS Now service. The latency between controller and screen is near zero, even on a mediocre connection. That's been my experience anyway.
Infact, MOST movies now that are being released in the UHD format are only 2K and are being upscaled by the Xbox One S or by the TV you are viewing them on. So if you want to make a big deal about upscaling instead of native 4k content, you should probably ditch UHD Blu-Rays that don't come from Sony.
In an interview with Andrew House, he said video playback was the #2 use for the PS4 besides gaming. But that STREAMING video was used 5 times more than the Blu-Ray feature. So paying the extra cost to have a UHD drive in the machine when it's not being used even a quarter as mush as Netflix and other streaming solutions just doesn't make sense.
I already sold on it, except for the price mystery. $300 max. ANything more than that and it's already dead. Even $300 is pushing it, but that just how much I'm willing to pay for it.
To all those that are new to these games: This is NOT a Devil May Cry kind of game. If you rush into a group of enemies thinking you are going to go all crazy anime style sword action on them, you are going to be disappointed. If you treat it as such you will spend most of you time dying and will probably not get very much out of this game. Be tactical with your aggression. Treat every enemy carefully, as if it could easily kill you, because they can.
@PSIN4MANT I agree 100%. This isn't a typical game, folks. It's a shooter with RPG/MMO tendencies. You have to grind. They've already (regrettably) proven that folks will buy mid-gen upgrades. It's going to happen.

Someone right after the announcement and console reveal was talking about how people would be amazed at how customizable the console would be.

Re: PS Now's PS3 Games Can't Be Downloaded, 'Not Compatible' with PS4
@PaulDanby156 If you pay the $99 for a year it works out to about $7/month. That's less than a Gamepass account.
Re: PS Now's PS3 Games Can't Be Downloaded, 'Not Compatible' with PS4
@andymitchelluk The PS4 apu has been benchmarked and its well within the requirements to run RPCS3. Look it up.
Re: PS5 Backwards Compatibility Suggested by Sony Patent
@Zombie9ers PS3 can already be emulated on mid range x86 processors pretty easily. Do a Google search for something called RPCS3.

Re: DLC Review: NEXT Makes No Man's Sky the Best It's Ever Been
@RogerRoger If your idea of "finished" is all the bugs have been found and fixed then there never has been a finished game in the history of gaming.

Just games being talked about this year. Are they actually announcing anything new?

@Ralizah because in that game you hold two guns at the same time. Would you buy two Aim controllers to play one game?

Re: Hands On: How Does Fallout 4: Nuka World Run on PS4?
I don't understand this statement in the article: " The studio has always struggled to optimize its titles for PlayStation platforms"
The PS4 and Xbox One are so similar to PC now, that I don't think optimization is any kind of issue.
