@belmont "The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles" ...I see you are a man of culture as well. (Ace Attorney Trilogy criminally did not enter my top 5, but then I played the everloving heck out of the DS games as they came out in the UK).
It's utter bull that I didn't get CrossCode in my top 5, I thought I threw a good few hours into it. Embarrassing that my number 1 game for the second year running was Sonic Mania....at 91 hours. Goes to show '21 was a slow year gaming-wise for me, nothing really came out that I wanted to put loads of hours into.
@bloodycelt Namco wouldn't be that stupid I don't think, Xenosaga would be fine (see: Ace Combat Unsung War was untouched when Namco rereleased it for PS4, just had upscaled HD). Square, who own Chrono Trigger, though...
I may keep an eye on this. I sold my Dreamcast copy of Jet Set Radio and regret it, so I will have to live my Dreamcast life vicariously through my Playstation. (I DO have the Steam rerelease, but that's a port of the mobile version and iirc the controls are shonky...)
@Milktastrophe ngl that would be boss. We DON'T have to pay absurd prices to own it, AND it's remade for 2022 hardware? Hell, if Sega DON'T do this I suggest we get the pitchforks and torches and march on their headquarters.
@KundaliniRising333 echoing ratchetmarvel up there - in the PAL region we got very very few of those IPs and it would be a first time release here. I'm looking at Xenosaga, Chrono Cross, Xenogears....Incredible games that PAL residents had to either mod their PS1s or resort to piracy to play. Twenty years later I acquired a sealed, legitimate Chrono Cross and can actually play it on PAL hardware, but it still requires some less-than-savoury trickery. Can you say custom firmware PS3....
@UltimateOtaku91 wait a minute....I do believe Insomniac has laid the groundwork to make Chrono Trigger PS5 a reality. I.e. the instantaneous dimension shifting on Ratchet and Clank....imagine the time travel transitions, even faster than the SNES cartridge was.
PLEASE be Xenosaga or Chrono Trigger. Xenosaga by its very nature and art direction has been begging to be remade in HD (and you bet I would preorder on day one). Plus add it to the list of "RPGs that did not get a release in PAL regions but would do well there" along with the original Chrono Trigger (we got that on DS eventually, but I preordered an NTSC copy fearing we'd be overlooked again - bless the DS's status as a region free console) and ANY release of Chrono Cross. I will hold it against Namco that we only got Xenosaga 2 until I'm in the grave (I own legitimate NTSC copies of 1 and 3 and both Free MC Boot'd my PS2 and CFW'd my PS3 to play them on actual hardware).
@Deadlyblack I was upset that Crunchyroll did not have Kill la Kill so I went screw it, and bought the blurays. Marathon'd the whole thing in like four days.
@Deadlyblack every time I see your pfp I'm reminded that 1/ Kill la Kill is most excellent, and 2/ Kill la Kill IF is still very much on my queue of games to play more than fifteen minutes of. I bought the disc, but haven't given it much more time than the tutorial.
@lolwhatno I literally keep spiders alive in my flat because of this. They don't bother me so I don't bother them, and they work as great pest-insect control, AND I don't have to spray chemicals to do it - all-natural fly catching!
@PhhhCough no arachnophobia here, spiders are cool the only turn off was the mention of dwarves (don't get your high fantasy in my sci-fi kthx) but overall it sounds pretty fun, I'll give it a chance like I did Knockout City. Hopefully it'll have longevity, KC was fun for about two weeks then I forgot about it.
Persona has zero interest from me, and I own Dirt 5, but that other one...I've heard nothing about it, guess I'll do some research and see if it's my cuppa tea!
@DoctorJohnDisco hmm, I think Fallout 76 wasn't well received enough to be considered a free PS4 game, and Bethesda probably wouldn't be able to agree to it considering MS owns them now.
@Mostik you know, I prefer physical where possible too for largely the same reasons (collector+support studio), and I DID get a Game voucher for Christmas...I may just acquire a physical Kena here. (I'm in the UK myself also.)
@DoctorJohnDisco Fallout 76? No. As for Metro - for those that don't own it on PS5, that would be great. For me not so much, I bought a digital copy when I got my PS5, so if it went free I wouldn't even be able to trade it in ;_;
@Voltan "guaranteed to have Bugs at launch" bwahahaha jeez I'm using that in my work meeting Monday (we were talking about this game today in our morning meeting)
Something good would be nice. We had Knockout City last month which is enjoyable, but if they do -another- month of an online-only multiplayer as the headline PS5 game I'll actually start flinging turds like a monkey. Similarly no fantasy cack please.
Well there's a couple on that list I have my eye on, Rift Apart and Tales of Arise - but dang it I bought Deathloop at £48 in CEX yesterday, shoulda waited. But hey. Could have been worse; I was either going to buy Deathloop or Rift Apart yesterday, and the guy behind the counter advised Deathloop...and boy am I glad, with Tescos doing R+C for £25 starting today XD would have felt like a right mug if I'd bought it at full price yesterday.
The legitimate unholy beatings I foresee people perpetrating as Shaggy will make this worth it. Will probably check it out, I was king as Roy on Melee in uni and since then I've been hurting for some off-Nintendo Smash....
@KayOL77 oh the days of running a SNES emulator on a completely unmodified Dreamcast that I had burned to a CD-R and yep, the damn thing booted it without so much more than another CD-R boot disc. I love my Dreamcast with a passion and will part with it only when I'm in the grave, but the fact of the matter is Sega's laughable "we'll make the discs 1GB CDs, that'll foil the pirates!" killed the poor thing dead. (Didn't help that the PS2 came battle ready with a DVD drive and sealed the coffin.)
@ILikeStake so my 60GB PS3 was either refurbished or looked after well as I got it second hand five years ago and it's never failed on me. I keep it well ventilated and used regularly, no trace of any yellow lights yet.
@RedKnight34 good for you, except I live in a region that missed out on a lot of what would become my favourite games because publishers think all we play is FIFA and we're not interested in actually good games. And guess what - a lot of those games came out before region locking was frowned upon. So in order to play those games, I had to take extra measures so I could still buy them legitimately and play them.
You know, I never felt the need to hack my PS4, and don't forsee me doing it to my PS5. That 60GB PS3 sitting over by my TV though? Oh you bet that's CFW'd. It was the only way I could play my legitimate acquisitions of the Japanese Ace Combat 3 (English patched) and Xenosaga 1 and 3 (no, releasing them only in NTSC-U and NTSC-J regions didn't stop me buying brand new discs from import retailers) on real hardware. I did also softmod my PS2 to do the same, but that was only through network booting and damnit sometimes you just want to pop the disc in the console and boot it that way (plus Xenosaga 3 didn't like my PAL PS2 and would show a great big transparent grey overlay every time I got near an NPC). Now, if they jailbreak the PS5 and write a 4K upscaling PS2 emulator, I might change my mind...unless Sony's big remake announcement in December with Yasunori Mitsuda is Xenosaga....in which case, what was the PS2 again?
Zero interest in most of this...particularly not thrilled about Kingdoms of Amalur (more fantasy tripe, immediate pass)...but as I didn't jump on the Among Us bandwagon, First Class Troubles genuinely looks like a laugh.
@Wilkens "or games that could be run on a mobile device" seriously. We have one of the most powerful architectures available and developers are still developing stuff that looks like it was made for the Switch or early PS4. Would it kill them to take advantage of the PS5's technologies?
Kena for PS5 would be nice, I want to try it but given what I've heard I might not go for it at full price. What else...nope, that's my wishlist (some "list" lol), nothing else out at the moment that interests me other than Tales of Arise and the likelihood it'll be that is probably zero.
... How are you guys getting Metal Gear Solid from Yasunori Mitsuda? This is 100% Xenosaga or Xenogears, considering his connection with both those games and Celtic-style music. Why would Mitsuda be composing for Metal Gear Solid?
I might partake. Vice City was bangin, San Andreas was great (you can't tell me you didn't rock out to Toto's Hold The Line when you were tooling around in the boonies) and 3 was...actually the one I played least and would like to get into.
8. Always and forever. I love the Junction system, the story, the music...the whole thing. I would rather Squeenix remake 8 before 9, I have played about 3 hours of 9 and I'm sorry but it is vastly inferior.
Welp, that's a pass on everything here - not even remotely interested in any of it (I WOULD have been interested in Star Wars Racer, but I platinum'd the digital release in 2 hours on the PS4). Good thing too, I want to concentrate on my backlog.
FFS another multiplayer-only game for the PS5 game? Is it too much to ask for a solid offline story-driven game? The only game I have enjoyed on PS5 out of the free games since getting mine was......nope, none of them. The other two? You really gave PS4 a GOLF GAME? Abysmal showing from Sony (for me) so far.
