@Gbarsotini "Sony put their western hands in them."
check yourself before you wreck yourself, Sony is headquartered in Japan. Thanks for playing.
edit: checked myself before I wrecked myself, SIE aren't. I said Sony though, so I'm not entirely wrong. XD
Ooh did you say Steins;Gate Elite? As someone who loves Steins;Gate (enough to have a divergence meter tattoo), that is a WIN for me. I didn't buy it at the inflated UK pricing for that game, so I'm ON for that
@Dezzy70 same, my first console was my Sega Master System...from brand new, in 1992. I've seen plenty of IPs come and go, and a lot of gamers are people like us who have been around for 30+ years so companies are banking (literally) on the nostalgia thing. New gamers are getting their fill too, so don't worry about that - I for one am in both camps, I like the remakes (if they're of properties I care about; I would kill for the chance to see two or three classic JRPGs - like 1995-2002, the golden age of JRPGs - built from the ground up in Unreal 5) but believe you me I'll fire up Horizon which is much newer from time to time.
@Dezzy70 oh I share this view with you; notice how Rockstar have just released GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition as hype was generating for GTA6? Yeah, cashflow. Not just Rockstar either, Nintendo have been doing this for yonks - Pokémon LG/FR spring to mind, and then later SS/HG and so on. Always when they need a cash boost to develop the next standalone title.
@Apfelschteiner people gotta whinge I guess. XD I'm one of those people who votes on the PS Plus This Month polls and if I don't like the selection, I say so but move on - my opinion isn't the Be All and End All™ and I recognise Sony have to make a buck. Someone likes their Fifa? Go nuts, is just not for me.
I'll stick with Essential until some games that interest me go on the service. With the rumours of Shadow Hearts, that might not be too far away... maybe we'll see a proper PAL release of a certain other RPG trilogy too through this.
@jmac1686 "They truly thought launching with that piss poor selection would make me want to upgrade." yes, they were targeting you specifically out of every PS Plus user on the planet. You might not like it but others do.
@nessisonett for real. I'd like to think Sega are actually doing a remake, but haven't announced it yet. They have a track record of "oh hey we're releasing [game] remastered for PC/PS4/whatever..." "oh when?" "somewhen. OH HEY SURPRISE! It's out now!"
@thefourfoldroot "Skies of Arcadia"..."three times" if they remake Skies, regardless of the fact that I'm in the middle of my ....tenth? playthrough (I'm playing it on Dreamcast through the VGA cable and an OSSC and it feels like a whole new game O_O) I would buy the hell out of it AND play it through.
I DARE you all to play with a Pulse3D headset (or whatever you have that can do surround sound, preferably on yo ears). I never got over playing the original FEAR on a 5.1 sound system and I am sad I never experienced Dead Space that way.
@GusBH yeah! Like, my PS3 and PS5 are certainly not "portable", it's a phat 60GB PS3 (by far the heaviest of all the PS3s) and ...well the 5 is a 5. Hardly drop into a bag and take with you size.
@PegasusActual93 Mine's on display. Not by design, purely because there isn't enough room for all my consoles under my TV and my Playstations (well, 3 and 5 anyway, my 2s are both PS2 Slims) are too large to get into my TV stand, so they're off to the side and very much visible.
@SoulChimera nice claim to fame! ha but you're right, if anyone could remake Cool Spot it'd be Microsoft. Or, maybe Elon Musk will realise the world needs Cool Spot again, and will engulf the rights with his vast reserves of moolah....
Ooh I've been wanting to try the original Shadow Hearts and was hoping they'd turn up on PS Plus like this, I LOVED Covenant (never finished but got most of the way through it and loved what I played). Covenant's soundtrack was wicked too.
Hmm, remake of an EA property that is not Dead Space....I would have to beg for a remake of Need for Speed Underground 2, or maybe the first Most Wanted. Both superb games, both would look legitimately incredible on PS5 and XSX...Switch can get in its box and fly away though, we wouldn't want a remake held back by that tablet thing.
@Apfelschteiner nah, still doesn't appeal. If it's possible to have negative interest in something, then yeah, that. I have absolutely no time for football.
Never mind giving it away free, you could not pay me to take FIFA, the only FIFA I've ever owned was 97 on the Saturn, and even then I didn't buy it myself (friend gave it to me when I bought his Saturn). Awful month if true.
@OrtadragoonX so I agree mostly. I dislike the vast majority of the US soundtrack but that title screen music and Sonic Boom for the opening and ending are wicked, I just don't understand why Spencer Nielsen broke the whole "every timezone of a level has the same musical theme" thing, made the US version inferior in my opinion. The level design is interesting to say the least but you have to understand they had four level maps PER ACT (except bosses which are always in the Future, though if I recall correctly the 1995 PC version was a bit broken here and let you see them in the Past) to design, and they all had to meaningfully link together. That said, I have run afoul of poor level design once or twice - there's a part of Palmtree Panic where you can literally time travel into the ground, and Tidal Tempest 1 if you're unlucky enough can time travel you into a room behind a wall that is completely unfixable. But the majority of the game is alright in that respect. Metallic Madness is HARD, but only Last-Level-of-an-Early-Sonic-Game hard. I have little trouble with it, but then I've been playing it 25 years.
Oh agreed on Sonic 2. I don't understand how it routinely gets called the BEST SONIC EVAR despite CD and 3+K being vastly superior.
Ah, yes, 3+K. As I said I prefer CD, but not by much. 3+K was a fantastic game, really taking the fight to Nintendo for one of the best platformers of all time. Rocket Knight Adventures is rare enough in the UK that I haven't managed to source a copy at a reasonable price yet so I can't comment, but I have emulated and played a level or two and liked what I saw. Would just like to get an actual Mega Drive copy to sit in my self-refurbed Mega Drive and play. that reminds me....wonder if anyone does RGB cables that accept the Mega CD as well so I can run my MD/MCD combo through my OSSC...
Ooh new animations? Oooooooh new areas to explore? Wonder if there's a platinum for each main game.... Sonic CD remains one of the very few games I have 100%'d achievements/trophies-wise on Steam and PS3.
@kyleforrester87 Sonic Chaos, or Sonic and Tails, does need a lot more love. I think the only acknowledgement we had of it in recent times was the Mirage Saloon 1 boss (doubly so if you're playing as Knuckles) in Sonic Mania. I have had the Master System version since release (got it for Christmas 1994?? because I didn't have a Mega Drive and my mum couldn't afford Sonic 3) and would love to play it through again. I did just acquire a repair-project Game Gear which came with a copy of Sonic Chaos, so now I have the option of handheld or on my TV
I want my reboot of Skies of Arcadia. I will die on that hill. But only graphical reboot, and maybe a direct translation instead of the rewrite we got in the West....don't get me wrong, I love the Whedon-inspired style they wrote in for the translation, but I think I want to see just what the original game was like, now that gaming has grown up enough that we don't need to censor alcohol and smoking to get an audience.
@Grumblevolcano "It's probably about Mega Drive being the only successful SEGA hardware, everything else flopped." Tell Brasil that. The Master System was and is still immensely popular there and sold hugely, especially rebranded as the TecToy.
@Luigia already 100%'d it with every character just after Plus came out, and I've been around since the very original Mega Drive Sonic games and owned each and every one (multiple times in some cases; I own one of every version ever released in the UK of Sonic CD...kinda my favourite lol) and 100%'d them twenty and thirty years ago but STILL have SUPER HYPE for Origins. Mania is an excellent game, but is by no means a singular replacement for having the originals especially in their new form.
I am ON for this. Sega also have a history of announcing stuff, then SURPRISE!!-releasing it when NO-ONE expects it. I'm thinking of the Steam port of the first Valkyria Chronicles, and the completely unannounced release of the Resonance of Fate 4k remaster after showing it off to much fanfare at the E3 nearly a year before it. Sonic Origins is also likely to turn up on June 23rd, as that's Sonic's technical birthday (see: Sonic Adventure 2 got released exactly on the 10th birthday in 2001), but could be earlier knowing Sega. I'm HOPING Sega have let Christian Whitehead loose on Sonic CD, he had amazing plans for that Final Fever time-bending final boss. Maybe we'll see some cut content making it into Sonic 2 as well.
I am mad 8 wasn't higher... But I'm happy it wasn't lower. In my opinion 8 is superior to 9 (I tried to like 9, I really did, but it just bored me in the first 5 hours). I preferred 8 over 7 too, but 7 Remake is winning me over.
I would much rather see a FFVIII remake before IX, I really couldn't get into IX (believe me, I tried). VIII is my holy grail Final Fantasy remake, but not my ultimate RPG remake wish....
@Nem big agreement. I've played 10 minutes of Radical Dreamers and my first playthrough of the original (as incomplete as it is) is so recent, enough to say: it feels like they're going for authenticity and I'm here for it.
@ShogunRok it was released in Europe!........13 years later and on the DS. And it's on Android, iOS and Steam. Still, 22 years for a European release of Cross, but at least they finally understand PAL gamers aren't only interested in football.
Please be Sega. Maybe then we'd get really decent remakes of stuff that Sega have left dormant... And the next Valkyria Chronicles won't be dumbed down for the Switch.
Nothing for me on this month, but am hype for the Plus overhaul and I'm still working my way through a few games acquired in the last few months so I won't be bored. Plus Chrono Cross is out in a week or just over.............that's been on my wishlist since announcement.
