Re: Here's Your First Look at DOOM on PS4

holchasaur

@get2sammyb I have zero idea what to expect from it at this point. I think I'd prefer run-'n'-gun the most, honestly, but I don't anticipate it being that straightforward. I'd guess it'll be a combination of the horror pacing/aspects of Doom III mixed with the narrative focus of Wolfenstein. But who knows!

What does everyone else want from new DOOM?

Re: La-Mulana EX Ventures to PlayStation Vita Next Week

holchasaur

@Dodoo Yeah. I mean, I don't know what you've heard, but it's no easy game. Most of the challenge comes in the form of solving puzzles without any direction. You have to figure out where the puzzles are in each room, and also what it is you need to do to solve them. It's a whole heck of a lot of exploration and toying around. It's amazing, though. And from what it sounds like, this version will be much more inviting than the previous ones.

Re: Review: Resogun: Defenders (PlayStation 4)

Heck yeah. I'm going to download this as soon as I get my PS4 set up in my office. I'm scared to have access to Resogun and Stardust just a couple feet from where I work, though. These games totally suck me in and cause me to lose track of the hours. They're good at that. Too good.

Re: Yes, MLB 15 The Show Looks Stunning on PS4

holchasaur

I'm always tempted to buy The Show each year, but when I do, I don't play it very much beyond a couple weeks. This looks really, really slick, though, so I'm not sure I'll be able to resist. Especially not with a Dodger on the cover.

Re: Review: Citizens of Earth (PlayStation 4)

Pretty spot-on review. I've been playing the 3DS version. I like it, but there are consistently little things that keep me from liking it too much. Some of the environments are way too confusing to navigate, and I personally find the battle system a little meh. But, by and large, the pros have been outweighing the cons, keeping me pushing through the underwhelming and occasionally frustrating moments.

Re: Review: Velocity 2X (PlayStation 4)

@Gemuarto I've perfected 45 of the 50 stages now and haven't really had any issues with the controls. Could they be a bit much to digest for someone not familiar with the series? Absolutely. But I don't think there's anything I would change or tweak. (of course I'm not arguing that you didn't find the controls frustrating; I'm just admitting that my experience was almost identical to Mat's) If you want a simple two-button shmup, those exist. If you want something with more complexities, something more dynamic that provides the player with much room to perfect and customize their approach based on each challenge presented, well, there's Velocity 2X. Different strokes for different folks.

Re: Rumour: The Unfinished Swan Feeling Its Way onto PS4 and Vita

holchasaur

It's so weird that you're posting this, @get2sammyb. Two days ago, as I was browsing PSN on Vita, I realized that I never did get around to playing The Unfinished Swan and then wondered why Sony didn't bring it over to Vita. Since my PS3 is kind of pushed aside right now, a portable release would definitely be the reason I'd give this a download. Seriously hoping this happens!

Re: Review: 1001 Spikes (PlayStation 4)

holchasaur

@get2sammyb Surprisingly, outside of one stage (10-4 I think it was), I didn't really get all that worked up. Going in I expected to despise the tricks & traps and want to throw in the towel quickly, but it never happened. I'm rather shocked, actually.

Are you going to give this one a shot, Sammy? Or is it not your cup of tea?

This game is such a treat for those of us fond of the NES era. I played the Xbox One version like a madman this weekend and now I'm considering double-dipping and getting a copy for 3DS or Vita, as well.

Solid review!

Re: Review: Watch Dogs (PlayStation 4)

Nice one, @ShogunRok. I'd say the review mostly matches my feelings. During the first few hours I was worried that everything was a bit too generic, but once the story picked up and all of the open-world activities became apparent, I started having a great time. Now if only I could pull myself away from Mario Kart 8 long enough to get back to it...
