Earth Defense Force is one of the those franchises that clicks because of its simplistic, focused nature. Our planet is in danger, we grab guns, we shoot absolutely everything within a five mile radius, and we get a bigger gun as a reward for our services. It knows that it's a daft game, and it doesn't strive for anything other than its trademark ridiculousness.
Fortunately, if you haven't yet found the chance to take the series for a test drive, you'll be glad to know that it's heading to the PlayStation 4 next year in Japan. Despite being a big bundles of chaotic fun, the games tend not to run all that well, with the frame rate dipping into dangerously low numbers when things get hectic.
With a little luck, though, the power of Sony's new console might make Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair the most technically stable instalment that we've seen. Take a look at the teaser trailer that we've embedded, and let us know if you'd like to sign up for bug stomping duty in the comments section below.

I'm looking forward to this^-^
Over top arcade bug stomping with my friends on PS4....count me in
Never played any of the previous titles, really enjoyed resistance, is it vaguely similar...
Sweetness! My wife really took to the last EDF when I reviewed it for pX, so she'll no doubt be excited about this. So much mindless fun in co-op.
EDF! EDF! EDF! EDF! DAY 1!
I approve of the headline.
@Splat I was referencing you, of course! Splat, scourge of the bugs.
Class.
@SimonAdebisi No, not at all.
Cheap, big, dumb, fun that's actually a bit crap. But, like Street Fighter The Movie, is bizarrely entertaining.
If you have a last gen console, try picking up a cheap copy of any of them. It will be more of the same.
