Re: Is This Redesigned PS4 User Interface an Improvement?

dnky666

@Mrskinner Couldn't agree more. In principle the idea of the icons is great but things I do not use, such as TV, I want the ability to remove. All I need is the store and my currently installed games.

Still at least I haven't got a bloody great Singstar icon permanently stuck on my UI for no bloody reason.

Re: Gamescom 2015: Sony Had Long and Intensive Discussions Over Horizon: Zero Dawn

dnky666

@themcnoisy Thought I was the only old person round these parts. Cool. I cited Vib Ribbon as an example of a major studio releasing something that was different and adventurous. I certainly wasn't citing it as an example of fun and game design although comparing it to Tower of Guns seems a little harsh. That and it was the game that Shawn Layden cited at his first E3 to win "hardcore gamers" over and show how Sony differ as a company and he as CEO or whatever he is.
I just though the comments gave a mixed message. On one hand Sony are "dropping the mic" at E3, pushing their indie message, employing Executive of the people Adam Boyes and all round trying to seem the very antithesis of their competition. Full disclosure I own and equally love ALL the consoles. So to then reinforce in comments to the press how non gaming money orientated suits have a say in the creative process seems decidedly off message. Surely he would have been better saying that both Sony and Guerilla were excited to break the cycle of the annualised franchise. Not for Sony a 5th FPS (A slight dig at Halo? Surely not) but instead they were letting one of their flagship developers introduce a new, exciting and forward thinking IP. Doesn't that seem a bit less passive aggressive than what he actually said. Although after the mauling The Order:1886 got you can understand that they may be a bit nervous.

Re: Gamescom 2015: Sony Had Long and Intensive Discussions Over Horizon: Zero Dawn

So a studio with a proven track record making a third person action game with RPG elements and a a fairly large nod to Monster Hunter is a risk? Really? We're hardly pushing the envelope here.

Still nice of a major games company to admit they put profit above creativity and allowing developers to be true to an artistic vision. Is this the same company that brought us Vib Ribbon, Parappa the Rapper or the Souls franchise?

In truth Sony knew that it was financially risky to fund another pretty and playable but fundamentally meh Killzone game.

Cynicism aside though it does look amazing and I cannot wait to play it.

Re: Gamescom 2015: Will PS4's VR Headset Project Morpheus Be Expensive?

dnky666

VR will go the same way as 3D, Motion Control and whatever else they dream up next. The hype is being led by Bloggers and Tech Journalists who get too play with and in many cases own this stuff for free. Here in the UK $300 dollars becomes £300 which is actually $465. Plus who is going to shell out $60 or $70 for games that are glorified tech demos.

"Oh wow I can look around and actually head the ball into the back of the net"

An hour later....

"Umm, is that it?"

Or how about impressing your friends by inviting them round so they can one by one play your Morpheus whilst everybody else just watches them wear a plastic visor and ooh and ahh. You thought the lack of couch co-op and watching your mate play till it was your turn was frustrating. Wait till you can see nothing other than your Mate doing their best Cylon Impersonation or at best watch an underwhelming Move game rapidly converted too work with Morpheus play out on your TV and make little sense as you are not experiencing the VR.

Still at least it may prompt a return to people crafting proper meaty 1st person experiences as they can no longer shoehorn pointless multiplayer in. In order to break even any AAA title that even flirts with VR will have to have a non VR version to actually sell enough copies to make it financially viable. Within 18 months VR will be optional like Move or Kinect if it even moves beyond the sort of short lived "experiences" offered so far. Unless you like 3D Eve Valkyrie clones. They'll be a lot of those..

As for demo units the gaming stores are just not set up to have something that would probably need a dedicated space as well as a member of staff permanently next to it to run the demo's as well as clean up the puke when the experience doesn't agree with the general public.

Sorry too be a Luddite but we have seen this all before. Ultimately as games such as GTA V, Witcher 3 or The Last of Us prove we need a controller, a "flat" image on a big eff off TV (or a small bedroom portable) and an emotionally engaging story. Not silly short lived gimmicks.

Re: Reaction: Did Xbox Make Its Gamescom 2015 Presser Pay?

dnky666

That whole live action TV show WITHIN Quantam Break looked silly. I'm all for having real actors perform and appear as motion captured FMV but live action shifting into gameplay just looks like a sad throwback to the early 90's and games like Nightrap, Beyond Zork and Command & Conquer.
Oh and could we have a fourth option to vote for. Something along the lines of "I own both consoles (because, you know, video games) so am equally interested in what BOTH Sony and Microsoft have to offer."
That being said it was kind of boring other than the Dark Souls III trailer. I guess FROM are worried they may have alienated Xbox fans with Bloodborne so are promoting it hard to Microsoft consumers.

Re: Poll: Will You Be Buying Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4?

dnky666

I would envisage that it will re-release on both Xbox One and PS4 as a GOTY edition with all the DLC etc etc in December 2016. They'll definitely struggle to shift a game 13 months after it's initial release at full price especially at such a busy time of the year for "new" games.

Re: Next God of War to Set PS4 Apart from the Other Platforms

dnky666

Did we ever get any clarification on that weird teaser that was in GOW:Acension. It seemed to suggest a change of mythology in any follow up. Weirdly throughout all the talk in the last few months nobody has mentioned it.
When the code found in game was solved it led to a VERY vague cinema....

Re: Is This Real Life? Destiny Wins Game of the Year at the 2015 BAFTAs

dnky666

So Destiny, a multiplayer title, is GOTY but not the best Multiplayer title although it is the GOTY winning multiplayer title released in this year and has just won game of the year.

Seems to me BAFTA wanted to be trendy and award Hearthstone best multiplayer so that meant that Destiny couldn't win the obvious award meant for it so they had no choice but to give it GOTY.

Awards like this are pretty much all paid for and favours for friends anyhow. In fact doesn't Gamer's Network who ran the awards own Push Square?! So by trying to stir up a bit of controversy over GOTY you push up publicity for an event your owners arranged and awarded GOTY to Destiny.

It'll be Qatar winning next year so rife is the corruption. Lol.

Re: People Are Looking for a Reason to Hate PS4's The Order: 1886, Says Ready at Dawn

dnky666

What is most interesting about this whole affair is the fact that no one at Ready at Dawn thought to raise the length of the game as an issue. Not everyone within the company is getting megabucks so surely someone in-house must have flagged this? You only have to look down the Top 10 best reviewed PS4 games on Metacritic (that benchmark of quality revered by producers/publishers!) to find that the full price games are either very long (GTA V, Inquisition), have bags of replay potential (Rayman Legends), or are cheap downloadable games. .At least if someone had thought about this they could have had a coherent defence ready. Likening your game to the single player mode of COD, whilst conveniently forgetting about all the other bits that come with COD, is lame. Although not as lame as suggesting that everyone hates you. Once the bullies (Ready at Dawn's analogy) realise that the bullying reduces you to tears and whining you've lost. Still the game does look awesome and after the dust settles and I can pick it up sub £20 on Amazon I'm all over it. Got a huge backlog at the minute. Assassins Creed:Unity and Far Cry 4 are just to damn long.....

Re: Destiny's Looting a 'Major Content Release' Later This Year

dnky666

Over and above the fact that the DLC was vastly overpriced another aspect no-one mentioned was the lack of any new trophies. Yes I know I am sad but I like trophies and charging me £20 to spend lots of hours grinding needs, for right or wrong, to be incentivised, however artificially, by trophies. Many of my friends will simply not touch a trophy-less/achievementless property.

Re: Feature: Should You Buy Dying Light on the PS4?

dnky666

I'm actually quite glad of the delay for physical copies here in the UK. It gives me time to finish Far Cry 4, AC:unity (Which as an aside emailed me the other day to ask why I hadn't been playing it. Weird.) and Inquisition. Then come Feb 27th I can trade those in and get a copy of this. What I've seen and read of it looks good. I liked Dead Island, I like collecting things a la AC or FC and I loved Mirror's Edge. Seems that Dying Light ticks all those boxes. Plus give it a month and it'll be way more stable although it looks pretty good at the minute anyway.

Re: Review: The Crew (PlayStation 4)

dnky666

If having read the review you fancy this and you're in the UK then it is currently on sale at a certain high street GAME shop for £25. Seems like a pretty good deal......

Re: Video: How's the Latest Beta for The Crew Faring on PS4?

dnky666

I downloaded the Beta early Thursday (in the UK) and was able to play the prologue and drive from Detroit to LAX which was a 40 minute drive via Chicago and Vegas. That map is big.

Weirdly though, for a driving game, they seem to have opted to use the handling from GTA IV. Not Ridge Racer (Arcade heaven) or Forza but GTA IV not V, too realistic IV really nails what we are looking for. The cars have no weight, feel floaty.

Thankfully after marveling at the map and the drive across the USA the game alleviated my growing boredom by, as accurately portrayed in the video, refusing to load as others joined in. Then over the weekend whilst playing Alien and Lords of the Fallen I actually forgot I had Beta access until just now.....

In a slow month in 2015 when the price is sub £15 on Amazon new. Maybe.
