@Hylian-Likely Japanese companies pull this kind of stuff all the time, usually for peddling merch. It's nothing new - Konami, NamcoBandai, etc. been doing it for years as well. Square and FF are just higher profile and have rabid mad fanbases. It's honestly no surprise.
I also think the FF9 Remake at the very least existed at one point, someone on here said theres no smoke without fire and I tend to believe that.
Not sure they can be the biggest joke in the industry when Microsoft exist
Gamepass can be as consumer friendly as it wants, that won't matter in the long run if it's not sustainable. I used to subscribe to Gamepass, but day 1 games have never really been a selling point to me, I'm never dying to play a new game I'm always a year behind. I just play what i feel like at my own pace.
I must have face-blindness because I love Akira Kurosawas films and consequently have watched at least a dozen Mifune-led films over the years and I didn't even notice this. I'm a big Onimusha guy as well
I installed Remnant 2 on my PS5 a year a go and never got round playing it! I'll just buy it when I actually do get the urge to play. I think cos I've got unfinished business with the OG
@MrPeanutbutterz Having watched every episode of The X-FIles -calling Control 'a poor episode of' is'definitely, definitely too far but I agree with the rest of what you're saying generally. Writing in gaming is definitely still evolving.
@KidRisky Sorry, I pulled 'territories' from a different article on the same news. It's just what Steam considers separate territories, A lot of these places govern themselves, despite not being fully independent, that's probably a big reason why they're separate. Not to mention often being very far away from the country that owns them.
@KidRisky It says countries and territories. There are 195 recognized countries, but there are dependent but separate territories scattered all over which bring the number closer to 250 or maybe even more. Stuff like Faroe Islands, Greenland, Hong Kong etc.
@get2sammyb I don't think FF fans have ever been truly unified since 6 and 7, and even that's being generous. I've never known a series to divide fan opinion like FF.
@Nem Yeah I definitely think this is squares opportunity to focus the series with a nice linear sequence of main entries only. I just couldn't bring myself to play all of the handheld entries before 3, and that game referenced EVRYTHING. 3 was a bit of a mess story-wise and I'm usually quite forgiving when it comes to JRPG plotlines.
@Sergo Trust me, I don't plan to was just curious! I did hear there was a remaster coming so I was waiting for it, but it came a lot sooner than I expected, so I am ready to go! Glad to hear you enjoyed it, think I will too. You gonna play it again now the remaster is here?
@get2sammyb That's fair enough, I guess it wouldn't make sense to spend working hours reviewing it again. Enjoy it when you play the remaster!
I actually just bought this in the last sale with all dlc for £8.09, great news. Had been on my wishlist for quite a long time, probably when you guys first reviewed it.
Are you planning on covering the remaster any further?
@Oram77 Well, Liam has vindicated you, I've just read bout 10 reviews and most of the reviewers enjoyed those sections, though a few said they're shallow, but fun and short enough that they don't drag things down. I know they'll be divisive among players.
@BAMozzy Sorry man, I get what you're saying,, and I disagree. You'd be surprised about the demand for Xbox exclusives on the PS5, Xbox are already making money putting their IPs on Playstation, and I believe we'll be getting everything new down the line. They already released a Forza game on PS5 literally a week ago, and it's selling well.
Legacy sequels seem to be coming day one (Doom, Outer Worlds 2) and everything else is timed. No gamepass, but people will still buy the games. I expect Elder Scrolls VI and the next Fallout will be Day 1. Starfield and Avowed will be ported. I do wonder about Hellblade 2 and South Of Midnight.
@Medic_alert Ghost of Yotei will drop in price pretty quickly, all Sony games do, If Nintendo stick to the strategy they have for years now, MarioKart World will always be this price.
Charging what they are for a what amounst to a performance updated version of BOTW is the most egregious of all.But hey Nintendo love charging big money for old games. check the price of Zelda Links Awakaening. Graphical update yes, but it remains a Gameboy game.
Not super excited but I'm gonna give Blue Prince a shot and play the other half of Lost Records, so that's prob my moneys worth. There's always a few games for me a month so I'm still enjoying PS Plus. Still have a crazy backlog though, and we all know time is limited!
@SMJ except i was making a point, not spouting the same old 'I hate this, that's all' comments that contribute nothing, and have all the substance of a twitter-bot.
@naruball The amount of people that waste their limited energy with redundant comments about how they don't like a game rather than just avoiding it altogether astounds me and probably says more abount human nature than we all realise.
Loved Remake and Rebirth. No game was as important as FFVII for me when I was growing up. They nailed the remakes, I just enjoy to exist in that world. Some of the best combat I've seen, lots of extra content, I don't mind any of the story changes at all, it's a JRPG for goodness sake, not a work of literature.
Not every choice they made is a home run, but by and large they knocked it out of the park. I also like Rebirths side content, I'm glad they gave us our money worth.
This isn't a criticism as such, because opinions are opinions, but I swear everytime I look at PushSquare reviews they always review a point or two under the average.Mainly 9s everywhere for this.
Nintendo games aren't worth £75. Look forward to the 1st party games remaining that price for the duration of the Switch 2s existence. I wince at this because it was bad enough when they were releasing Wii U rereleases at £50 with very rare sales. It's only recently that some first party games have dropped to about £35.
@Godot25 Last of Us 2 was first reported to have cleared 10m in 2022, no official figures since then I don't think. The problem with that is that you get clickbaity game sites reporting that figure for years after the fact.
With remastered releasing and the show having aired since then, i can only imagine its millions more in the last 3 years.
TLOU has definitely sold significantly more, but with three versions over 12 years, (7 years on the sequel) TLOU bundles, again the TV show, and the the inevitable sequel drop off (sequels to megahits rarely sell more) what do you expect?
TLOU2 was not a flop, thats just a narrative that haters spun to make them feel better about themselves. If you think Sony wouldn't throw money at sequel, especially with the success of the show, you'd be wrong (in my opinion)
As for the length, fair criticism, personally i liked that it was long, it gave it an ambitious feel. Even people that didn't like it can't fault the ambition. I thought the scenarios the game threw at us were varied enough to keep it high quality from start to finish.
@Bionic-Spencer Lets be honest, there isn't anything in the world that's universally loved. Also, TLOU2 wasn't universally hated, it was extremely divisive, which is completely different. You'd be naive to think that Neil Druckmann and co didn't think a lot of people were going to hate TLOU2, it was definitely intentional(to a degree) Honestly, they deliver a good game that gets people talking, 10s of millions of people who love it, then Alex garland is right 'Who gives a f**k?' Especially when the feedback from the haters, is anything but constructive. I honestly couldn't disagree with you more. Keep pushing it, get people talking, forget the haters. I think what they did with TLOU2 was ballsy and we need more people to push the envelope.
@ryan_nil tbf if we're talking classic game design it makes sense to run the level left to right. I am laughing though, such a great quibble. Would've been great attention to detail mind you.
Love the film, Love the 16 bit era and the throwbacks.....needless to say, I'm in
@LifeGirl Yeah I'm right with you on that one, I'm sure we'll get to the point where people will start crying over games not being able tohit 120fps somewhere down the line as well. Graphics/resolution mean nothing to me. I certainly won't replay the likes of the Last of Us or Horizon just because the graphics have been improved. My time on earth is limited
@johncalmc I've kept quiet on it until today, but I consider myself a hardcore fan and I was happy with what we got. I know there'll be online metrics probably expressing dislike etc. But i think it's fair to say there'll be plenty of big fans who don't engage socially on the internet. I generally don't apart from the odd message on here. I generally find most internet discourse and discussion just becomes fruitless because people argue their points 'loudly' and stubbornly in an infinite, pointless loop. Yet here I am.
I don't think being hardcore always equates to thumbs downing and so forth. I suppose we have nothing else to tell us.
I think you're right about the live-service debacle, defintely set Sony back years. But when we've got Ghost of Yotei, Death Stranding 2, Intergalactic, Saros and Wolverine in the pipeline I can't get too down.
I'm happy having seen these games already, enough to get me hyped.
Funny thing is , I might have been disappointed if the big trailer was DS2 again. I've seen to ultra long trailers of that already.
The discourse just highlights several things to me:
1. A lot of gamers have become entitled and spoiled
2. People are still clamoring for 1st party exclusives on Playstation, even though there's a ridiculous amount of quality games coming, including probably all of Microsofts games. ( I find this a bit tribal)
3. People that claim to be gamers have a strangely narrow taste in games (Ok, that's not proven, but sometimes it seems that way)
4.People don't give a darn about new IPs, even if it could be the next big hit
5. People for some reason want close to everything shown to be up their street. (which is generally unrealisitic)
Now, people will counter with 'we don't need to like it' and that's true, ya totally can. I just get it. There's enough quality games to last me more than my lifetime, the only thing that annoys me is I'll be dead before i get a chance to play them all.
We're all on limited time, can anyone here truly tell me there's not going to be enough quality games to keep you going for life? I doubt it. I'm happy with what we're getting, I don't care about what Sony have put out this generation. I have enough.
@1UP-HUSKY I agree about Code Veronica, although I'm not sure i agree with the notion that Zero holds up well. TBF Zero is probably my least favourite in the whole series.
This could well be a hint that there are no plans to remake 5 anytime soon then, So if the remakes are to continue, will it be Zero or Code Veronica? or both?
@The_Pixel_King shocking that Square never did anything with the Chrono series in general after Cross (apart from a few CT re-releases) Especially when they still pump out Saga and Mana games on the regular. Maybe them now having two blockbuster RPG franchises is enough.....
I played the gamecube version from start to finish back in 2009 i think. It's been a while but i definitely loved it at the time, a classic JRPG adventure. Might play it again, but the problem is I'm drowning in games, I'm in my 30s and time is an issue. I do hope that many JRPG fans that haven't had the chance get a lot of fun out of it!
@Hyena_socks Although i Do plan to go back to it, I had the same issue with the sequel, it seemed like more of the same and i went in too soon after the first one. Maybe if you leave it for a bit you'll feel refreshed?
@Oram77 Agreed, it's the worst mainline Resi but it's nowhere close to 3/10 bad. The game actually has it's fans, and i found it to be enjoyable for the most part.
@RudeAnimat0r Gaiden might as well be a mainline game honestly. Its a bit smaller than most LAD games, but it's still meaty. Take that from a series veteran.
@Lup Just because you've played them doesn't mean its lackluster. It's a great lineup, I actully paid 60 quid over the holidays for Like A Dragon and God of War, and i've played and loved Sayonara Wild Hearts and Citizen Sleeper, so while theres nothing for me, it's undeniably a great month. I'm a huge GOW fan and still haven't played it. Not everyone needs everything day 1 and I find beinga patient gamer is a huge advantage overall. I;m not the only one.
@DrVenture69 Although I wasn't sold on the change of tone for season 3 I now think it's his true masterpiece. I honestly feel like it's a super long film. It also made fire walk with me feel essential as well, it's far closer to that tone-wise than the og series.
Unbelievable.......got £60 in PS store credit from my sisters at christmas, bought God of War Ragnarok and Like A Dargon Gaiden. The headliners of this month. My consolation is i wanted t try anno mutationem
@Northern_munkey I keep an eye on rumours daily and there are several decent sources corroborating this. Usually when that happens the rumour turns out to be true, Where there's smoke there's fire. I'm about 95% sure this is all gonna happen.
