@PuppetMaster Yeah they definitely should help with those. Better yet, rename Fantasia into a new Wild Arms. The fact that he reached back out to Sony is something!
Seriously, Sony has dropped a lot of great talent. Either they're working for other companies (or competitors), made their own studio, or quit the industry entirely... it's very sad to see.
@PocketHotDogs Wish they could do like a mini one they've had for the Genesis or Mega Drive, Game Gear. They've done those before. Same with the Saturn (if they haven't done it already).
Really nice we're finally able to have PS2 games. I do hope they fix those older games from the PS4... and also give some of those games platinum trophies (some didn't).
@tameshiyaku Yeah, I find it strange it's all only on their blog. Seems kind of phoned in most of the time. Like trying to find specific information, it being only there, or confirmation about something.
Most people wouldn't even know about PS.blog unless if you saw it were reported by Push Square, from a YouTube channel, or if you already knew about it beforehand.
Does any other game company do this? A blog of all things?
@ProfessorNiggle I think as to why, he just fits the color scheme of the PS5 and the branding. Most of the other mascots didn't, they also had their own games with their own art direction, or were third-party. People kind of had their own take as to who would be the PS mascot until they chose Astro.
They did not have a synonymous mascot to recognize with for years (that cat and the purple floating head don't count). Unofficial ones, sure, but there's a reason why when people think of Xbox or Nintendo, they think of Master Chief or Mario. Astro would apply here going forward.
There was a rumor of a new portable with power on par to PS4 a week ago (on another gaming news site?). Still a rumor, mind you, but it does seem that Sony is considering wanting to enter back into the market, especially when the Switch's successor is being revealed here soon (also rumored to have the same power near a PS4, and FF7 Remake being one of the launch titles), and popularity with the PC and Emulation handhelds.
Definitely a new PSP would benefit to freeing up my backlog of PS4 games natively on the go. Would also benefit with cartridges and the whole cross-buy/save.
I don't quite understand this way of thinking here.
If anything, I agree with the author, this will only incentivize PC players to not even think about buying PS5 consoles, and rather wait for PC ports to continue to release on Steam, or their launcher if it ever comes out (as we are seeing true about Ragnarok being rumored and Forbidden West being brought over). Just wait until they port these games to phones like RE4 Remake or Death Stranding on the new iPhone.
Doesn't help that their game's budgets are also just insanely bloated and take a long period to develop, so obviously they REALLY need to look for other sources of revenue recoupment, i.e. Mobile and PC.
@UltimateOtaku91 Who knows what will happen. I don't even think that Microsoft will stop selling Xboxes.
We all remember Google tried with the Stadia, and it failed to really get anywhere, being a steaming-only device and subscription service.
Apple only tried once in the 90s with the Pippin. But it was too overpriced and didn't have enough games to really get any support from it. But that was a different era of Apple, anyways, they even got a PS1 emulator running on a Mac.
I doubt Amazon is interested in consoles.
Sega is still just being a game developer now with no plans to return to consoles after the Dreamcast bombed in sales (although it would be cool to see, they definitely have good IPs now if they even were considering to re-enter consoles).
And then there's Microsoft, kind of struggling trying to handle what is realistically five companies (ZeniMax, Microsoft Game Studios, Activision, Blizzard, King) at once under one said brand, correct?
Is there any room for a third company in the console market now if that happens?
I feel as if it's now too expensive for any new company to even do that now, it would've been possible during the fifth or sixth generations to enter the market, hence Xbox.
@Shad361 10-25M (or even less for some others) for their AAA games is a heck of a lot smaller than what Nintendo sells with their games (I think that Mario Kart 8 has sold over 60M units, Zelda and Animal Crossing not too far behind). It's not bad numbers, but there only looking at a certain amount of people.
Sony would kill for those numbers for some of their games to reach even 10M+.
Problem is that PlayStation only attracts the hardcore market, they don't cater to nearly enough of all audiences. Therefore also really limiting their sales to only a handful of people.
But I believe that Nintendo already might have that market locked down at this point. But again, I also don't think that Sony shouldn't try that since they have potential for smaller games like Astro.
Also, there is a bit of a pinch in terms of where people are putting their money right now. I think the success of Helldiver's 2, and it being $40, might have actually been a good move, if it were $70 at launch, it might've not been the breakout it is now.
Yes. Variety is definitely needed these days. Something I don't think we'll ever see again is the PS2 launch or games, or the sheer amount of games pushed through the sixth generation, a real sweet spot were the budget wasn't too extreme, and so many games coming out every month.
@sanderson72 Really just a Portable PS4 then. I'm sure that could work, they could really make it small enough close to the GPD Win 4 in specs and somewhat pocketable in size.
The Portal has still been a success, but I think people were obviously expecting something more.
@Robocrop_Duster Something I think Nintendo should copy is have their older games separately purchasable from the service... Like their Virtual Console service.
@Loamy I loved Muramasa, I have a Vita actually. I wish they did re-release it, or perhaps try and use an ancient Japan as a setting again in a future title.
Better to do something new then make sequels, personally. I feel Vanillaware has that sweet spot with their art direction and gameplay to not feel the need to keep making a second game in their lineup of IPs.
I've had a lot of fun with Dragon's Crown and 13 Sentinels in the past.
I got the demo and downloaded immediately by luck browsing the store, and I was surprised why there was no news on it here. The demo is 16.17 GB in size if anyone's wondering.
@Matroska Yeah, for some reason the game won't recognize any of my save data from the demo or INTERmission either, maybe they'll fix it in a patch?
Update: the game doesn't actually let you go skip immediately until the first fight I believe, then a prompt appears after to skip the beginning. So weird.
Smaller AA games are the better route, as least to me. So much money for the bloated development costs and key staff for those AAA games (how much return is being considered profitable for these games?), buying Bungie, and then the shift to numerous GaaS not working out as planned. If I were Totoki, I wouldn't be too happy either were I told what was being handed off to me.
@Fishnpeas I swear London Studio couldn't catch a break, first when it was Psygnosis, then Team Soho, Studio Liverpool, now this. Terrible for all those effected.

Re: Sony: It's Massively Important PS Studios Develops Games in Various Genres
@MrPeanutbutterz It's been awhile since the last Ridge Racer or a Wipeout game that wasn't a collection.
Re: Talking Point: Can PS5, PC Shooter Concord Be Saved?
I wonder how Sony might be eyeing (or more likely worrying) with FairGame$ right now.
Re: Sonic X Shadow Generations Goes Nostalgia Overload with Dreamcast-Heavy Collector's Edition

I guess the problem would be demand.
Re: Kickstarter Success Penny Blood Still Searching for Publishing Partner
Such a shame. The Wild Arms series is great.
Sony definitely needs more JRPGs in their current lineup...
Re: Frank West Voice Actor Won't Be Returning for Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster
I thought Off The Record was released in 2011? Unless we're talking about the remastering of the games.
Anyways, a great shame. It doesn't feel like the character without him.
Re: Some PSN Services Down and Offline, Sony Investigating
@ATaco Still can't believe PS Stars is still down. What exactly happened for it to be out of service for this long?
Re: Assassin's Creed Remakes Are on the Way, Ubisoft Confirms
I think only the first game (Assassin's Creed 2007) needs a remake, honestly. Didn't get ported over and didn't age quite well.
The other ones don't really need a remake, however.
Re: Legendary Zombie Game Dead Rising Gets a Second Remaster, Out in 2024
Feels really off not hearing T.J. Rotolo. I don't quite know, it's like when Snake in MGSV was replaced by Keith Sunderland...
Cool this is happening regardless.
Re: New PS5 Firmware Update Adds Full Discord Calls and More
Whatever happened to the UI update for the Explore Tab? Is it also ever coming worldwide?
Re: Hands On: They're Rough Around the Edges, But It's Awesome to Have PS2 Games Back on PS5, PS4

Money. Just Money.
Re: PlayStation Fans Are Losing Their Heads Over an Iffy Portable PS4 Rumour
I mean, with the PlayStation branding, I believe it would sell really well. I think people would like to play 2K, COD, EA sports titles, Exclusives.
Just how would it work, though, in terms of physical games?

Re: Astro Bot Is the 'Biggest' Game Team ASOBI Has Ever Made
Definitely excited for this when it is available for pre-order.
Remember, it's always been about the games, Sony. Not all about the graphics. Not all about the hardware.

Re: Astro Bot Looks Absolutely Glorious, Lands on PS5 This September
Wow this looks really great. Definitely pre-ordering.
Like I said, Sony needs AA games badly, Helldivers proved that. Just more games over graphics, personally.
I felt as if this entire showcase had been rather bland. Other than Silent Hill and Monster Hunter.

Re: Sony Invites Public to Play Insane, Massive PS5 Pinball Machine
@Decoy_Snake Actually they have. It used to be a series called Pinball Heroes. On the PSP. You can play on it on PS4/PS5 through PS+ Catalog.
Also this is really cool to see.
Re: PS5's Streaming Handheld PS Portal Is Proving a Huge Hit
@Bentleyma Vita is a great system. Best D-Pad ever, when I use any other controller or handheld there is only mushiness, no responsive clicking.
If only the DualSense picked up on that.

This will give the PS4 even longer legs.
Re: Sony Plans to Convert PC Gamers Through the Power of PlayStation
@PuppetMaster They can certainly always go back to smaller budget games like Nintendo, they're doing it with Astro, plenty of IP to do that.
