Re: Soapbox: PS Plus Might Be Gaming's Best Subscription Service Now

SilverShamrock

12 year old me with a paper route dropping up to $90 for some N64 games a quarter of a century ago couldn’t possibly relate to anyone moaning about what they get for a service that you can frequently buy for $30/yr.

If one wants a particular game so bad, buy it instead of waiting for the company to give it for “free.”

Re: Xbox Boss Admits Microsoft Can't 'Outconsole' PS5

SilverShamrock

It’s alarming how many people came away from that interview without feeling like something was off. The amount of people confusing Spencer’s “candidness” for honesty is frightening. How many times does this man have to lie to you before it sinks in?

Re: Xbox Boss Admits Microsoft Can't 'Outconsole' PS5

SilverShamrock

@Darylb88

While I don’t doubt many skipped the video, plenty of us watched it and easily saw through the same old fake sad sack routine from Spencer.

“When you’re third place in the console market place and the top two players are as strong as they are and have, um, in certain cases, very very discreet focus on doing deals and other things that will, um kind of make being Xbox hard for us as a team…”

Come on, he’s clearly making tactical statements (or what Microsoft hopes) here. Another “woe is me” claim to appear weak from a multi-trillion dollar company. Everything he said in that interview that shines an unflattering light on themselves is by design.

Spencer has been speaking from the same playbook for years. Don’t fall for that pivot in the final minutes of that interview.

Re: PS5 Pro Is '100%' Happening, Says Reliable Report

SilverShamrock

Bring it on. As gamers seem to say about almost any topic, the more options the better right?

What many are failing to realize is that there is a whole crowd out there that wants the premium experience and there is zero reason not to cater to them with a version of the console that mainly an enthusiast will care about and people who haven’t bought a PS5 yet will have a better option when jumping in.

The PS5 Pro, like the PS4 Pro, will be an optional upgrade for those who don’t want to choose between “Performance” and “Frame Rate” mode, have the disposable income for it, and care enough to begin with.

I’m thankful we’re in a newer console landscape where the Walmart bargain bin rooters can be served without sacrificing marketing premium quality to those who want it.

Much like PSVR2, this is an option to enhance the overall experience. If you don’t want any of this, great. You’ll still have a base launch console that will be supported for a decade like every PlayStation before it.

For those of us comfortable spending the cash on getting the best, I’m all for it.

Re: Scalped PS5 Prices Plummet as Retail Stock Surges

SilverShamrock

@Shad361

With everyone on their high horse and climbing over each other to cheer, it took way too long for this comment to be made. What you said is the reality. The type of scalper that the average gamer hates made their huge profits already and exited the game long ago.

Re: Consumer Spending Growth on Subscriptions Like PS Plus Is Slowing

SilverShamrock

Only have the base level of PS+ to get the discounts. I will claim, but don’t usually care about the monthly games, because I’ve already bought them. The upper tiers offer nothing for me. I would rather just own the games outright and play what I want, when I want, and not have my gaming habits dictated by what the company decides to offer at a particular time. And yeah, spare reading me the riot act for just how much I own my digital purchases.

Re: PSVR2 Sales May Actually Be Stronger Than Has Been Suggested

SilverShamrock

Yeah, I wish the gaming world would stop trying to kill off VR through self fulfilling prophecy. Even though this site has done a great job reviewing the games, they’ve still fallen prey to reporting on every fear mongering rumor out there, without providing context. I see the context listed here with the sales of PSVR1 finally, but where was it a couple of weeks back?

To be honest, I’m kind of sick of everyone else without the headset even commenting on it.

Re: Resident Evil 4 Fans Aren't Exactly Thrilled with Microtransactions on PS5, PS4

SilverShamrock

@Cherip-the-Ripper

Think on this for more than a second. Some games are more expensive to make than others. Some companies are bigger than others. Some games are made by teams larger than others. Not every game is created under equal conditions.

And most of all, the big games help pay for the other games that are riskier, will make less money, and may simply be flat out losers. The difference has to be made up somewhere.

Re: Resident Evil 4 Fans Aren't Exactly Thrilled with Microtransactions on PS5, PS4

SilverShamrock

Gamers are so clueless and out of touch with reality. The people spending money on micro transactions are subsidizing your gaming and keeping you from whining about games being $120 if they kept up with inflation over the past few decades.

Factor in this game keeping that old $60 price tag, and yes releasing Mercenaries Mode and presumably Separate Ways without an additional price tag, tactical move or not, AND eventually VR mode at no extra cost (as well as VR for Village being free), what are you all complaining about?

Gaming is still a luxury hobby. Games are more expensive to make than ever. Moves like this, which no one is forcing one to partake in, are ways to keep it more affordable for everyone to enjoy.

Re: Rumour: Sony's Allegedly Cut PSVR2 Production Plan by 20% in 2023

SilverShamrock

@rakghoul

The update for Resident Evil 4 Remake VR, what will be a free add on to the game that came out two weeks ago, is that they’ve just begun work on it. I wouldn’t expect it until early 2024.

Astrobot in any fashion has been a surprising no show.

Otherwise, the lineup is nuts and I say this because I’ve played almost every game for it so far. Even stuff you might not normally think twice about like Zombieland is some of the most fun I’ve ever had in the realm of gaming.

Re: Rumour: Sony's Allegedly Cut PSVR2 Production Plan by 20% in 2023

SilverShamrock

What’s with gaming media trying to kill VR before it can get going? Constantly reporting on rumors that make little sense when one stops for even a moment to think about them.

It’s a premium product that can only be purchased from Sony directly. I don’t buy for a second that they thought they would sell 2 million units in the first month of release when it took PSVR1 10 months to sell a million.

Yet gaming media insists on doing everything they can to bury it before it even gains traction. Self fulfilling prophecy so they can be right I guess.

It’s a terrific piece of tech with an incredible fun and large library of games already. Honestly, shame on this site for adding another negative voice to unsubstantiated rumors.

Re: Resident Evil 4 (PS5) - A True Masterpiece Made Even Better

SilverShamrock

@LeeHarveyOzgod

I’m never going to understand the anti-remake crowd. There are more games that get released today than I can possibly hope to ever play. We’re in a literal golden age of gaming where there is a ton of variety, at our fingertips, and usually on discount quick. In my 30+ years of gaming, it has never been better to me than it is right now. New games, remakes, indie games, retro styled games, VR games, etc. Remakes are not stopping new games from coming out.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Essential Games for March 2023?

SilverShamrock

I’m fine with anything really. I’m from a generation of gaming where spending $30 a year (I think most of commenting buy PS+ at a discount online) to get “free” games each month is still mind boggling to me even though I’ve been a part of it all every step of the way since the late NES. I guess nothing seems that bad when I remember buying N64 games for $60-$80 a pop 25 years ago.

That being said, I have Plus for the discounts. I buy all my games and sometimes the monthly games fills in the gaps I missed or haven’t gotten to yet.

I already own Code Vein outright and Battlefield is another I’ll claim and almost certainly never play.

It’s all gravy for me. Can see why many get upset, but I guess I use Plus differently than most because I just buy what I want instead of hoping it eventually comes to the service at some unknown point.

Re: Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty (PS5) - Excellent Action RPG a Must Play for Masochists

SilverShamrock

@KaijuKaiser

I’m right there with you. I’ve looked forward to this game for years based off its visuals and art direction and the pedigree of the team. With Hogwarts and PSVR 2 at the moment and RE4 Remake coming in the pipeline, I may not get it right off the bat, but certainly going to buy and support. Would feel grimy to consume it as meaningless junk food on GamePass, if I even bothered to buy a Series X to begin with. There’s some games to certain people that are no brainers to buy and for me, this is one of them.

Re: Resident Evil 4 Fronts Game Informer Issue, New Gameplay Revealed

SilverShamrock

@neonpizza

Doubt they’ll do either of those.

5 is not beloved and the first one I remember hearing a ton of complaints about once released. I really loved it at the time because it fine-tuned the mechanics of 4 and Mercenaries remained addictive. I revisited it within the last year or two and thought I beat it, I was surprised how dull I found it. You didn’t mention it, but 6 will be resoundingly ignored as well.

Code Veronica is terrific, but they’ve ignored it as much as they could over the years so I’m not hopeful that will change, particularly since they jumped right to 4 in the remake plans.

I think 4 will be the last remake in the series for the foreseeable future, unless they consider a new remake of the original since the Gamecube remake has already been out for 20 years, but that seems doubtful too since they started this all with redoing 2.

Re: Sony's MLB The Show 23 Costs $70 on PS5, Nothing on Xbox Game Pass

SilverShamrock

@Juanalf

Because not every gamer is the same. Some people only buy this game or any of the other sports games and that’s entirely what they play for the whole year until the next release. They’re only spending the asking price and that’s what they allocate to their yearly gaming budget because that’s worth it to them and all they care about playing.

Re: Beloved Classics Will Comprise PS Plus Premium Catalogue

SilverShamrock

Not expecting much to be honest. I don’t know why, assuming the person is a functioning adult, there is this feverish desire to have a company pre-select one’s gaming habits.

I’ve seen it with Plus and Gold, and of course GamePass, and now with whatever Premium ends up being. Some will only play what these companies curate for them.

It’s such a waste of time and energy to “hope” your favorite games make the cut. Time and energy is more important than money. Create your own collection that can’t be taken from you on a whim if you crave to play titles from the past so badly.

And finally, trophy hunters, just swallow the bitter pill now instead of waiting until June and beyond. There is zero chance that these retro games get outfitted with them.

Re: Sony's Cloud Streamed PS3 Games Are Causing a Storm on Social Media

SilverShamrock

As much as I dream about the ultimate PlayStation system that has the ability to play its vast history, I’m resigned to the fact that I’m probably always going to have my PS3 hooked up in addition to whatever their latest console happens to be. Ideally, the industry would care more about game preservation, but in comparison to films, books, music, any form of art, it’s a very young and immature industry. You can tell because one of the top upvoted comments on this article calls people who want it “absolute losers”.

In the end, if you really want to play those games, it’s best to rely on yourself for them, rather than fruitlessly waiting for full backwards compatibility or paying yet another service for a half baked solution.

People keep saying there’s only a few games worth playing that are left to remaster/release/remake from the PS3 era of gaming, but that’s only true if you play only the most mainstream critically acclaimed stuff exclusively.

Best to just buy a PS3 if you don’t still have one and collect and play what you want at your leisure. No matter how weird someone might try to make you feel by playing “out of date” games, do what’s good for you.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin?

SilverShamrock

If it was a dry gaming season, I would definitely have picked it up. After immediately shelving Horizon 2 and Dying Light 2 for Elden Ring and then revisiting some PS3 gaming, I don’t have the time or desire for it right now.

But I’ll certainly add it to the collection at a later date. The connection to the first FF on NES and Garland really interests me.

Re: The Quarry Is a $70 PS5 Title from Supermassive Games

SilverShamrock

I devour horror content, so this is easily day one for me. They’re catering to people like me bringing in horror veterans like Arquette and Shaye and I doubt they’re getting paid dollar store prices that so many gamers seem to expect in their insatiable need to play every single game out there for bargain bin price tags.

People have the right to pay the price they feel comfortable paying, but this fight about $70 games is getting old. I frequently paid $70-$80 for N64 games in the mid to late 90s as a 12-15 year old with a paper route. That’s the equivalent of $120-$140 today, so I can’t really relate to the constant moaning of a $10 increase for some games so far. Is the gaming industry supposed to be immune to ever more costly development and inflation?

Again, there’s so many games out there, I wait to get that super discount as well (which also occur WAY more quickly and frequently than games of the past). But when it’s something I want right away, $70 is nothing and is usually quite fair. Factor in all the DLC if you want and gaming is still more affordable with more choices than ever.

Re: Elden Ring Easy Mode Isn't Happening on PS5, PS4

SilverShamrock

@Shredderlovespizza

If people would take the hint and realize the game is not for them instead of asking incessantly for changes to a game that are not going to happen, the studio wouldn’t have to answer these questions so much. They don’t come out unprovoked.

It’s as irrational as me coming to any other series of games that are popular, well regarded, and have sold millions of copies and having the gall to ask them to change for ME.

Re: Elden Ring Easy Mode Isn't Happening on PS5, PS4

SilverShamrock

@Shredderlovespizza

FromSoftware must be pretty happy with their sales that only keep increasing regardless.

Seems like they have the best of both worlds. They can make the game they want to make and there’s enough people who love them as is to support them. Why chase an audience you don’t want? Why does every game have to the equivalent of the dollar store?

No, the tired argument is spinning Souls players as elitist, gatekeeping, and selfish because they meet one of the few games out there like this on its terms.

Amusing how few will say that the crowd clamoring for changes are actually the ones deserving of critique. They are the ones who are self-centered, selfish, sef-serving, entitled, and so on because they want these games to morph into every other game out there for them.

Also baffling that some fellow players don’t understand the game already has built in difficulty levels.

Countless other games out there to play and choices available, but these ones have to change because people can’t manage their fomo?

Re: Elden Ring Easy Mode Isn't Happening on PS5, PS4

SilverShamrock

@MiaowMinx

“It seems to me that people who complain that they "need" games to not have difficulty settings should be trying to overcome the 'hardship' of developing the basic self-control required to not choose an easier setting when it's available.”

Similar can be said for you.

You should be trying to overcome the ‘hardship’ of developing the basic self-control required to not play every game out there just because it is available to you.

Re: Elden Ring Easy Mode Isn't Happening on PS5, PS4

SilverShamrock

I’ve never really understood this debate. I’ve noticed the vocal crowd who want difficulty modes or something to make the game more digestible (always falling back on “real life commitments” in an attempt to tell people that they are more important than you or when that fails, think of the crowd with disabilities who can’t play this game)…these people are much more selfish and self serving than the so-called elite gatekeepers who play FromSoftware titles for what they are offering and are not asking them to change.

FromSoftware makes the games they want to make and there’s enough players who want to play the games they make to support this style of artistry.

Believe it or not, people don’t need to play every game that is out there.

There are very few games like these, even when factoring in the clones and homages. Why should they have to change to cater to a player who is not their audience? It is a very fellow American mindset. “I want to experience another country but I won’t take the time to learn even the basics of that language.”

There are thousands upon thousands of games that offer what every naysayer complains about. Go or keep playing those instead.

Re: Outriders (PS5) - Great Combat? That's a People Can Fly Game

SilverShamrock

I’ve put in thousands of hours into Destiny 1 and 2 and the Gears of War series, which this seems like a mashup of. Then there’s the time spent with the first Division to consider.

The demo for this felt stale and dated and I think I’ve put too much time into past similar games for me to ever care about this one. It feels extremely played out and only some of that is personal.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Games for April 2021?

SilverShamrock

I honestly subscribe for the additional discounts on games, so everything else is gravy for me.

I also come from a generation where paying $25-$30 a year and getting up to 50 games, no matter the quality, was not remotely a thing, so I’m a little biased and probably more easily pleased.

I own most of the titles already whenever we get them each month, but I think the service has been especially strong on that front lately. Days Gone is a great game. It doesn’t bother me that I paid $20 to own it outright. Same thing with Control Ultimate Edition. Or $60 to own FFVII Remake on Day One.

Objectively, there are some great games hitting over the last few months. How can anyone still complain?

Looking forward to trying Zombie Army 4.

Re: PS5 PlayStation Store Finally Has a Deals Section

SilverShamrock

@hulkie

I would move on from hoping for that (I did and I loved many of the dynamic themes on PS4).

When they first revealed the PS5 UI, it was clear that dynamic/static/personal themes were finished.

Thinking otherwise will just raise minor disappointment for the next 5 years.

Re: Poll: Do You Have a PS5?

SilverShamrock

Few days after launch for me.

As for the second question in the poll, I don’t really expect people to easily walk into any store and be able to purchase until early 2022.

During normal launches, you usually can’t purchase at will until a few months later (March or so). With the pandemic and everything that comes with how 2020 played out and into 2021, I don’t see how it doesn’t get extended past that.

Then before we know it, there’s going to be the mad scramble for an already coveted item going into this fall and the holidays.

Re: Resident Evil 4 Remake Targets 2023 Launch After Development Reboot, Says New Report

SilverShamrock

Man, you really can’t please anyone can you? I don’t understand why some people are complaining about any of these getting remade, as if it’s at the expense of brand new entries in the franchise. I like the approach because Capcom is still giving us new titles in the mean time.

Think about it. After the disastrous RE6 almost killed the series, we’ve gotten RE7 (new style for the series), RE 2 and 3 (remakes), and in 4 months, we’re getting RE8 (just the second game in the new style). Then in possibly two years, the RE 4 remake. Two games built entirely from scratch and 3 remakes that will have released in a 6 year time frame.

What’s the problem? We’re literally getting the best of both worlds and it’s happening in a timely fashion. I prefer it more than when they remade the first game and then merely ported 2, 3, and Code Veronica to the GameCube while waiting for the original Resident Evil 4.

And get prepared for another Resident Evil 1 remake before the decade is over. Both the original and the remake are brilliant, but you’re crazy if you think they’re not going to make another just because a remake came out in 2002. That’s already 19 years ago (so 21 years old once the RE 4 remake drops).

It remains an astonishingly beautiful game and plays well, but I’ll happily play a new version built from the ground up on PS5 hardware.

Re: Soapbox: 2021 Is the Year to Tackle Your Backlog, Because So Many Games Are Going to Be Delayed

SilverShamrock

People take having a back log way too seriously.

Play and complete the game you have before buying the next one. Problem solved if it’s something you worry about so much.

I’ve had a backlog for 10-15 years. It literally doesn’t matter. I could have all the free time in the world and it would never be enough because that’s how good games are now.

Games can be absolutely ruined if I feel like I “have” to stop my experience with them before I’m ready to for an arbitrary reason like checking some box on my play list.

Re: Soapbox: PS5's Pad Has Made All Other Controllers Feel Ancient

SilverShamrock

Spot on. I’ve used virtually every controller from the NES to present day and I feel the same way.

For me, the 360 controller was the king and I felt they took a step backwards with the One controller while the DS4 was a big step forward that closed the gap.

The DualSense is the best controller I’ve ever gamed on, it fixed the few flaws of the DS4, and makes me unlikely to stray outside the Sony ecosystem this generation.

Re: PS Store January Sale Starts Tomorrow, Promises 'Huge Savings'

SilverShamrock

@Rhaoulos

They’re trying to help you out. So you don’t like Apple. Do you have a browser? Great. PSDeals.net also has a website that is just as easy to navigate.

It’s not uncommon for someone else to create a solution to something that the corporation is lacking.

One can either wring their hands and complain about the big company not having it or they can use a widely available resource to fix their “problem” that is far better than anything any of these companies could be bothered to offer.

I can promise you that neither company will ever have a feature that tracks price history. It’s one thing to not know about the site, but it’s another to smack it away like it wasn’t the best solution to your dilemma.

Re: Poll: What Is Your PS5 and PS4 Game of the Year 2020?

SilverShamrock

Absolutely stacked year.

I chose Astro, Demon’s Souls, FFVII Remake, Miles Morales, and The Last of Us Part II.

A few caveats. Doom was incredible, haven’t played Ghosts of Tsushima yet, and it’s too early to tell with Cyberpunk.

Also loved the remake of Resident Evil 3. It’s short like the original and like the original, I’ll probably play through it multiple times which makes the $20 price tag more than worth it.

Have played or am interested in many on this overall list and I think 2020 was fantastic overall.
