@Far_Cide yep utter utter garbage. I would love 2K games and/or Sega Sports to start doing NFL/NHL/NBA again. The Sega sports range on Saturn was actually really really good. I loved NHL Allstar Hockey and World Series Baseball, incredible sports sims.

I assume the same will happen with the equally bad NHL and FIFA franchises that haven’t evolved for the last 8 years

@Ajhutchinson I’ve now played Horizon Zero Dawn.
It is crap.
Action sections, very well made.
However, the story is “meh”, the in game graphic engine is just standard with a misleading cut scene engine to compensate. (Still employing this tactic in this day and age is pathetic)
The amount of talking, talking, talking, talking is excruciating. It makes a 30 hour completion around 18 hours watching NPCs talk and at best, only 12 hours of you actually doing anything. So goddamn boring and disappointing after it started so well.

But it’s all flash and misdirection to appeal to the general PlayStation fanboy mob and it worked yet again.

I wonder if an improvement will be to overhaul the disgusting in game graphic engine. This is yet ANOTHER middle of the road PlayStation game with a standard graphic engine in-game that then employs a totally different engine for talking/cut scenes to lead you believe you’re playing something better looking than you really are. A trademark tactic employed since Final Fantasy on PS1.
I was quite impressed with this game for the first few hours till I slowly realised the HUGE amount of talking face to face with NPCs it had. It was more like playing heavy rain for 60% of the game. Interspersed with a well constructed action sections. The problem is, the pacing is just all over the place and it goes from 100mpg action to a literally stand still while you spend what is literally hours, talking, talking, talking, talking.

This line up is as abysmal as the PS4 launch line up.

This exactly why the PS5 is not needed. If cost are going up, that means you’re bringing the technology too early.
Nobody wants to be paying £60 for a single video game, it’s ridiculous. It doesn’t even bring you a better game or better experience. It’s all just so hardware manufacturers can advertise better graphics and trick graphics whores into shelling out new hardware again.
The PS4 Pro and XBox One X are absolutely fine for current console gaming and do not need improving on yet until somebody offers something that genuinely warrants a never generation console.

The console market is slowly turning into the graphics card market for PC gaming and it’s ridiculous. You don’t replace the entire hardware and peripheral set up just to squeeze more graphics out of a name which I my forcing the price of development up anyway that inevitably passes all the cost onto the gamer.

It’s disgusting.

@Wavey84 the PS2 and PS4 were garbage. The PS2 was like a PS1.5 and the PS4 was more like a PS3.5.

The market is becoming too hardware focused and now following mobile phone market. Encouraging an upgrade when one isn’t needed. Sales driving next generation as opposed to technology advancements offering next generation gaming.

The NES to SNES was an unbelievable leap in hardware capability.
SNES to N64 was a HUGE leap that first gave the world true navigable 3D worlds
N64/PS1 to GameCube/PS2 again was a good leap but less groundbreaking
PS2 to PS3 was next gen and was Sony’s high point, bringing with it everything that makes console gaming what it is today.
PS3 to PS4 was pointless, added nothing and was purely about money rather than adding to the experience and offering next generation technology.
PS3 to PS5 is a single generational step. PS4 was just a reboot, it was just Sony rinsing everyone again while offering you sod all, over what you already had.

@Wavey84 I endlessly resented the XBox for the death of the Dreamcast. 3 consoles was fine, as soon as there were 4, one was going to suffer. The XBox was garbage and sold nothing in terms of hardware since it’s launch. Until Splinter Cell came out and that was a death knell that just saw Dreamcast fall even further. Awesome hens were right in the wings too, we were literally minutes away from getting Half Life on Dreamcast when they pulled the plug.
The Dreamcast was so much more advanced than every other console. It brought online gaming for the first time on a global scale and for free. It did everything and looked awesome doing it. Shame too many chavs wanted GranTurismo and poor quality gore games on PS2 to care.

I remember working in game and promoting Dreamcast over PS2 as they paid too price for a PS2, with FIFA 2001 and fantavision .... and a dvd remote. We were bundling a Dreamcast with a DVD player, Shenmue, MSR, Jet Set Radio, Soul Calibur and Marvel Vs Capcom for less than the price of a PS2 with one appalling game and people still weren’t interested. It was insane to watch.

This all time classic LAUNCHED with Super Monkey Ball, Luigi’s Mansion and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. Which is ridiculous to get 3 AAA titles at launch. The proceeding 12 months saw the release of Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, Eternal Darkness, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and the Resident Evil Remake.

By this same point in time PS2 didn’t even have GTA III and XBox didn’t have the platform saving Splinter Cell.

You ever watch Tropic Thunder? Excellent nerd speech in there why the PS2 was so successful. And it is a massive fact.

I don’t plan to buy one at all u TIL the inevitable wave of remaster/definitive experience editions have stopped and the PS5 Pro/Slim is released. Buying any XBox or PS on day one if release is just a waste of time now and forever more.

@HeroYoshiko because these types of problems are into exclusive to switch. Never any issues with Xbox or PS4 controllers? Drift occurs with joy cons die to their inherent mobile natures and people not looking after them properly. They are not built to withstand the hammer of mobility; the 3ds circle pad was. This is a manufacture fault not fitting the intended use.

The Switch Pro Controller however, takes a huge dump from a significant height on every controller that’s existed before or since it was released.

THIS type of game is made for fans of the franchise and not to appeal to the gaming community. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, but definitely puts it in the mediocre category.

ALL yakuza games are mediocre. The intent behind them is massively appealing and I looked forward to them on PS3.... but they never moved on from PS2 and play in the same weightless, cumbersome and clunky fashion as the predecessors. Sega took the Shenmue build and rebadged it for Yakuza and never had the in-house talent to develop much further than the 2000 classic.

If you want a list of classic and actual good quality JRPGs then you need look further than games like, Octopath Traveller, Xenoblade Chronicles, Breath of the Wild, Dragon Quest and Fire Emblem. Dragon Quest is also on PS4.

I also never said Sony is going micro transaction, my comment was the gaming community is slowly going that way. DLC used to add to games to extend the longevity of their appeal, now they’re encumbered with the design of the game from day one as a business strategy. Sad to see.

The PS4 has a lot of exclusive games, however this list https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/explore/ps4-exclusives/ reads more like a bargain bin that a console selling list.

There are tonnes of JRPGs on Switch, not my thing, but they’re there.
Final Fantasy VII is better than the remake.
Bloodborne isn’t worth the disc it was printed on.
Persona 5 Royal is ANOTHER remaster of a PS3 game.
Yakuza 5 isn’t any different to 3 on PS3.
The rest you mentioned are mediocre at best.
It just reiterates that PS4 is the new Wii; Quantity over quality.
I hope the PS5 is better, but so far it already looks like Sony are following their pattern from PS4 which juts looks to give you the same old experience all over again and make you pay for it all over again. This is because they are a hardware manufacturer, not a software developer that makes hardware. This has been to slow death knell of gaming quality for the last 20 years. Gaming culture is dying and micro transaction graphic whorism is rife all because of Sony and Microsoft. Sony are worse than Microsoft at the moment.

God Of War 3 - was better
Spider-Man, - mediocre. Good swinging. Bad combat pales even in comparison to the original Arkham asylum.
Uncharted 4 - second worst one. This peaked at Uncharted 2.
Days Gone - meh
The Last Of Us Part II. Genuinely the stand out game of this format.
Even if you claim they are all amazing must buys - that is only 6 games out of a 7 year format run. That is abysmal.

@Col_McCafferty red dead 2 is utter dog dirt and the epitome of pointless graphic driven gaming we’ve come to expect from Rockstar and unfortunately, infinitely and endlessly superior in every way on XBox One X. Clamouring first this game on PS4, is like the people who went on and on about Street Fighter II on mega drive without ever realising how much of a poor version it was compared to every other format.
Last of Us 2 however? Is incredible.

PS4 has been waiting for a genuine exclusive of this calibre since it launched 7 years ago. Worst library of exclusive titles of any format, ever.

At least it got to finish on a high note before it replaces itself. Everybody.... look forward to “The Last of Us 2: Remastered” on PS5, this time next year and other such titles that warrants buying a PS5........?

I HAVE a PS4, I play PS4, that’s where my opinion that it is garbage has come from. The PS3 was awesome. The 4?..... not so much. They should have missed 4 and released 5 last year as the 4.

Did you mean Persona 5 the PS3 game ported for PS4 to help sales? 😂 😂 not exactly a PS4 exclusive is it, the same as The Last of Us isn’t.

The switch is a better platform than PS4, it is seriously one of the best designed pieces of gaming hardware I’ve ever seen. And that despite the fact it misses out on a tonne of third party support. I own and play all three and the Switch just is the best gaming hardware out of the 3. XBox One X is the best hardware to play high end multi format third party games and PS4 is the best place to play Spider-Man and Last of Us 2.

Microsoft also ballsed any chance of overriding success with the XBox One when they attended that E3 and told everyone the new XBox one would come with a Kinect that the CIA would have full access to. That bombshell knackered them and lost consumer confidence for over 2 years and gave Sony an unbelievable head start. Truth be told, neither machine offered anything worth playing for at least the first three years, but you always get gadget whores needing to be seen to own the latest gadget.

In the short term... neither are worth buying. Hardware wise, they just aren’t needed or provide any significant generational upgrade over the Pro and One X.

In addition to this, we will just get continued remasters for the first 2 years again and twin releases where the vast majority of all AAA titles will also be released on Pro and X.

I won’t even be looking to buy one till probably year 3 when the inevitable bug fixed, better design, more power, smaller model comes out. Who’s still got and plays the original 4 or One?

@playstation_king I genuinely believe the Switch has been the surprise stand out console this format. It suffers massively from missing out in the big name multi format games. But terms of quality volume that isn’t available anywhere else, it is ridiculous. PS4 and XBox are both weak in terms of exclusives, always have. They are hardware manufacturers, not gaming companies, so it always comes down to power and controller. I was PS4, then left when they jacked up the PS+ price. Got an XBox one X and it was the first console that felt like an actual generation up from the PS3 so multi format games became a bonus again.

Only problem is that the XBox controller is garbage and after nearly 3 years I’m back playing PS4. The hardware is just noticeably a LOT weaker. The total if playable multi format outweigh the exclusives on either machine, and they are all categorically better on XBox One X. But ideal world, get all three.

@playstation_king you’re missing the point. EVERY console has exclusives, I’m talking about ones worth playing that are genuinely good games. I went through that list you posted to pull out the stand out system sellers.... there are very few. Most are watered down sequels to franchise that peaked long ago. If you want to start reaching and extend that list with the likes of everybody’s golf, chimparty and ALL of the PS3 game remasters because it makes you feel better be my guest. PS4 is weak and always has been. It has lost out massively in terms of quality it can put out when it has superior release as an option on XBox One. The hardware is better, the interface is better, the operating system is better. But both formats are weak on exclusives.

If you can only afford 1 console, you’d have to buy an XBox One X.
If you can afford 2, get an XBox ONE X and a Switch.
If you can afford all, definitely get all.

The only part that PS4 trumps the XBox One X is the quality of the controller. And even they both lose out to the Switch Pro Controller by a mile. If I could use that pad for PS4 and XBox, I would.

I’m not saying you’re wrong. It’s your opinion, same as my opinion is mine. The only issue is, your ID handle leads me to believe your “opinion” might be slightly biased toward PlayStation.

@playstation_king to be fair, THE best format for volume of actual quality AAA exclusives is the Nintendo Switch. First party and indie. The number of exclusives worth playing on PS4 or XBox one is minimal and probably no higher than 5 for any one person. The size of the Exclusive content library on switch is the main selling point. When it comes to cross format you pick Xbox or PS4 and the PS4 loses every time to Xbox.

@johnny30 I didn’t bother with Xbox one. I moved from PS4 to XBox One X and it blows the 4 and the Pro out of the water. As for games. Every single multi format game is way superior on X and it is just better hardware. The number of exclusives worth playing on PS4 is minimal at best. The best saving grace of PS4 is the Xbox controller is just dire and the PS4 has a better quality controller

@Redman35 cuphead is ****ing awesome. Literally one of the best games of this console generation along with Katana Zero. I can’t believe neither of these are on PS4.
