Well, this is just phenomenal. Musician Roshan Maloney has performed a perfect rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah – using Ellie’s in-game guitar as the backing track. He performs the song on the DualShock 4, using a combination of the left analogue stick and touchpad – it’s seriously impressive stuff.
Creative director Neil Druckmann commented on the performance on Twitter: “Are you f*cking kidding me?! So good!” It’s not the first cover performance that’s been created using The Last of Us 2’s main minigame, but it’s arguably the best so far. Expect more like this to emerge in the coming months.

I've been waiting for someone to start making covers!
This is the only spoiler video I'll watch for TLOU2 until I eventually get around to playing both games in the next few years!
Love the song, the guy seems to enjoy it too.
I think I prefer Jeff Buckley's version to leanord Cohen's though!
Amazing, thank you.
@Icey664 same, as soon as I knew you could play the guitar in game, it was only a matter of time before covers started popping up!
@Grimwood It's definitely up there.
That is mighty impressive.
And all I can do is randomly play some notes I can't recognizes... 😭
Love this. Knew crazy talented people would be doing amazing things with the guitar in this game.
I can't hear that song anymore without hearing How they rule ya.
@ApostateMage Not really. I wanna see some Megadeath Last of Us 2 acoustic covers or no deal. xD
I realised the other day that the Pearl Jam song Joel plays game out in 2013, so it means (a) in real world terms it came out the same year as TLoU1 (b) in in-game terms it would've been one of the last songs ever released before the world ended meaning it's both one of the latest songs yet also an old 20 year old classic, and (c) it actually makes sense Joel would like Pearl Jam since he was presumably 30 or so in the first game (he says he didn't go to uni as Sarah was born before he could, meaning he was about 17 or 18 at that time and she's about 12 or 13) meaning he's pretty much my age and got into music around the same time. Also there's a poster for the album it's from in the Seattle music shop.
So basically, not only do the lyrics really fit the characters, it works in a lot of other ways too. 👍
Seriously impressive
One word... Awesome
@Dezzy70 No spoilers please.
Incredible and very talented
That's seriously impressive, by and large I feel the touch pad has been underutilised this generation but we get great results when it is used
@Jayofmaya I would love Ellie to get her bloody hands on a lecy guitar, hook up one those amps and speakers I saw in an electric store and kill everything with thrash metal.
@ralphdibny the jeff Buckley version is one the of the greatest vocal performances of all time. Not only is the performance amazing but the recording itself is amazing. Not processed. Raw and emotional as it should be
@zimbogamer yeah he really was one of the greats!
@Octane
Sorry was not thinking straight.
Won’t happen again.
He’s singing and performing the Jeff Buckley version
@ApostateMage Haha Inspired by Brutal Legend xD
