So God of War and Horizon were 2nd and 3rd place for game of the year after Elden Ring, but Stray wins best playstation game? I'd like to understand the logic there.
In reality, both Elden Ring and God of War will likely each snag loads of game of the year awards. Unless we are counting Geoff Keighley's show as having the final say, which I don't see why that would be the case.
What's with the sudden increase of people asking Xbox-related questions on this site? I've noticed it in the last few days. No, Push Square is not going to go into details on how the game runs on Xbox, this should be obvious.
@SplooshDmg I would have expected to agree with you, but I tried them out recently in Like a Dragon, and they're surprisingly great! I'll likely be sticking with them going forward. It's kind of nice not to have to play close attention to the subtitles.
I'll watch these shows if they happen to be during my workday, but like the Ubisoft one, there's no way in hell I'm dedicating any of my weekend to these extended commercials.
@PegasusActual93 One thing worth nothing that I'm really surprised this review didn't mention is that this game has difficulty options. If you're having a lot of trouble with a certain section, you can even make it so that enemies do 0 damage
@Royalblues It would really be a shame to see someone miss out on the Trails series because you think it's too late. I started with Cold Steel and only later decided to check out the older games.
Overall, I thought it was pretty good. Most of the trailers actually had some gameplay. Nothing worse than the all CG game reveals (are these games or movies?). When Dead Island 2 is your big end of show game, though, you can tell that this wasn't a show full of heavy hitters.
So I guess I clearly should have waited... 3 years before playing this one. What the heck, why is a short metroidvania being treated like a live service game?
@shadow2k So you want every game to have the exact same realistic artstyle? Sounds pretty boring to me. I'm not interested in this game, but the artstyle definitely makes it stand out.
This will give me a good reason to try this out again. Couldn't get into it the first time I tried. Flying around felt so clunky and the visuals were kind of unappealing.
@Sil_Am There are plenty of indies on Switch, but not PS. Here's just a few of the more notable ones: Inmost, Everhood, Unavowed, Eastward, Steel Assault, The Legend of Tian Ding, Dark Deity, Panzer Paladin
@themightyant It's really not multiple playthroughs, and I hate how the game has been described this way, because it misleads people, like in your case. Okay, there are sort of two playthroughs, but they're very unique. After those two are done, it's all new content from there.
@djlard It's my least favourite trend of modern games right now. Every cool-looking indie, I have to check first to see if it's a roguelike, before I get too interested.
1. God of War Ragnarok
2. The Callisto Protocol
3. Last of Us Part 1
4. Crisis Core
5. Digimon Survive
6. Monochrome Mobius
7. Evil West
8. Valkyrie Elysium
9. Trails from Zero
10. Midnight Suns
@TeapotBuddha It was received well pretty much everywhere other than this site, so now of course Push Square will always refer to it as a disappointing game, despite the general reception.
@AFCC easy solution would be not to buy games at launch. I don't think I've bought a single game at launch in the last 10 years. You might even save a bit of money
Hoping that Observer: System Redux will be included. It was annoying that there was no upgrade path for those that already purchased the original Observer
@DETfaninATL That's odd. I've been playing for 30+ hours and I feel like maybe 5% or less of my time has been in dialogue. Are you playing only the main story or something? There are tons of sidequests all over the place that are very action-focused.
@RubyCarbuncle, I agree. It's cool that this exists, but with my limited gaming time, time that I spend playing this board game, is time that I'm not exploring the world, fighting robot dinosaurs, and enjoying the story. It was the same for me with The Witcher 3, Trails of Cold Steel, etc.

Re: One Piece Odyssey Looks Like a PS5, PS4 Must Play for JRPG Fans

All the other One Piece games are trash, or just, like, all videogames in general?

Re: As Long As There's PlayStation, Call of Duty Will Release on It
If Call of Duty is day one on gamepass, but not on ps+, that will have almost the same impact as COD being Xbox-exclusive, imo

Any media that depicts religion as the fantasy stories that they are is fine by me

Re: Feudal Japan Yakuza Spinoff Like a Dragon: Ishin! Is Finally Coming West in February 2023
The "Like a Dragon" name had me worrying that this was going to be turn-based, but good to see it's the old beat em up combat

Re: Armed Fantasia and Penny Blood Smash Kickstarter Stretch Goal, Officially Coming to PS5

Sony doesn't seem to have much interest in JRPGs these days, or anything really, that could be considered somewhat niche

Looks like it could be an enjoyable movie.. Oh that was a game trailer?

Deathloop is rumored to be coming to Xbox within the next couple of months. That could hardly be considered "years"
Re: Rollerdrome (PS5) - Just As Good As Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
@shadow2k
that's... not at all what I said, but ok
Re: Rollerdrome (PS5) - Just As Good As Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
@shadow2k
That's just unrealistic. Only a tiny percentage of studios have the budget needed to push the system.
Re: All-Time Low Prices in New PS Store Bethesda Sale
tempting, but as soon as Deathloop and Ghostwire come to xbox, they're going to be on gamepass day 1, so I'll continue waiting
Re: Mini Review: Thymesia (PS5) – A Poor Take on the Souls-Like Formula
wow, took a look at opencritic, and the reception is very very mixed. Scores all the way from 8.5 to 3/10

I had assumed it was from the same devs of Golf Story based on the name. guess not

Re: Digimon Survive (PS4) - Darker Digimon Story Carries Some Flat RPG Elements
How does this compare to the Utawarerumono series, as far as the division between visual novel and battle segments? Something like 70/30, 60/40?

They seem almost embarrassed to admit that this is a turn-based strategy game. Watching this video, you would think it's straight action

I'm seeing it's at a 66 on opencritic. Not sure I'd agree that it's "received well", but may be worth a look.

3. Last of Us Part 1
4. Crisis Core
5. Digimon Survive
6. Monochrome Mobius
7. Evil West
8. Valkyrie Elysium

10. Midnight Suns

Re: Mini Review: MADiSON (PS5) - Just Another PS4 Era Horror Game
@nico013 While it is an outlier for sure, this is the writer's opinion, so to say it's "not very accurate" doesn't make sense
Re: Mini Review: MADiSON (PS5) - Just Another PS4 Era Horror Game
Wow, Push Square is really starting to stand out for all the outlier reviews. This is getting 8s and 9s from most outlets
