Re: PS5 Pro System Seller Assassin's Creed Shadows Will Get a Big Upgrade

OldGamer999

The game has a lot going on but even on Pro with TAA at 60fps VRR on, there is definitely fizz when panning around on certain foliage and the bamboo and jaggies.
Again like other games it is in the mid distance, seems to be a thing.

Being an image perfectionist would’ve be great if PSSR would get rid of this and give a perfect clean mid distance panning around image, when it gets implemented.

I think it happens with TAA and trying to upscale things from a low resolution, I think 1080p in this case.

When you do the same with same HFW burning shores there is no fizz, and we all know that is because of the incredible game engine and developed upscaling owned by the developer and I think the 60ps higher starting resolution of about 1800p.

Many disagree with me on this but if you can achieve a high graphical level of say Assassins creed shadows at 60fps with pure native 4K, then the fizz and jaggies are not there.

Anyway apart from all that, great game and really enjoying.

It is what it is a no one owes anyone anything but, Sony don’t even have to try anymore.

PS5 up on PS4 worldwide, Sony making more profits than with PS4 according to their financial results. Sony releasing less games than PS4 era, big AAA campaign games and now have more PSN members.
Sonys main competition not really selling consoles that much and now even releasing games on PlayStation.
Sony loving the results.

This is why I wish Xbox have taken it to Sony and given them some good competition.

OldGamer999

I’m glad someone else said there is not much difference from the quality to balanced, like 10fps.
I always try all the modes but quality to balanced from a frame rate and blurry point of view when panning around is not that different.

Now 60fps wait a difference so smooth when panning a lot less panning blur and definitely the way to play.

Shall be playing performance 60fps VRR, PS5 Pro.

@Mikey856
Christ let’s hope Microsoft don’t go all console exclusive. I would definitely miss some games if that happens. Doom is a good example maybe elder scrolls 6 if it’s a really good AAA.
Even the smaller games like Avowed and possibly south of midnight which seem to be exclusive so far would be good on PS5.

The problem being honest is not Microsoft’s but is Sonys. They need to get their act together and now hopefully the terrible GAAS is behind them they get back on it and maybe also look at some studio purchases.

I mean what have Bungie done since Sony took them.

@Cornpop76
Yes the internet and gamers expectations have a lot to answer for this generation.

Sometimes I think but I don’t like it, Sony and Nintendo have the right idea. They just release the game with little previews and sort of say here you go have a try at this, like Astro Bot I think came out of nowhere really.

Will be interesting if nothing else to see the reviews of Assassins creed shadows next Tuesday, then Atomfall and south of Midnight. All games that have had some preview time and some hype to a degree.

Yes Avowed at the moment not half way through yet is a good 8/10 so far for me.

@heavyartillery56
Yes I think you have summed it up really.
God knows why it took them so long.
They definitely should have focused more on plot and story and created more major planets and got rid of that procedural stuff they did with some planets.
It felt like an old generation game in some ways for sure.

Re: Ex-Xbox System Seller Starfield Edges Ever Closer to PS5

OldGamer999

It’s not the greatest of games, some get into it.
Somehow I ended up putting in 60 hours and I don’t know where the time went, so it’s a strange game in that way.
The fps mechanics were good and the idea of the game is good.

It’s more its implementation and what seems like aging systems and UI sets that really let it down. In one way the game engine is clever in others it seems old and sluggish.

For me a love / hate type game relationship.
Have not played it for ages and once I stopped never thought of going back.

I did try it again after all the patches and adding the buggy 🛺 , made some improvements but not enough really.

It scored higher than say a game like Avowed by a few points, but I playing Avowed now and it really is a great game and worth more then Starfield to me. And would pay for Avowed but not Starfield. Of course I used game pass ultimate.

Anyway that is my honest take on Starfield.

I’m simple trying to be truthful with what I see on my TV, what more can I say.
And the settings that seem to work for me at 60fps etc to create the best picture with less fizz when panning in certain aspects and object in the game.

I cannot make it more simple and clearer than that.
I tried to give a mature scientific answer about using different TVs, monitors as a potential reason.
But that seems to have by passed you biased mind.

Re: PS5 Pro's Graphics Will Get Even Better in 2026

OldGamer999

@Titntin
He is more than welcome to come round as well and show me on my TV. 🤣
The only scientific thing I can think of is the screen/TV or monitor they test on is probably a lot different to a 65” A95L and maybe different processing used by the devices themselves. As I know my A95L even makes 480p TV look half good and the Switch console as well.

And if I turn certain features on the TVs own AI upscaling tech it can almost get a PS5 game looking like a Pro game to a degree.

All smoke and mirrors and artificial and AI processing, the world we live in.
That’s the only thing I can think of.

Re: PS5 Pro's Graphics Will Get Even Better in 2026

OldGamer999

@Titntin
The last of us one and two on PS5 Pro and changing the settings are my own and that is what I see on my Sony A95L. Better with PSSR not used but using performance mode, FRA rate unlocked and VRR.
I would love to have you round and show you this, then you would go, yeah look no shimmering now when panning around in the grass and in fencing.

As for HFW burning shores, simply probably the best looking game on the Pro my own experience which as you know does not use PSSR, but their upscaling I guess

It is as simple as that and that what I see when changing settings on my TV, with those to games only.

Re: Rumour: Next-Gen Xbox a 'PC in Essence' - What Would That Mean for PlayStation?

OldGamer999

The thing Xbox has is game pass ultimate and I guess that is their thing that is different to Sony and Nintendo.
And of course with the lack of games to start with has I think stagnated sales.
However if you go from late 2024 with Indy and COD then Avowed, Atomfall, south of Midnight and Doom then the first half of 2025 looks pretty good.
I think the games just need a bit more AAA polish which I think Doom will definitely have and gears of war.
Then there is older games like FH5 etc on GPU.

No advertising consoles or game pass has obviously not helped them either.
I can never work out their true intentions, then they go on about a handheld and next gen home console. It baffles me sometimes 🤣

Re: PS5 Pro's PSSR to Be Upgraded with FSR 4-Like Tech in 2026

OldGamer999

So what’s all the research and development for with PSSR.
I think the best two looking games on Pro don’t even use PSSR well one has on option to.
Last of us one and two you can pro mode with PSSR 60fps but I find some shimmering when panning in the fencing and grass. Change to performance mode 60fps no PSSR. VRR and unlocked frame rate on and by magic the shimmering on fencing and grass is gone and the picture is pure quality when panning around the best I’ve ever seen.

HFW Burning shores is run without PSSR and uses their own upscaler from about 1800p performance 60fps, Picture looks stunning and not a hint of shimmering. Voted best Pro looking game on DF.

looking forward FSR 4.

Re: Mailbox: Sony's Live Service Stupidity, Ghost of Yotei's Appeal, and the Magic of Open World RPGs

OldGamer999

@Rich33
Yep really hope they have learnt, need those Sony studio big AAA games if it wasn’t for those games and there exclusivity to Sony consoles, which keep me with Sony, just about at the moment, I might as well go all series x and GPU which I have until March 2027, as the games are here since late last year and seem to keep on coming. Which really does give great value especially as I’m on the old £11.99 a month.
