As someone who played 'Enslaved: Odyssey to the West' back when it was new, I think that Tencent has a point. To me it is just two C......S... corporations with fragile egos. Having enjoyed both Horizons, I am personally interested in playing Horizon 3 and Motiram. Maybe it could be in both of their interests to quit wasting time and money arguing about whose is bigger, and reach a financial agreement so that consumers can enjoy both games.
After finally taking a chance on Final Fantasy XVI a few weeks ago (on sale), I'm pleasantly surprised how much I am enjoying it, 80 hours and counting. I don't generally play M rated games, but FF16 could almost be T rated IMO.
I mentioned that since Lost Soul Aside (which I hadn't been following) has been compared to FF16. Depending on how it reviews, and why it deserves an (assumed) M rating, could see myself playing it at some point.
I am also interested in The Knightling if it reviews well.
I used to be a programmer and then web developer, but not a game developer.
Given the cyclical nature of software projects (be they games, accounting packages, or whatever), plus the uncertainty of predicting sales, I imagine that cycles of hiring, release, and layoffs will just be a standard part of the industry moving forward.
Many developers in this cycle are probably already taking this into consideration when financial planning.
@ShogunRok With so many people, including a lot of young people, struggling with their mental health, when you and/or your colleagues are preparing your next article on games and mental health, do you ever thing about the impact of your ongoing marketing of intensely violent, gory games? Pick a lane.
I highly recommend Fantasy Life i. Although I enjoyed Zelda BotW and TotK for the most part, I think that I am enjoying this more (been a few years since the Zeldas).
I actually started the Star Wars Outlaws demo when it was released in the last few months, after the early stealth frustrations had been patched (according to the press). Although it looked and controlled OK, I was already starting to waiver early on when I hit a 'mini-game' that, if I remember, involved a rhythm game to open a lock. After several frustrating attempts, I stopped and deleted the demo. No where near the same league as Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, which I enjoyed a lot.
Never played the original, but my tastes in gaming have changed since then, so this is more appealing now. Glad that it reviewed so well, and looking forward to playing it.
Whether we like it or not, physical games are going the way of the horse and buggy. I'm an older gamer, and I actually prefer digital now, having opted for the PS5 Digital Edition.
Would probably enjoy the game if it wasn't for the built in and seemingly unnecessary frustrations, which were mentioned in other reviews as well. Won't be spending my money on this one.
Have never played a MH game, but may give this a try at some point. Have read a few reviews, and it sounds more accessible to average gamers, which appeals to me.
As some other comments have eluded to (IMO), I don't see it as a competition. The console producers and media play that up, but not sure if many gamers really care.
Getting more into cozy games. Never played the original, but just searched and found it for $1.49 on Playstation Store, so will probably give it a try. This followup looks appealing as well.
I was playing and enjoying Ravenswatch single player quite a bit recently, but may have finally hit the wall. Having to restart each run at square one finally wore me down. Well done game overall IMO.
Looks good, but there are plenty of good looking games that didn't make it. And computer controlled party members are a red flag for me, but maybe this time it will work.
Amazing how companies can't let go of VR. I remembered seeing a VR arcade game back in the day. Just searched and it was 1994. VR will probably always remain a niche market (3D TV anyone?), but I could be wrong. Good for those who do enjoy it.
As a fan of both Horizon open world games, but not particularly Lego games, I was initially interested in LHA, but passed after the reviews. Like some other commenters, this demo move doesn't make sense to me. May give it a try if/when the demo is released with no strings.
I have been playing Magnolia over the last couple of weeks, and agree with the review. A generally enjoyable experience that keeps me coming back. The portal labyrinths (yes, there is another one) can be a bit annoying, but I was able to get through both without too much frustration. Definitely recommended.
Probably won't play this demo or game, but with all the chaos in the video game industry, hopefully more developers/publishers will start releasing demos in order to help motivate potential customers to try their games.
@Bramble I focus on cultivating 'peace of mind' , but wasn't familiar with the term 'ease of mind' until now. I like it. I know that the media I choose to subject myself to (movies, TV, games) has a significant impact on my peace of mind (or lack thereof).
Apparently there are two types of people in the world: those who enjoy the Horizon franchise and those who don't. I'm one of the former.
I don't think it is perfect, but I find the combination of graphics, environments, plot, voice acting, and combat/weapon options to be amazing.
I played and enjoyed HFW as my first game after finding a PS5 a couple of years ago. I recently bought and played through HZD remastered, since I had never played it. And since there aren't a lot of games that I am interested in (don't play M rated games), I am playing through HFW again and enjoying it even more, having learned how to better utilize various skills, weapons, elements, etc.
I played and enjoyed both Zelda BotW and TotK, but to me they are not nearly as impressive as the Horizon games.
May not be a popular opinion, but to me this is another indicator that the JRPG genre (both action and turn based) has not evolved enough over the years, in general at least. Based on reviews, and some purchases, many still use the same generic plots, lame dialog, and unimaginative combat mechanics. Not all, but too many. Just my opinion. Too each our own.
I enjoyed Okami for the most part back in the day. However, even though it was innovative, I remember not totally digging the combat. Will have to see how the sequel turns out.
Intergalactic definitely has my attention. I generally don't play Mature rated games, so will depend on the reviews, and why it is rated Mature.
Horizon FW and ZDR both look great to me on my LG C4 OLED in HDR. I would probably notice the difference if the two consoles were running on identical TVs side by side. But for now I am very satisfied with the graphics of my setup. And when I am sticking and moving in a big machine battle, don't really have time to count blades of grass anyway.

Re: You May Have a License to Kill, But You Can Finish 007 First Light on PS5 without Murdering Anyone
If I have to look at the smirking douche bag the whole game, gonna be a tough sell.
Re: PS5 Action RPG The God Slayer Getting Full Support from Sony, First Gameplay Footage Is Jaw-Dropping
Graphics are good, but at this point, just another game that looks like this. But hey, if the market will support it ...
Re: 'Fame Does Not Create a Trademark': Sony, Tencent's War of Words Over Horizon Rip-Off Rage On
Since this is all about money, it seems that they could come up with a win-win financial arrangement. TBD if LoM will even be a good game and sell.
Re: Sony Strikes Back at Tencent's Horizon Rip-Off, Says Light of Motiram 'Jeopardises' Future Success

Re: Onimusha: Way of the Sword Still Looks Sick, But We Ain't Sold on That English Dub
This game is too gory for me, so I won't be playing it anyway. But it's difficult to decide what is more brutal: the combat or the English dub.
Re: PS5's Most Exciting Upcoming Shooter Pragmata Levels Up in New Trailer
The voice acting and dialog sound like they came out of a cheese factory. But if the gameplay rocks, I'll roll with it.
Re: PS5 Pro Users Starting to Feel a Little Shortchanged After Poor or Absent Support
I feel like I have seen this movie before.
Re: Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined's PS5 Characters Are Based on Real-Life Models
That guy looks like he moonlights in a Japanese Three Stooges tribute act.
Re: Dragon Quest 7 Returns in Reimagined Form, Out for PS5 in February 2026
I use to play turn based JRPGs regularly back in the day, but the appeal has waned in recent years.
However, this looks good IMO. If it reviews well, and isn't a slog, will probably consider it.

Plods or 'plops' onto PS5?
Re: These 13+ New PS5, PS4 Games Are Coming Out This Week (28th-3rd August)
After the review, you may want to remove 'Tales of the Shire' from the subtitle. Or at least remove the exclamation point.
Re: Sony Sues Tencent Over 'Shameless' Horizon Copycat Coming to PS5
I enjoyed both Horizon games and wouldn't mind a 'spiritual successor'. Maybe they can reach an amicable, mutually beneficial settlement.

I'm warming up to the Indiana Jones game, but will probably wait for a deeper discount.

And I recommend Yoku's Island Express. Took a chance on it a few years ago on sale (Switch maybe), and really enjoyed it.

@Nalim I noticed Fantasy Life i missing from list as well. Plan to play if it reviews well.

Re: Nintendo Exclusive Picross Series Comes to PS4 for the First Time This Month, Sort Of
Played this on Switch. Although IMO the Emil character is unnecessary and annoying, a solid Picross game overall.
