They couldn't help themselves with the cringe messaging which ruins immersion, the humour felt forced at times, and the episode meandered at times, but Dina was a standout. Ultimately, it is faithful to the game for better or worse albeit using wiser structure changes, and I'm interested to see how they deal with Joel. After that, just not sure...
There is an opportunity here for someone to fund this game and turn a profit, but it requires a realistic budget and sales expectations. I love these games but it's clearly not a huge seller, akin to Dishonored and Prey. Hopefully somebody bites because I'll be there day one if it's as good as the previous games.
There absolutely is a way to make it work, but like pretty much any film, execution in all areas must be near perfect: casting, writing, directing, marketing.
I think it needs to have an amazing trailer that awes the general movie-going public rather than relying on fans of the games. The aim must be to emulate that palpable public reaction to the first Transformers (2007) trailer all those years ago.
And revamp Aloy's character from the boring, invulnerable plank she is in the games. In fact, character work must be bettered across the board. It is an IP that would benefit from some changes.
Only tease the lore, less is more, show how dangerous this world is while making it feel like an exciting place you would want to exist in, and DON'T use this as a canvas to lecture the great unwashed.
I don't expect it to sell that well. BGS peaked with Skyrim and have been exposed ever since. I hope I'm wrong but I'm not expecting a return to form with ES6.
A lack of must-play exclusives is why Xbox struggled. The fact Sony delivered them while pushing graphics shows how lacking Xbox have been with software.
Eastern Devs are cooking right now. Japan has been on fire for time but now the influx of Korean and Chinese talent is great. Western gaming is in a lull right now but competition like this will bring it back someday. And Gwendolyn's design is fantastic.
We will look back on this generation as a disappointment, but also the one which had to exist in order for the industry to finally find out that mediocrity, arrogance, and sheer nonsense wont be rewarded. And mark my words: there are still some catastrophic failures coming down the pipeline...
The only way PlayStation comes back from this disaster is a BluePoint Bloodborne remake and Days Gone 2. The mismanagement of this generation is what will be remembered most. Maddening. Heads must roll.
The fact that the slander campaign committed by establishment journos coincided with Game Science not bending the knee to grifter weirdos says everything. Disgraceful. But the more they try, the more they expose themselves to the masses. Their days are numbered.
I just hope whatever campaign they make doesn't involve arrogant, authoritarian leaders provoking a dictator--who happens to lead a Nuclear superpower--via a proxy war directed by psycopaths that ends up with WW3 and the countless deaths of regular people whose tax money was appropriated for this mess in the first place.
Because, you know, I play games to escape from reality.
Never played a Silent Hill game before but I am absolutely loving this so far. Potential GOTY for me if the rest of the game holds up like the first 2 hours.
I caved and bought the Pro. I've had the base model since launch so I'm selling that to a mate for £300 and figure I'll more than get use out of the £500 I pay to upgrade for the Pro over the next 3-4 years until the PS6 drops.
Can't help feeling a little dirty because it should never have been this price without a disc drive and stand so I totally understand those who don't buy it. Hopefully Playstation can reward my custom over the second half of this generation with some absolute bangers.
Well, it'll be good training for the for the very real dystopia we'll be living through, I suppose. I'd type more but I don't want to literally go to prison.
Never did understand the hype for this, especially from people who never played the first game and only saw the CG trailer. If it ever does release, it'll be another game that could never live up to overinflated expectations, and Ubisoft obviously knows this.
Played Deliver Us the Moon and really enjoyed it despite it's rough edges, but never bought the sequel at launch due to poor reviews. However, I've just played Deliver Us Mars on PS Plus and I'm genuinely baffled by the shockingly low metacritic score. 69!?!?
Sure it's still got obvious shortcomings due to the indie nature of the development, but damn it deserves better than it got, and it excels in certain areas better than most AAA games. I will 100% purchase Deliver Us Home if they can find a way to do it.
I urge those that haven't played Immortals to give it a shot. Genuinely good game with a novel concept and I'm really enjoying it, and definitely feel it deserved better than it got at launch. Hopefully it can see a bit of success now it's on PS Plus, and HDR will do wonders for the visuals.
Immortals of Aveum is well worth a go, particularly if like me you are burned out on open world games that waste your time. Playing the trial now and genuinely enjoying the early game and the lore. Novel idea for a game and can see it was well thought out.
I was enjoying it knowing full well it was nothing special, but it is ultimately bloated beyond belief and so repetitive. The 2nd Party exclusives have been truly awful this generation, and whoever is selecting them needs firing. Forspoken last year and now this?!?! We had 2nd Party exclusives like Nier: Automata on the PS4!
It isn't mandatory to buy, won't negatively impact games on the base model, and likely means a permanent price cut for the base model. Do not understand the negativity. Day one upgrade for me and I expect the price to be reasonable. £499-£549.
What I would also say is I do miss the days when a AAA game was around 8/10 hours to complete, and the idea of replaying those games was tantalising if they were good enough. Games like BioShock, Uncharted etc. Just played FFVII: Rebirth and it would have been considerably stronger were it a third shorter. And having replayed TLoU 2 recently, that game has no right to be the length it is. This is all huge amounts of money being wasted on development time in my opinion.
And whoever is budgeting a game must accept the state of the economy and the sheer competition for sales. Supply is currently outweighing demand (see Rise of the Ronin and Dragon's Dogma 2 launching on the same day).
No doubt the greed at the top is partly to blame, but as a 'game enjoyer' I feel all too often my time is being wasted because videogames are bloated in order to keep me playing longer. Huge AAA openworld games should be in the minority, yet already this year we've had LaD: Infinite, FFVII: Rebirth, Rise of the Ronin and Dragon's Dogma!
As painful as it is, an industry-wide shift is much needed.
I understand Remake doing better with a far higher install base but being behind 16's sales is very odd?!? It is a competitive market though. Loving the game and hope it reaches more people.
Saw the DF video and tried streaming some PS5 games and it genuinely is impressive. Always felt sceptical about a potential streaming-only future, but now I'm beginning to believe. Just need to get that latency down.
I think it's time Xbox stood down the politician and gave the job to someone who understands that ALL Xbox needs to do is produce high-quality games. Instead of Phil whining it's too difficult and blowing wad's on major publishers.
His failure over years has led Xbox to this point: doing everything they can to stay somewhat relevent and hang on to Sony's coat-tails while finding ways to milk their audience's misguided allegiance, and spinning narratives left, right and centre.
Drives me crazy that with the resources he's had, he can't whip Microsoft Game Studios into shape when I know others absolutely could.
He just doesn't get 'it', which in turn means Xbox just doesn't get 'it'. And that is why they will continue to flounder under his leadership.
That was seemingly the most pointless 'update' I've ever seen. 20 minutes essentially saying nothing, yet clearly skirting around a massive elephant in the room.
They are going to hedge their bets in the hope that Xbox can grow enough in the short term to not publish their 'bigger' games on Playstation and Nintendo, but if that fails then the dam will open.
Perfectly timed for me personally, hopefully plenty of games make use of it straight away. Really hoping they have a new first party game releasing alongside it, and not another remaster though I guess the rumoured Horizon Zero Dawn remaster would be my bet.
Have become very accustomed to higher FPS this gen so gimme those specs ..
Please, please, please add an option to remove the god-awful vignetting, like in Witcher 3. That is all I ask. Otherwise, I absolutely adore this game.
Under Ryan's leadership, PlayStation's finger has been way off the pulse, and lack of competition is breeding overconfidence. Xbox have never had a better chance to gain some momentum now. Bring back the PS4 head honchos.
It's still insane to me that in this day and age, with the budget and time this had, a dev team and writers with the opportunity to create a brand new IP, they push out what is at best a by the numbers, bland, bang average game.
Deathloop won't boot up as it is crashes after the first few load screens. It's been out for a year!?! Literally have been in a 'deathloop' of trying and retrying to boot the friggin game. Absolute jokers.
People with the power to make decisions work for PlayStation and know NOTHING about videogames or about what their customers want. These small inconveniences keep happening and it's the death of a thousand cuts.
If anything is to be learned this gen about PlayStation, then temper those expectations. This isn't the same company that turned everything around with the PS4. Still years ahead of the competition with regards to exclusives and some fantastic tech, but I'm expecting yet another tone-deaf PR fumble with this Subscription Service. Prove me wrong, Jim Ryan.
I've played pretty much everything from the previous generation, like, almost everything general consensus would deem must-play/most popular etc.
So I got a shock when I saw my most played game was ... Dragon Age: Inquisition. 225 hours!!! And I never even touched the DLC. I mean, I know I definitely enjoyed that game, but damn.
