Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 529

Gigawatt-Kapow

@LikelySatan Yeah, I went straight from 3 to Blood Dragon to 4 and learned my lesson with Far Cry burnout! I really enjoyed 5 and I've been putting off trying 6 for ages. Finally took the plunge after I ended up with birthday money and it was in the sale. So far, it's a win. But I totally agree on the HUD. There's a lot going on.

Sorry I'm late this week. My lungs are still not feeling right (that's 2 months now) and I've just started a play through of Far Cry 6 having had it installed for a week while I built settlements in Fallout 4. So far Far Cry 6 is excellent, the opening level and intro are dripping with potential and atmosphere. I'm excited to see where it goes.

Re: Over 1,250 Massive PS5, PS4 Games Discounted Right Now

I'm not used to having spare credit. The desire to buy is strong. Especially as there's a bunch of games from my wishlist on sale right now. I keep telling myself "I can only play one at a time", but the child that lives in my brain says "games good. More games gooder" and you can't argue with that logic.

But... Someone that had been through what he's been through and done the things he's done (you know what I'm talking about) would look very worn. Haunted, even. This makes very little sense.

"Yeah, he's a tortured soul, but he never forgot to eat properly and moisturise, kids. Don't let the death of your wife and tormented mind put you off that second burger!"

Re: Imagine Earth Promises Sustainable Sci-Fi City Building on PS5, PS4 in May

@Cutmastavictory Is it? That's an odd absolute. I don't dictate rules to my friends. Life is rarely black and white. We've come to certain understandings that have taken a lifetime to reach. A rich lifetime full of joy from gaming, music, movies and all the things that come with growing up together. A lifetime that you've reduced to "awful" based on comments under a videogame article. Who between us is truly in need of analysing their life choices?

@riceNpea Oh, I agree. But we share such stimulating discourse on so many other subjects. The world is a complicated place and there's no sense upsetting those amongst my friends who lose reason when faced with things they're scared of. And pointing that out to them only causes them further distress. On other matters, I'm sure I'm just as unreasonable. Our friendship is based on a lifetime of sharing the things we love and knowing what topics prove to be nothing but time wasted in an argument.
I don't need all my friends to feel the same about everything, but some topics simply can't be resolved so easily. At least not without harsh words.

They're also not fans of building games. But I am. And I've not seen one done like this, so I'm excited. Just lamenting that it will be a game I'll play alone.

Re: Most PS5 Players Say 60fps Is a Must

Gigawatt-Kapow

My first gaming was done on a dedicated LCD screen that only played one game and only did either clear or pre-determined black shapes. It maybe hit 2 frames per second and I adored it. My ZX Spectrum didn't reach much higher FPS either and I have many fond memories of it. Obsession with frame-rates is corporate crap to distract from how bland and samey games are becoming. But then, I'm 50 so just ignore this old man while I shout at clouds.

Re: Poll: How Much Do You Care About 60fps on PS5?

Gigawatt-Kapow

I mean, surely it depends on the game. In a fight game, racing game or similar, fast, lofty frame-rates and can have a beneficial effect on player interaction and response times.

But, there are plenty of games, visual novels, turn-based RPGs, etc. where frames-per-second is just not important. Also, as an aside, cinema movies run at 24fps and nobody complains about judder in those.

Usually, a consistent frame-rate with no major dips can keep me engaged. Insane frame-rates are only ever essential in PSVR for me. And that's only so I don't vomit on the new carpet.

Re: Sony Allegedly Pausing PSVR2 Production Due to Surplus of Unsold Stock

Gigawatt-Kapow

Meh. I love my headset and I've got a bunch of games I enjoy playing. I'll not get bored of Pistol Whip any time soon, for instance. There are also a multitude of games on the store I'm interested in. Even if the headset stalls right here, I'm all set. It's a shame more people haven't taken the plunge. There's plenty to enjoy on the platform.

Having said that, I know 4 people who have PS5 and 2 of them regularly play online in VR with me. That means, in my peer group, VR is already at +50% saturation. Those are some good numbers.

Re: Biggest Dying Light 2 Update Yet Has a PS5, PS4 Reloaded Edition

Gigawatt-Kapow

Been loving this since day one. There's been nothing wrong with it. I upgraded to the PS5 version recently and I've put in another 100 hours since then too. It's a great game that's fun to play. Story is dreadful, but so was the first. And the map design is brilliant.

Too many focus on what games are not. Hence: gun update. Unnecessary, but it'll not stop me playing. I'm sure it'll just add to the fun.

Re: Metro Awakening Tells a Series Origin Story on PSVR2, Out This Year

Gigawatt-Kapow

Well, this looks fantastic. I love Metro and the chance to crap myself in VR is too good to pass up.
I've had a blast in VR recently since I managed to desensitise myself to the effects of simulation sickness, and now I'm ready for more. Resi 4 is a revelation and GT7, obvs, but my faves so far are No Mans Sky and Pistol Whip.

PS, I'm getting pretty bored of this weird "unless the headset is the absolute best thing ever, it's awful" arguments I see whenever VR is mentioned. Similar things have been cropping up since the spectrum/commodore rivalry of the 80s.
Gamers have been using their imaginations to fill in the gaps in graphics since the days of the zx81. I don't need a simulation to be utterly perfect in every way for me to enjoy it. I've loved some janky games.
All I need from a game is for it to blank out my awareness of these types of human beings for a while. 😉 PSVR2 is really good at that as it stands.
