I get the overall discussion around censorship is important but this just seems like a really bizarre hill to die on.
Stellar blade for me. Really enjoying it so far. The flow and timing of combat takes a bit of getting used to be it’s very satisfying when you get it right.
Been looking forward to this upgrade for weeks but playing it in 2024 feels a bit crap. Awful inventory management system, littered menus, loading screen for every building and general jank. I know it’s a 9 year old game with a fresh coat of paint but for me it really highlights how much Bethesda desperately need to do something new with their open world RPG formula if they want to remain relevant in the future. I will give it more time but with every annoyance I’m remembering why I dropped it halfway through on PS4.
I downloaded it, transferred my save and played for about an hour before a bunch of super mutants blew me up and I lost half of that progress so I rage quit. It was really nice in 60fps and I will play more over the weekend.
I didn’t think I would get this but the stars have aligned: it releases on payday, I have a completely free weekend and have been desperately craving a new action game. Bring it on I can’t wait!
Won’t have too much time to play this weekend but when I do I will be slowly making my way through the final chapters of Infinite Wealth and I will give Miasma Chronicles a go as well.
@Gigawatt-Kapow I have a really close friend who I love dearly but we have got into some blazing rows because we are polar opposite in so many of our ideologies. For that reason I completely understand where you’re coming from on all this. When you have been friends with someone for so long you know nothing you say will change their mind on a topic so what’s the point in getting into an argument that’s going to leave you both frustrated and angry. Our arguments have never got in the way of our friendship and never had lasting damage but they also haven’t contributed anything either. Some friends you can debate with and some you can’t but it doesn’t mean you should just instantly drop them as a friend.
This all got very philosophical and off topic didn’t it. Annyyywayyy fun looking game I will dive in!
@Dragoon1994 both excellent choices. Outside of FromSoftware games Nioh 2 is probably my fav so would absolutely recommend that (the first one is anlso exceptional but the sequel improves on it in every possible way). Lies of P is alot of fun as well although I hit a wall and never completed it.
@Dragoon1994 This is why I thought I would love it…I’m a massive soulslike fanboy so this should have been a slam dunk for me. I did try it last year during a busy period so I should probably give it another go when I can give it the attention it deserves. Glad you enjoyed it though, has it tempted you into trying some other soulslikes?
The first Tails of Iron should have been right up my street but for some reason I couldn’t get into it. I might give it another go before the sequel comes out because I really want to love it!
Gonna hop on the “wife and I” train. It was such a fun game to play together and one of only a handful we have managed to complete before getting bored.
I’m always interested in anything we can play together that’s going to hold our attention and not cause blazing rows….Im looking at you overcooked
I’m really looking forward to Tales of Kenzera but today I will be downloading Miasma Chronicles and Construction simulator which have both been on my try but not buy list for a while. I have Dave on steamdeck and switch and as good at it is I won’t be triple dipping.
@LifeGirl I might be wrong but I think an open world Iron Man game is in development.
Personally I’m remaining positive on this. It’s been a while since EA has had a stab at a true open world so they might surprise us and do something different. They have proven they can respect a popular IP with the Jedi games so I am interested to see what happens.
@Mostik Try Balatro at your own peril. I don’t know how something that addictive can be legal.
On pure hours played my top 3 would be Tekken 8, Balatro and Infinite Wealth. I want to complete Infinite Wealth before diving into another big RPG, it will be a toss up between Unicorn overlord and FF Rebirth.
@Stevemalkpus it is incredibly stupid…you also get more points for games you bought using the credit you redeemed. Absolutely no benefit to buying the game instead of the credit although I did see on Reddit that in some regions the credit is more expensive against their currency so redeeming the game works out better. Not sure how true that is though.
Negativity aside though I have managed to redeem about £70 which I wouldn’t have had without the PS stars programme so overall I’m happy with it.
@kirkn Amen my friend. I renewed extra at full price last month but I bought the credit for it from Cdkeys so got it for about £85. I understand that not everyone is going to be pleased with the games every month but I don’t see how anyone can look at this list and think it’s bad value for money in 2024. A small pizza from my local takeaway costs more than a months PS plus premium…some people just seem to have no financial perspective when it comes to their games.
@NinjaNicky Bigger games like what though? We got Immortals of Aveum on essential this month and no one seemed to like that. Feb extra gave us Outer worlds, tales of arise, NFS Unbound and AC Valhalla but people still complained. If you look at the games over the course of the year rather than individual months you actually get tons of big AAA games they are just never going to be day ones. Sony has stated this numerous times, the best we are going to get for day ones are indies but some of them can be pretty impressive: Stray, Tchia, Humanity, Teardown as examples. Either it’s old AAAs or new-ish Indies, that’s always been the way and it likely always will be the way. The people who get the best value out of Plus extra are the ones who don’t buy games day one, hell I buy most of the games I want day one but I still acknowledge it’s very good value for money and just regret buying the games rather than waiting.
@Titntin got to admit I always roll my eyes at the toxic positivity on Pure Xbox over absolutely everything MS do (Phil Spencer shot a child this morning…YAY XBOX!!) but these monthly articles make me appreciate it more because at least it’s positive. Every month people seem to think that for their £60-£120 a year Sony should be curating a personalised list of games just for them. It’s especially ridiculous on the back of Ubisoft charging the price of a yearly premium subscription just for one Deluxe edition of their games. Like you said just no idea what people are expecting for max £10 a month!
@NinjaNicky I’m not going to defend the price hike but let’s be a bit realistic here. In the uk it went up less then £2 a month. You think because you pay an extra £2 they are suddenly going to put day one AAA games on there. I will admit premium has been pretty rubbish since the beginning but at £100 a year for extra what are you expecting?! What would the service have to give you for you to think you have got good value for £8 a month? Name some games you would have liked to see in April.
Btw there’s absolutely no way you know if at least two of the games are “trash” because they haven’t released yet. If you’re paying for the sub anyway why not just give them a go and see? You might be surprised.
I have wanted to try Construction Simulator since it released but didn’t want to buy something I might potentially hate. With Dave the diver and Zau on top this is an excellent month for me. Ahhh wait a sec I’m doing this wrong sorry everyone…..crap selection, usual rubbish, where is Stella’s Blade?! Sub runs out in 12 months and it can’t come quick enough. Stupid Sony.
It’s Balatro for me. Initially bought it on PS5, then I got a steamdeck and bought it on that. There’s a reasonable chance at some point i will buy in on Switch as well because I think the wife would like it. It’s a fantastic game that I have played it nearly every day since it released. Tekken 8 a close second and Infinite Wealth third.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner Everyone complains every month regardless of what’s on there. April could be Tekken 8, Baldurs Gate 3 and Stellar Blade and there would still be 50 comments like “Such a disappointment, can’t wait for my sub to lapse, can’t believe I pay £5 a month for this S*%^”
It’s really good seeing all the positive reactions here. I’ve gotta admit I thought this was going to be an overhyped flop so pleased to see I’m probably going to be wrong. I have the demo downloaded so will dip in at some point this weekend
It’s a weird game tbh. It’s janky, the story missions are terrible, the performance is questionable and the AI of the pawns is all over the place. However every time I start playing it I get sucked in for hours at a time, having heaps of fun and at the end of the day that’s what gamings all about. I’m not playing games to witness some polished, perfect, technical work of art….Im playing for a bit of fun escapism after the mundanity of a days work.
I saw these games and thought it was an absolute result. Came to the comment section to find people are, as usual, still disappointed. A years worth of PS+ essential costs £60…less than a single, brand new game. It comes with 36 games over the course of the year which you get to keep for the duration of your subscription and you get online play. They are not going to be bangers every month, they are not going to be brand new AAAs, they are not going to be GOTY contenders because YOU ARE PAYING £1.70 PER GAME!! The entitlement is genuinely madness to me but I am old enough to remember when we were paying £40+ a year just to play a console online.
The terrifying thing about biological upgrades for me is the potential need for surgery whenever anything goes wrong. The motherboard in my laptop goes I either take it to the shop or replace it….if the motherboard in my brain goes it’s not a job for the local Curry’s. Interesting stuff though, cyberpunk here were come.
I wont be getting it on release but might be tempted in the future if there are significant performance improvements. I would also be delighted if they changed the shape of the console to something smaller and more practical that doesn’t require a stand to simply exist. Either way I certainly won’t be paying mega bucks for it, if it comes in at the £700+ price point some people are predicting it will be a no but for now I would call myself intrigued.
Skyrim is one of my all time favourites. That said Starfield ruined a lot of my Bethesda related goodwill and I am no longer certain ES6 will be the blockbuster time sink Skyrim was. When we are looking at 15-20 years for a sequel it is going to have to do something different and special but I have a sneaking suspicion it’s just going to be Skyrim with better graphics and the same problems….problems that could be overlooked in 2011 but become much more noticeable when compared with other spectacular RPGs that have released in the interim like Elden Ring, Witcher 3, Zeldas and BG3.
I’m playing Dragons Dogma 2. It was an incredibly rare Series X purchase due to slightly better performance and being able to play it Thursday by moving to New Zealand. I’m loving it so far. Yes there are frame rate dips and the odd bug but no worse than Jedi Survivor, Starfield or Elden Ring so far. I haven’t even noticed the shop that people are losing their minds over. If you go into it knowing and accepting it’s flaws you can have a damn good time with it.
@Nightcrawler71 I am in exactly the same boat. I know I am going to buy one of them and up until recently that was almost certainly going to be Ronin. Reading the reviews of DD2 it almost seems like not playing the first is a bit of an advantage because it sounds like the sequel builds on the formula rather than reinvents it. Either way it’s going to be a fun weekend!
Does anyone know why Sony doesn’t allow early access games on PS? They could have made a fortune off Palworld and while it is a bit of an anomaly with regards to the high sales there have still been some really fun early access games on Xbox in the last few years like Slime Rancher 2 and Wandering village. By the time these games get full releases and arrive on PS the hype has died down and people have played them elsewhere.
@SolarSailor Completely agree it’s up to individuals to look after their own finances. I disagree that this is news though. It’s closer to an advert than it is to news.
