It’s sooo good. I’ve got to admit I was initilally planning to wait for a sale and buy Space Marine 2 instead but the reviews swayed me and I’m so happy they did. I don’t usually have the attention span for a platinum but I might go for it with Astro Bot because it is just such silly fun and it respects my time like no other game I have played in a long while. There’s literally no filler so far, everything feels purposeful.
@WanderWhere You have contradicted yourself. You say one game might appeal to one person but not the other and then start making blanket statements about what reviewers should be scoring games. Platform games obviously don’t appeal to you…that doesn’t mean that they can’t appeal to other people. When someone scores a game they have to score it for its own merits and take it for what it is, not compare it to every game that has ever existed. BG3 is exceptional and I couldn’t agree more it’s a 10 but it’s not comparable to Astro Bot in the same way it would be dumb to compare Gran Turismo 7 and Alan Wake 2. If games only got 9s and 10s based on how big they are and how much freedom they offered then most indies would never score higher than a 4. If these things are what you look for then fair enough but to suggest YOUR metrics for liking a game should apply to everyone else show a lack of empathy and frankly symptoms of being a sociopath. Also a 10 is not “perfect” as perfection doesn’t exist.
At the end of the day I can accept you saying “this game is not for me” and moving on but passing judgement on it when you haven’t played it and even worse, passing judgement on the people who enjoy it is just childish. Can’t believe I’m having to explain this to a 50+ year old who should probably be setting a behavioural example to others. Grow up!
1. Chances are this game is going to be played by more adults than kids. Something doesn’t have to be gritty and blood soaked to be fun…when you hit 18 did you just suddenly decide that the only way you could enjoy something was if it was sweary and violent?
2. Sony doesn’t have to “make up for concord” to you. If you bought the game they are refunding you. If you didn’t buy the game (which I’m guessing is the case) they don’t owe you anything.
3. Everyone’s idea of what a £60 game should be is going to be wildly different but its probably an 18 hour campaign if you breeze through and then significantly more time if you want to sweep up collectibles and secrets, of which this game has MANY. Not to mention the challenges and speed runs they will be adding in the next few months. I have bought £70 games which have bored me within 3 hours and £15 games that I play for years. Price point is fine and if not it will be on sale within 6 months…no one is forcing you to buy it day one or at all for that matter.
4. I don’t think anyone is “desperate” for a new game. This year alone there has been some first class games released all over the shop. Could it just be that all the critics are right and this is a good game? Not overhyped, not over exaggerated, just a bug free, well made bit of fun.
I would have thought someone in their 50s would be better at not judging a book by its cover…I learnt that when I was like 10
@Rob3008 PS version is much better than switch but it is still quite slow late game! I’d say you’re looking at about a 30-40% speed increase. I was desperately hoping for a native PS5 upgrade after watching my mate play it on his blazing fast laptop but not long now till 7 at least.
@DETfaninATL Yeh I can imagine Sekiro gave you some fun. I also saw Returnal on there which is one that leapt out at me as something I would not have the patience to even consider. Well respect my friend, I will check back every now and then to drop my jaw at the progress….you are not picking easy games to platinum 😂
@DETfaninATL That’s awesome. Some insanely difficult platinums in there! Which one are you most proud of? I only have Elden Ring because it’s my favourite game and Spiderman 2 because it was fairly quick and easy.
@DETfaninATL As someone who has the attention span of a toddler and rarely even finishes most games, let alone platinums them. The sentence “Since I platinum what I play” is fascinating to me. Do you genuinely not start anything unless you intend to 100% it?
@IOI This is not an accusation but a genuine question. What have Sony done to gain this reputation of abusing their position as market leader? I constantly see “if Sony are left unchecked” comments but don’t really understand the history behind them.
I imagine they are as greedy and evil as the next corporation but if Xbox exited the hardware market they are still competing with PC, Nintendo, Handhelds and Mobile for our time and money. If they aggressively raise the prices of consoles/games people will abandon PlayStation in droves. Steam is already significantly cheaper for software, you don’t need to pay a fee to play online, you can basically turn a desktop into a console and you don’t need the very latest rig to play games at 60fps (which seems to be most gamers benchmark) so I don’t get this theory that the moment Xbox shut up shop, Sony are going to make the consoles £1000 and price every game at £100. Surely they would aim to draw an already dubious fanbase of Ex-Box users into the ecosystem and going full price hike crazy would be counter productive to this aim as it would just drive them elsewhere.
I somehow missed that this weekend is a bank holiday in the UK (woooo) so I might pick it up for the long weekend. I do however have concord on preorder (hides) and an incomplete FF7 Rebirth in my backlog so I may pick it up further down the line.
I was looking forward to playing this day one but happy to wait if it needs optimisation. At least it sounds like the fundamentals are there for the most part!
My unpopular opinion is that DS2 is my favourite of the Souls games. I know full well it’s not the best of the bunch but it’s the first one where everything clicked and I truly fell in love with FromSoftware so it holds a very special place.
1. Balatro 2. Hades 3. Rogue Legacy 2 4. Returnal 5. Cult of the lamb
I think Returnal would have been higher for me if I didn’t play it on release and waited for some of the updates. Balatro, Rogue Legacy 2 and Hades are just peak roguelike imo.
I finally bought the sheer joy that is Pistol Whip for PSVR2. Do I look like a muppet while playing? 100%. But I feel like John Wick and Neo’s love child. It’s like being a kid again playing Time Crisis at the arcade and a real workout on top. I’m using leg muscles that haven’t had any attention in years!
So deserved, I frikkin love this game. If my GOTY is decided on hours played alone this will 100% be it. I’ve recommended it to anyone who will listen and even bought it as birthday steam gift for one mate who was taking too long to buy it himself. Beyond happy it’s been a runaway success for LocalThunk and can’t wait to see what the future holds for him.
@Ainu20 I picked this up on the steamdeck this weekend funnily enough. I’d never heard of it before but was in the mood for a new metroidvania and it popped up on my search. I’ve only played a couple of hours so far but it is really good!
I was one of the PSVR2 adopters last week so I will be playing some more of that. Synth riders is really fun and I am finally starting to get used to VR enough to give the resi evil games a good go. When I’m taking a break from the headset it will be FF rebirth chapter 10.
@Kidfunkadelic83 The learning curve is steep because there’s so many different systems but once it clicks it can be dangerously addictive. The tutorial gives you the basics but you really learn from just playing, observing and reading the tooltips as you go. I’d honestly recommend giving it another go if you find some time mate! I also didn’t get on too well with it at first but I picked it up again a few months later and just got hooked. Never thought I would be pumped for Civ7 but it’s one of my most anticipated games.
@AhabSpampurse Haha cheers for the tip. I am well overdue an opticians appointment anyway so will leave it till I have an up to date prescription that’s not about 4 years old.
@AhabSpampurse @dschons Cheers both. I didn’t even know lens inserts were a thing but it’s a genius solution….Ive had a phobia of touching my eyes my entire life so too much of a wuss for contacts. Thanks a lot!
On payday as well! That is really really really tempting. Can any glasses wearers who have it give me a bit of feedback on their experience? PSVR1 was playable but not particularly comfortable.
Monster train is excellent. I played it to death on Xbox and Steamdeck so I probably won’t triple dip but highly recommend it for anyone who likes Slay the Spire or roguelike deck builders in general.
I played and enjoyed it last weekend. As progress doesn’t carry over to the full release I am probably going to leave it this weekend and dive in properly when it’s out.

@Member_the_game I have historically bought every fifa day one since 2010 but I held out till Christmas for this one. Aside from gameplay I feel genuinely sorry for the sad acts who have decided they hate something entirely on the basis that it is “woke”…they complain about media being inclusive so as not to offend minorities, failing entirely to see the irony that they, themselves are offended by this. I can’t possibly understand how something, which can be entirely ignored by you, but might make someone else feel slightly more comfortable in their skin can be a bad thing. Rebirth and ZZZ on PS5.
Backpack Battles, Cobalt Core and Balatro on Steamdeck (I’ve accidentally just turned it into a roguelike machine)
Re: Talking Point: What's Your PS5 Game of the Year for 2024 So Far?
It’s probably going to be a toss up between Infinite Wealth and FF7 Rebirth although overall I’ve probably spent the most time on Balatro
Re: Poll: Are You Playing Zenless Zone Zero?
I quickly bounced off both Genshin and Honkai so I was pretty surprised when I gave ZZZ a “quick go” last night and ended up playing for about 3 hours.
