If not, the settlement lets them off lightly and allows them to continue to milk their customers.

Ubisoft, Microsoft etc release "game-key discs" = pile on (including from article author).

Sony release ultra expensive collector's editions and do far worse to their own customers by including no disc at all = tumbleweed.

If they feel they can manage the backlash, DRM stays. If not, they can claim it was a glitch and remove it.

The cartoons (Beevis & Butthead etc.) were the ones that really broke the camels back. Not a fan of the new ones either though, but not a game breaker.

Still, at least better than Sony's ultra expensive collectors editions where you get no disk at all.

At least with Xbox (if by "dynamic pricing" you're referring to "deals for you"?), you can go elsewhere and buy digital 3rd party.

Which you can't do on Playstation because of the monopoly walled garden.

The Xbox Helix is going to allow users to drop into Windows to play PC games (where they'd be able to use the launcher).

The PC game compatible Xbox isn't going to be on the market until late 2027 at the earliest.

To think any (nevermind "a lot") future owners are at the moment "port-begging" is fanciful.

Best one they did so far is the Atari 2600, it even had cartridges to build too.

Think the difference is that Nintendo and Xbox digital game keys can be bought from 3rd parties allowing competition and (very) competitive prices.

Otherwise they could have found themselves on that lawsuit too.
