@BeerIsAwesome I mean you're not wrong... but Sony isn't anywhere near the behemoth Microsoft is. Microsoft buys studios because they can. They have enough cash on hand to buy Sony. Sony obviously doesn't have those type of resources and isn't the most valuable company in the world. They need to be more strategic than Microsoft.
@Jimmer-jammer Microsoft just crossed a $3T market cap and they still have almost $150B cash on hand. Their market cap is higher than the GDP of France. They're doing quite fine....
All of my 13 year old son's friends from school on Playstation preordered this. Roughly 15-20. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. Not a single one preordered or bought Spider-Man 2 though. I'm so happy he's the opposite.
I'll wait for the Pro and hope it's better than what the specs that are floating around already are promising. The GPU looks great but apparently not much of a CPU upgrade which makes little sense with RT.
@KundaliniRising333 the game isn't the masterpiece people are pretending it is. Just wait until you see the fade to black they use constantly in the middle of cut scenes and fetch quest animation of handing over items after you have to select the items that they automatically put up for you. Level design wasn't great either and for a linear game it really could have been. World is dead. There's a reason you don't typically see 12+ hours of cut scenes in an action game. The game tries to be both a RPG and an action game and doesn't really get either right. I say this at 90% completion.
@tameshiyaku yup...feels like the beginning of what could have been a 9/10 if it had another year of development. Outside of the story it feels hollow. Combat, level design, equipment, crafting, abilities, side quests.....you can go on and on.
Hollow weapon system and abilities. Side quests can be so bad there's not even voice acting for them. Combat becomes repetitive and you can pretty much beat the majority of enemies by just pressing square. Performance isn't great. Crafting system is basically useless. Level design, which I don't really see being discussed at all, isn't very good which really could have made up for some of the other stuff considering it's not open world. Not having a real difficulty setting available until NG+ was foolish.
The game is basically story (cutscenes) and combat. Nothing else.
Only half way done with it but I'd say a 7 out of 10. Anyone giving it a 9 or 10 has some serious blinders on simply because of it's IP.
@OrtadragoonX Isn't Knights of the Old Republic considered the best Star Wars game and pretty close to open world? I don't know.....if you're gonna pay to license the IP you might as well make the kind of game you want to make and Ubisoft makes open world games.
At least it started too early to just blame on inflation.
$70 isn't horrible. It's not great either. Most games go on sale relatively quick so if you're willing to wait a couple months you're not paying more than $50 usually. I might not be typical but I've only picked up Hogwarts Legacy and Star Wars at $70 so far this year. I'll drop the $70 when necessary but I'm alright just being patient and not worrying about FOMO.
Video games tend to be relatively cheap compared to other forms of entertainment for the time you get out of them.
Just let Microsoft blow the $70 billion on toxic Activision. If they don't get it there's way too many other studios that they'll spend that money on. Those deals will be a hell of a lot easier to clear as well. You people that think blocking this really think Microsoft will pocket that $67 billion they'll get back and do nothing with it?
Some of you guys applauding the deal being blocked by the UK should probably ask yourselves what Microsoft will do with that $67 billion they'll have back instead. You can buy a lot of studios for that and those deals won't face nearly the same scrutiny. Take-Two has a market cap of $21 billion and is rumored to be looking to sell. Leaves a lot of money leftover.....Square, Capcom....the money is going to get spent.
Letting Microsoft gobble up a toxic Activision for $70 billion might not be as bad as people think.
I think Game Pass is Microsoft's future in gaming. Not necessarily Sony's. Two different business models, both of which can work. At least for me. Buy most titles on PS5 while using the Series X for Game Pass.
Hilarious this is the article written when it was reported today that Microsoft seems to be on track to get approval from the EU for the acquisition. Eventually we'll get around to acknowledging the FTC chair is overreaching while playing politics and going to lose in court and the deal will close in the US. Someone might wanna look at the Sony brass that knows this and refuses to reach an agreement while jeopardizing their gamers.
Makes me laugh that people on here think this is about saving Sony from Microsoft having a "monopoly" and being done "for gamers". It's being done to play politics because it's trendy to attack Big Tech right now. You've got an FTC chair that's overreaching daily and is most likely going to lose in court with these deals Microsoft signed with their competitors. You've got people at the FTC resigning left and right because she's overreaching. She's surrounding herself with cronies that won't tell her no and that she's not working inside the law.
Sony can get onboard and actually show they want to keep CoD on Playstation for their "gamers" or lose it completely. Remember whose at fault when that happens.
NFL got $1.5 billion for 5 year commitment plus $500 million committed to marketing. Premier league deal seems light assuming this is also a long term deal.
@TaMpA_bLaCk Yeah cuz Bethesda wasn't making Starfield way before Microsoft bought them. Comparing a new IP from Bethesda to No Man's Sky is quite the leap.
Transferring save files has been the only thing I have noticed that the PS5 doesn't do as well/better than Xbox Series X after having both for a couple months. A few games did work flawlessly w/ transferring save files, a few did not....but it only took a quick Google search and few button clicks to fix.
I'm not a huge fan of how Xbox forces an upgrade to the Series S/X version of the game, storage space be damned and won't allow you to play the Xbox One version of the game. Internal/Expansion Card Storage only.
There will always be a Playstation and Xbox regardless of who buys what publishers. When Microsoft said they're not competing with Sony they weren't lying. If Sony truly is using Microsoft's cloud for gaming in the future Microsoft wins no matter what.
There's a reason one is worth $1.5 trillion vs $100 billion. Microsoft's only real competition is keeping Google, Amazon and Apple out of gaming as much as possible. By agreeing to partner with Microsoft, Sony also seems to feel the same way. Look at where IBM makes the majority of their money now..... off cloud and tech services.

Move on.
