@DennisReynolds my copy is the digital deluxe and I cannot access it at all. When I upgraded to a pro, I probably never switched the new console to primary. But I can’t access my account details to even check that! Wtf Sony.

Still a misleading title. Now it sounds like overall yearly sales dropped in the UK by 19% compared to the previous year lol. Why not just say sales dipped 19% from Nov to Dec? That’s normal. And avoids all confusion.

Incredibly misleading title. Thought this meant yoy. Of course sales will dip from Black Friday month. The header is disingenuous and makes it seem like sales of the console have fallen off.

@Intr1n5ic It’s accurate. Metaphors aren’t facts. The reality is many games do go on for absurd lengths of time, and new games or sequels get pushed back in favor of reusing assets and milking the existing game. So to my broader point, even single player “live service” games are a problem, even if there are better examples of that than Valhalla.

@LiamCroft Yes and look how long it’s been since we got a new AC. Just constant updates to the same game for five years instead of new ones. Live service needs to die.

No PS5 native version?

For all the sh*t Sony takes for “moneyhatting” and timed exclusives, Nintendo is the real scumbag of this practice, and their names are never even mentioned. Maybe because it’s primarily Japanese games, but nobody does this more than Nintendo. It’s time they get called out and ripped to shreds. But I assume they’ll continue to skate under the radar because everyone loves Nintendo 🙄.

@thefourfoldroot1 I know what you meant. Games do respect your time. Trophies are completely optional. Not obtaining trophies shouldn’t detract from your enjoyment. Like you, I choose to go after these and fully expect to put in blood and sweat to get them. Working on Like a Dragon Ishin. Talk about a time sink!! But that’s a choice I made. As for no death trophies, I relish the challenge. That also isn’t necessary. Too many games have made plats meaningless, so I appreciate both the grind and difficulty. I’ll agree with thought on VR trophies. Tough to do by yourself though the new pass through mode on VR2 should hopefully make it easier.

@thefourfoldroot1 So basically you want platinum trophies that require minimal skill and limited time and effort. Trophies are supposed to be “earned” and plats a collection of your gaming achievements. If you want mindless trophies, there are no shortage of “Press X” cheeses in the store.

I am not going to support these far inferior versions of the games because Microsoft money hatted Sega for an exclusive current gen version just as they did with Yakuza Like A Dragon. With all the crap Sony takes for this practice, Microsoft gets a free pass for the same tactics. I will buy both when and if PlayStation gets PS5 native games.

@awp69 I just read that on ResetEra. So PS4 is 1080/60 and Series X is 4K/120 with significantly faster load times. What a massive slap in the face. And yet the gaming media, including supposed PlayStation specific sites, haven’t even mentioned it since it was announced. Unbelievable.

For once Jim is right. It’s bad for gaming and even worse for the industry. He’s actually doing what he should - fighting for his PlayStation customers. It’s about time someone stood up to Lord Spencer.

@IonMagi No chance bud. At worst, you’d still have a PS4 version but PS5 as well. I can’t think of any cases where a PS4 & PS5 version came out but the sequel went backwards and omitted the PS5. If such an example exists, it’s an extreme anomaly.

So the original came out originally for PS4 and later added PS5. But the sequel is only for PS4?? Wtf?

Clear PlayStation bias on display, as it should be on a dedicated site. But I don’t see how this topped Microsoft or Nintendo’s shows. While there weee great reveals, the vast majority of what was shown will be available on other systems. Meanwhile, the lion’s share of what we saw on the MS and Ninty shows were exclusives, timed exclusives, or had exclusive comment. Sony’s show did nothing to convince me I needed a PlayStation. Microsoft & Nintendo both showed why you want in their respective ecosystems.

Getting so tired of seeing these State of Plays and focus of 3rd Party or Indy. Getting out front to set expectations doesn’t excuse the fact that it’s becoming sickeningly rare for them to showcase the first parties. That’s what people want to see. Beyond GOW and a few Marvel games due in 2023/2024, we have virtually no confirmations of anything from any first party studios. Where’s the roadmap? What’s up with all these studios they bought? I’m bracing myself for the inevitable reveal of a near pure GAAS lineup. That’s NOT what made Sony the top system last gen. All that good will they built is literally being pissed away in the wind. Looking so forward to another State of Play that shows games largely playable on Xbox.

@Deljo You’re missing the point. There are excellent Switch games no doubt. But trophies/achievements have massive followings, even if you personally aren’t interested in them. There are simply no shortage of great titles that do offer trophies/achievements.

@Deljo How so? All PS games starting in 2008 were required to have trophy support, so what exactly have I missed? This service and legacy offerings are brand new. There’s only so much time in a day, and most people have backlogs. If a legacy game doesn’t have trophy support, there are no lack of great games to play that do.

@Apfelschteiner I know the reasons are the different, but I meant deja vu as in a major platform exiting hardware. It may sound far fetched it theory, but so did Sega at the time. Not saying for sure it’ll happen, but that sure sounds like the direction they’re heading at least.

This sounds like Sega deja vu. At this rate, I don’t know if I’d be that surprised if they left the console business. Jim Ryan spends so much time talking about expansion, live service, and other platforms, it’s like they keep giving less and less reasons to own a PlayStation. Exclusives may stay around for a bit, but you know Sony is salivating to put God of War on any machine that can run code. And I don’t think this view is extreme, but understanding of reality.

That’s what happens when you put a day one release on Gamepass. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Wow thank you so much for protecting me Sony!! I’m so glad you were there to choose what was appropriate for me despite me being an adult and having ratings with descriptions to help make educated choices. Hopefully a TLOU2 pacifist patch is coming shortly as well 😃!

MS has added nothing positive to the industry and has single-handedly steered it away from ownership while removing content from established platforms like PlayStation. Just because Tencent is Chinese, what proof is there that them owning major ddvs of publishers wouldn’t be better than MS? Honest question, but they may be better than Xbox.

Not sure how anyone misses such a blatant pathologically lying greaseball who’s mastery of misleading rhetoric deserves Nobel level recognition. But the media drools all over him like he’s a god. Including the mods here, on a pro PlayStation site. I truly believe if Spencer got actual backlash instead of bootlicking from the media, Starfield would be coming to PS5 this November.

@eltomo they absolutely 100% should be defending themselves. When you threaten to remove the top selling Game every single year from the largest player base, you better come prepared with promises and assurances. They should actually be applying this retroactively to Zenimax. Hopefully regulators will put enough pressure on them that they will.

@get2sammyb No amount of “But but but” is going to change people’s minds. People don’t come to PlayStation for GaaS. They want the single player strong narrative game of the year contenders. There are no shortage of service games, and people know where to find them. You can write fifty articles begging gamers to give Sony’s live service crap plan a chance, and it won’t change anything. At the end of the day, it sounds to me like Sony has come to terms with the fact they will absolutely shed customers with their new direction. The real question will be individual choices on where people want to game. And depending on Sony’s future single player output, it may not be on PlayStation.

@LiamCroft So Sony should just stand there like a punching bag while MS continues to rip away the biggest names in gaming? They ripped away two of the largest “publishers” in gaming. Names like Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom, Dishonored, Rage, Prey, Call of Duty, Overwatch, and Diablo. Most of these will be exclusive, if they haven’t already been confirmed. Sony just bought ONE “dev”. Microsoft isn’t stopping here. All I read (including on parts of this site) is how great the Zenimax and Activision buyouts are. Sony buys one “dev” and suddenly consolidation is bad. Where was that sentiment, especially in the media, when MS subtracted all those games from PlayStation. Maybe you’re content to watch all your content go to a competitor. But if Sony can’t retaliate, I’ll just join team green. And I won’t be the only one. Very poor take on this from a PS mod.

But but but PlayStation is bending us over! What happened to everyone who said they weren’t supporting paying the up charge or buying it again? I guess despite all the whining, people understand it’s fair and are willing to pay for quality.

@Flaming_Kaiser Because you still have to sell your new system. Infamous Second Son was the first major first party game for ps4, and I’m pretty sure the customer base will similar and smaller in size to the current one. It’s a risk you have to take as a platform holder.

@OmegaStriver This! It’s really time people stop giving Sony a pass on this. I get the PS5 is really hard to get, but you can’t keep hanging on and dragging down your biggest games.

Honest question, how is Switch seemingly unaffected by this? They’re monthly sales totals indicate they’re meeting demand and not suffering from semiconductor shortages like Sony or MS. At least not nearly to the same degree. What are they doing differently?

And this is exactly why we can’t get a GTA 6 and why we’ll be waiting a decade between new Rockstar games. All people want are remasters and lapping up micro transactions that keep a game from 2013 one of the most profitable on a monthly basis. FML!

@LiamCroft I’d say it’s more Sony having to react. They have no choice but to react. Resting on your laurels is a death sentence in business. At least Sony’s few recent purchases have already been near exclusive to PlayStation.
