Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Won't Have Remake and Rebirth's 'Cheats' at Launch

Eyebrows were raised when Square Enix introduced 'Streamlined Progression' to both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth post-release.

Essentially in-game cheats, these options allow players to toggle things like infinite HP and MP, instant weapon mastery, and unlimited resources.

The idea is that the settings give new players a chance to catch up on the series, while also providing existing fans with an easy way to replay the games or make progress through tougher moments.

However, with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation — the last game in the trilogy — Streamlined Progression will not be included at launch, when it releases next year on the 8th April.

Confirmation comes from director Naoki Hamaguchi himself, as per an interview with RPG Site.

Hamaguchi says that "a lot of players" have made use of Streamlined Progression in both Remake and Rebirth, and the team saw "a lot of positive reception" with regards to adding the options in the first place.

But for Revelation, he doesn't want people to miss out on the intended experience — at least not at launch.

Hamaguchi explains: "One of the discussions that we had is that right after launch, a lot of players and fans will probably go have a discussion about what kind of builds that they might make to make their gameplay progression smoother and share that amongst each other."

"I think that’s one of the fun ways to engage with the game."

He continues: "We don’t want to take that experience away from them by having the streamlined progression feature at launch. I feel like if we offered it at launch, we might see some negative comments and feedback from players."

As alluded, though, Streamlined Progression will be introduced at some point post-launch. Hamaguchi doesn't give a precise timeline, but I would assume that update will drop after Revelation's two expansions have released.
