I'm in the same boat that I gave it a whirl just out of morbid curiosity for a series I. Used to love you know like going to a funeral.

Told myself if it's nothing but cut things i'm out so I don't really know what's up. I didn't last long.

It's like a tech demo since you don't really play it. More if the same - Squeenix jerking themselves off as usual, look at how great we are we have a PS5 Exclusive! that you know sucks in performance mode and causes nausea with motion blur.

Ever since the days of data limits on disk size or cartridge size have been a thing of the past, square-enix has kind of used excessive space. Their pc ports sort of reflect this.

I doubt it's two gameplay discs. one is probably a front load of data like remake part one was. Remake part only one?
They're sorta jumping the remake rails with the rebirth title.

I'm just bummed that they look like they are going to do the sort of xenosaga (lv 1 each episode) approach instead of having your stats or anything actually carry over.
The "no need to play the first game" thing kind of dummies it down too, in terms of continuity. I mean you're already taking one story and splitting it up into 3 parts and now you can just totally pass with a recap? GTFOH.

@KaijuKaiser I wouldn't say it is less a final fantasy than any of those that you listed, because those are all similarly games that lost their way after the merger.

With one exception.

FF XIV is final fantasy online, at least. It kills it as far as anyone could have ever envisioned an MMO FF.

Final Fantasy used to set trends, post merger, it chases them. Its identity is an identity crisis. It's only consistency is its inconsistency.

But to answer,
It made the move from Role playing game with action elements to action game with rpg elements, effectively abandoning the genre it championed, whereas the other games you listed were still RPGs that just really wished they weren't.

It really doesn't take a rocket scientist to see this ISN'T final fantasy, and its IN NAME ONLY... It literally jumped the shark on the genre it invented. Not Happy Days.

Don't malign old fans just because the label changed and they realize it's not the same product inside.

Might finally check this out since this is the "final" patch. Unless it's like the KISS version of the "final" patch. Will still wait for a sale. Summer of brokeness.

More interestingly RPG, they (Sabotage) are doing The Sea of Stars backerkit survey now. So if you want to preorder that physically on any platform you can do so, but hurry. Survey closes 7/3, and though you will not get the physical copy on day one, they will send you a digital code as well. You don't even need to match platforms with it, so You can technically get it on two different platforms for one price. Even Xbox owners can play it.

I've grown tired of all the remakes. I know they don't have any new ideas, but come on. Just make Sakaguchi an offer already.
