The older I get the less likely it is I’ll have the kind of friends that play video games. I know that’s normal given work, family and just life gets to be the center but it’s still a bit saddening. Even so, this is hilarious.
@nomither6 I’ll remember it as the seizure simulator at launch. Whatever sega’s quality control was, it could have been disastrous. Became half decent after the fix but good lord.
@jgrangervikings1 considering plus is a requirement for online play, these titles are worth several months at least. Say what you will about veilguard, but it is a quality title that has decent gameplay. Then you have ninja turtles and frankly if you’re over 30 you need to play this one, as it takes you back to the classic days of the arcade games and SNES. It’s really a good month.
I picked up veilguard on pc day one but preferred the console controls and couch perspective. Glad I held off on a second purchase, coupled with ninja turtles this month is absolutely stellar.
@Deadlyblack the remarkable thing is people claim to have that same card and are seeing constant freezing and crashing, which is why I feel like most of these issues are due to user error. I’ll be the first person to call out devs for horrific optimization but it’s also very common for windows to be so bloated and infested with garbage that people don’t realize all of their windowed programs and 8000 tabs slow it down.
Again, I’m sure there are plenty of people struggling with genuine issues but I was shocked that for all its widespread “issues” DD2 ran flawlessly on a gpu that is claimed to be rubbish. Strange days.
@Deadlyblack from what I’ve seen of performance on PC it looks fine. I think a lot of people just try to max settings and refuse to lower it then write angry reviews. I have my ps5 pro specifically for Japanese games as they’re notoriously shoddy on PC, but I can run DD2 on PC at 1440p, max settings with ray tracing at 70-90 fps using a 4060. So I don’t know what to tell people.
That being said, Fromsoft can kick rocks with how they blamed mouse software for microstutters on PC. Absurd.
Is the difference between adore and a huge fan cosplaying and having posters of the handler? Becaus I’m definitely the latter if that’s case , I’ve played every release since World but adore is a pretty odd word to use.
@VaultGuy415 as someone who got an early copy, you’ll be very pleased by the latter. I can’t speak for base ps5 but the pro runs pretty much flawlessly barring some odd texture loading issues. There are certain areas that change during key moments and after reverting to normal textures will sometimes just not load.
There’s a great amount of detail overall and I didn’t realized how much I missed gassy simians.
@IceClimbersMain WB isn't exactly the most successful in court either. Artists under their umbrella tend to win lawsuits regularly due to the mismanagement at the company as a whole. Someone somewhere is always unaware of something bad happening, and given the frequency of said bad things it just makes it a great corporation to mock.
@wilky2988 they went a step further and patented the idea of taking an enemy character from a combat encounter into the immediate gameplay as an ally. Nintendo is going insane with palworld being as successful as it is, but the only ones to blame are gamefreak.
To clarify, Gamefreak is not owned by nintendo but is a joint venture between them and the pokemon company. Though in the next few years that may change given how Nintendo has assumed the role of "bad cop" when it comes to gamefreak being arrogant. Still, patent laws need to really be put under a microscope and invalidated when it becomes evident it's a "just in case" motivation. Imagine if Metallica or Black Sabbath patented "aggressive vocals overlaid on downtuned instrumentation".
Are we allowed to curse here? Because f**k this company. Bad enough to go and trademark the nemesis system but to do nothing with it, chase trends that fail (suicide squad) and then shut down studios that actually make good games (monolith), Jesus Christ. Absolutely garbage and their ceo is a capital idiot. Understands nothing but failure, please for the love of god just close your game studio arm and leave the space.
It felt like a mobile game. I couldn’t truly get into it ever, really. Menus, hub, etc. But let’s be real, this is the fate of all live service games. I’m always down for a game with lots of online stuff, but cmon, requiring the developer to support your gameplay on their servers is not the jam. Trust that games will stay alive has dwindled more than ever, and no amount of reassurance can help.
@ChrisDeku thankfully the majority of people engaging with this buffoon are not stupid, and understand how this works. This happened during his first term as well, and very little changed even if he acted like he somehow saved the world. Stroke his ego and he’ll happily take a bad deal.
Honestly I’ll probably watch cutscenes for the story. The second game started strong and then quickly devolved into “it’s the first game but bigger” and halfway through I was begging for it to end. Plus, outside of the late new game plus mode there’s very little replay value. I’m just burnt out on games that waste their talent on open world busywork, and I’m embarrassed to say that this one was more tedious than many Ubisoft titles. That’s not the kind of thing I want to feel from insomniac.
@Can-You-Believe-Sith more than that, it’s being so wealthy that you have no concept of money except if it’s more or less than you have. That’s the most corrupting aspect of wealth, losing sight of the ground.
Those texts alone indicate some creepy conduct, I can’t imagine what else the dude sent. I feel like these being shared in this manner is an attempt to get him to drop the suit, but if he wants to go ahead and ends up buried that’s his loss.
@Northern_munkey it didn’t exist because the people freaking out are white lunatics screaming about racism being bad and can’t see that they’re the ones being racist. These people won’t ever donate to any charity, they won’t help marginalized communities but they’re happy to freak out about a black dude in a game. Bizarre.
I think it’s a great choice honestly. Caters to two types of players without sacrificing anything. I have my criticisms of these games, Ubisoft, etc but this one is a big fat nothing burger.
It didn’t disappear, it just stopped being understood. What really happened is that Sony tried to turn AA studios into AAA studios and when that didn’t work, they shut them down blaming lack of interest in indies. This is very similar to Jim’s excuse that the vita failed because “no one likes handhelds”. Both are copouts.
It’s looking quite good, but I’ll wait for reviews and general user scores before buying. Given they’ve said they’re confident in the release date before and then delayed it, I’ll reserve judgment. At the end of the day I want to love it, but I’ve watched too many of this publishers “same game different skin” schemes to really be super invested.
Sounds like a really horrific event for staff, bare minimum is usually not remotely close to acceptable. Still, I didn’t know this game released. I heard about it and thought it was to be released later this year, but nope. It came out and died.
I know that some folks aren’t thrilled but this was a banger. Not having release dates for some things is of course not always fun, but I’d rather studios don’t bother to announce dates until they’re ready. It also shows how committed Sony is to fixing Jim Ryan’s mistakes. Great showcase, excited for what comes next.
@Oram77 agreed. Should be a reminder that corporate leadership of Wingefors calibre is worthless. I’ll always remember him as the guy that held a verbal agreement with Saudi Arabia as fact. Loon.
I’m waiting til mid march to preorder, as I figure if I still am intrigued I’ll go for it. I just want to enjoy games, man. If it flops oh well, but it looks enjoyable enough to get a good hundred hours out of. Granted I am likely still going to be so deep into monster hunter my own cat will have to hunt me.
@jFug that’s my question too. Black myth was great but I’m not doing anymore of these digital only “with no plans for physical” releases that gets a physical copy a few months later. Looks amazing and if it’s getting a physical copy is a day one buy. If not? That would really be disappointing and I’ll be real, bad for sales.
Usually I’m pretty relaxed about gaming barring bad corporate decisions, but I will happily use the touch grass argument here. Less than 24 hours of down time, if that’s enough to affect your general happiness then I don’t know what to say.
Five days of free subscription time is massive considering the short period it was down.
Considering most of their locations in Toronto barely have games that anyone wants (why hoard copies of anthem? Really?) and are annoyingly cramped I don’t see why they’re so high and mighty.
@UltimateOtaku91 that’s my opinion. For what it’s worth, their current leadership is far far more reasonable and efficient than their old guy who may well wind up in a Yuji Naka situation given his obsession with nfts. Even their response to FFXVI underperforming wasn’t the typical “people don’t like this” and instead was a very professional “competition was fierce and we released too many of our own titles in close proximity, resulting in cannibalism of the game’s sales”.
I don’t care much for WW but the nemesis system being used was enough to pique my interest. Without it? Just cancel it and move on, good god this company cannot do anything right under current leadership.
Good to hear! I’m glad they’re acknowledging the desire for themes finally. I’d imagine more will be released in the future, but it’s smart to not over promise. Cough cough, GGG.
@ProfessorNiggle I’m hopeful it will do well but also reluctant to be hopeful. Current leadership sees a big hit and then squanders the surge in stock value by getting too greedy, but at the same time I really would prefer less of a joint venture. They never go well, look no further than bungie. Though to be fair I celebrated bungie getting absorbed by Sony, they’d been the industry’s problem spouse for a long time. Ubisoft is just a weird company that has strange leadership.
@ProfessorNiggle I don’t disagree, it does look good. But I don’t think it’ll be their golden ticket for a couple of reasons. One, price point. Ubisoft games not only have a habit of going on sale quickly but they also are overpriced for what they are. Likely one of the reason they scrubbed the gold, ultimate etc editions as it makes the game a harder sell. Two, and honestly a bigger issue, is their public image. They committed to a second year of Skull and Bones despite no one bothering really, and they also claimed they would keep X Defiant alive and then killed it shortly after.
With the Animus launcher coming out alongside Shadows (or before if they decide to bump it up), there’s also the potential for a similar issue to CoD where all the games are installed even if you don’t own them. The different is that despite my own dislike of CoD, it sells very very well. Ubisoft has been making many choices to put off people from buying their games.
Time will tell, but I do not see it as a golden ticket for them. They need to release the game completely flawless with no design flaws at all for that, and already it’s apparent there’s some major issues with the presentation. All it will take is another developer saying some very stupid things on social media to sink the boat. I don’t like Tencent getting involved, but I also won’t act like current leadership is sensible.
Glad to hear! Not sure if anyone is playing 8k on pc but I’m glad pc players can finally play this one. It’s the kind of game I would only play on the ps5, but all the same I’m happy more can enjoy it. It’s not perfect at all but it’s special, as few games really do a decent job at cracking this kind of period in history.
@ProfessorNiggle there was an article on pcgamer recently that quoted the developers as saying the equivalent of “we need a ninja if it’s Japan so what if we had a samurai too!” Just a bunch of out of touch folks, I’m sure the game won’t be terrible but the issue is that Ubisoft needs a sure fire hit given the scenario they’ve gotten themselves into. I don’t think this will be it. The guillemot family needs to go.
@NorrinRadd a good example of it being worse is Yasuke can legitimately just bash through some walls. But doing it seems clunky, like there’s a 50/50 chance he’ll hop onto it or bash through. I don’t expect feudal Japan to function like manhattan, that’d be stupid. But placing limits on your own design is very strange.
@ProfessorNiggle it’s very confusing, there’s literally no reason for it outside of making the player do things they may not want to. Even games like Elden ring, with some builds being just broken, are doable with others even if the difficulty is much higher.
To prevent people from playing the game in a way they enjoy for no apparent reason is just a very bad move.
@ProfessorNiggle the biggest issue most are taking is the forced transitioning between characters due to Yasuke literally not being able to climb some things. I just don’t get it, and this kind of “we’re giving players choices but only when we want them to choose to accomplish something or accomplish nothing” makes it a wait for a clearance deal for me. That being said, all Ubisoft games tend to go for cheap very soon after launch due to the public distrust in the brand.
Looks better than the last showing and I’m definitely interested. But at launch? I don’t think so. You actually think I’m going to be done with monster hunter in a couple of weeks?
Sony themselves have said they will do cross generation formats for the next generation given the slower adoption rate and value proposition of a new console. While they could always back track, I would imagine the losses from not selling software would be far more damaging than not selling a buck load of new hardware. I finally got the ps5 pro and could not be happier, and have no intention of getting the next console on launch given the extremely long wait for true next gen titles beyond a select few. I’m too old for that and frankly have bigger fish to fry, life doesn’t wait for tech.
I would but I’m in Canada and the time has come to not buy as many games due to our stupid taxes. 13% is not reasonable for a game. But I also feel that the price (66 CAD) is a lot for a remake (this isn’t a remaster, period, this is far too big of an upgrade) that has no physical option.
@KoopaTheGamer ahhh I see! This definitely makes sense, and complicates the IP if it wasn’t sufficiently different from the original version. Very messy but very sad situation. Clearly all parties involved are extremely talented so it’s just a really distressing situation. Thank you for the history lesson, I wasn’t privy to that.
@Blauwe_Chimay I’ll be dead by the time kingdom hearts completes its story. Not being negative but cmon, 4 is said to be the beginning of the end of the story? Maybe coming out when I’m 38? Sheesh, we’re in a weird generation of unfinished stories I feel.
This is very alarming honestly. I never got into Celeste, but the reasoning here is really eerie. My interpretation, correct or not, is that leadership felt they had IP rights and the rest of the team didn’t agree. The fact they all left sounds like they weren’t allowed to utilize the work they poured into Celeste at all, which if true is really really disgusting. While I’m sure privacy is vital here, the optics are really ugly. I can’t imagine they didn’t have some kind of agreement/contract in place here. I’d be interested in hearing the rest of the developers side of the story.

Looks better than the last showing and I’m definitely interested. But at launch? I don’t think so. You actually think I’m going to be done with monster hunter in a couple of weeks?
Re: You May Not Need to Upgrade to PS6 for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, Says Producer
Re: Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Remasters an Action Classic, Out Now on PS5
I would but I’m in Canada and the time has come to not buy as many games due to our stupid taxes. 13% is not reasonable for a game. But I also feel that the price (66 CAD) is a lot for a remake (this isn’t a remaster, period, this is far too big of an upgrade) that has no physical option.
Re: Celeste Developer Cancels New Game Earthblade
@KoopaTheGamer ahhh I see! This definitely makes sense, and complicates the IP if it wasn’t sufficiently different from the original version. Very messy but very sad situation. Clearly all parties involved are extremely talented so it’s just a really distressing situation. Thank you for the history lesson, I wasn’t privy to that.
Re: Silent Hill F Resurfaces with a Korean Age Rating
@Blauwe_Chimay I’ll be dead by the time kingdom hearts completes its story. Not being negative but cmon, 4 is said to be the beginning of the end of the story? Maybe coming out when I’m 38? Sheesh, we’re in a weird generation of unfinished stories I feel.
Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows to Debut 2 Hours of Gameplay on Thursday
I’m hopeful it’ll be good but man, even if it s smashing success that family cannot learn positive lessons if their lives depended on it.
Re: Celeste Developer Cancels New Game Earthblade
This is very alarming honestly. I never got into Celeste, but the reasoning here is really eerie. My interpretation, correct or not, is that leadership felt they had IP rights and the rest of the team didn’t agree. The fact they all left sounds like they weren’t allowed to utilize the work they poured into Celeste at all, which if true is really really disgusting. While I’m sure privacy is vital here, the optics are really ugly. I can’t imagine they didn’t have some kind of agreement/contract in place here. I’d be interested in hearing the rest of the developers side of the story.
