Re: Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase Will Debut 'New Details' Next Week

Coffeeglitch

800p upscale to 1080p on ps5 pro! Wooo!

Obviously this is highly highly unlikely but it does justify some humor given the currently listed requirements on PC (4090 for 1080p 60 fps from using frame gen). That’s just… weird. I have a feeling it’s an error but this is the only thing that’s given me pause on my excitement. After DD2 I’m cautious.

Re: WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers May Be Another PS5 Soulslike, But At Least It Looks Decent

Coffeeglitch

Not tired of these at all because they all lately have done something that fromsoftware does, but better. Lies of P took every flaw of bloodborne and made it better, black myth did the same for Elden ring. Don’t get me wrong, flaws are different everyone. Most of the time it’s the fromsoftware jank I don’t like, the camera, the poor balancing and some very blatantly unfun boss design. These games have that too, but in a far lesser capacity.

When they start copying eachother and really getting sloppy like fromsoft kind of has, then I’ll be ready to give up.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Statue Manufacturer Pulls Controversial, 'Insensitive' Design

Coffeeglitch

Just to play devils advocate, this isn’t out of any malice. The west has been appropriating Japanese culture heavily for a while now, and the last bit has been overkill (don’t get me wrong Edgerunners is great, but it’s still a very western brand). This is just what happens when no one complains and companies get sloppy and reckless. And boy am I happy to see the backlash. It’s amazing to take inspiration from another culture, as it helps to broaden that culture’s impact and relevance. But altering core aspects of that culture solely to cater to markets that are not predisposed to it is ill advised.

Don’t forget, Ubisoft is a Canadian firm. That’s the funny thing, Canada has been shrieking about progression but this is…not it. I’m in Canada and yeah, it’s weird.

Re: Like Clockwork, Lies of P Will Be Enhanced on PS5 Pro

Coffeeglitch

The best thing about this is that the game was incredibly well oiled from day one. This studio is incredible, so whatever had to be done to optimize it for the pro was likely minimal. I may not be on PlayStation anymore but this studio knows what’s up, bring on the dlc!

Re: Opinion: The Price of Playing PS5 Games Day One Is Getting Higher and Higher

Coffeeglitch

My stance is that a higher price is fine if quality is of equal improvement. Clearly in most cases it is not. Tim Sweeney defended the price increase and cited the cost of unreal engine 5 as a key factor. However, the vast majority of developers are not using UE5 yet are still absolutely gouging prices. There’s a reason mmos and games that are live service still exist. The value of subscribing to FFXIV or WoW simply eclipses most new games, which is problematic because those games don’t always do much to keep things fresh or interesting.

The industry wants to charge a premium while diminishing quality of goods. This is what’s driving layoffs and closures, and will eventually cause a massive crash. I don’t buy day one most of the time, and have left PlayStation after almost 20 years because the value proposition of ps plus is horrendous. Not to mention the lack of games that really can justify the cost of the hardware.

Times change. If an industry doesn’t adapt in a full capacity and simply remains complacent it starts to fail. It’s simple.

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on PS5 Pro?

Coffeeglitch

@NeonMullet earlier this year I made that exact choice. Being new to Pc gaming at 34 years old, I just started with a prebuilt for 1500 after taxes CAD. Spec wise runs everything I throw at it, minimal frame issues and haven’t ever seen below 58 fps with maxed out Raytracing and all. It’s nuts, and at that I have no mandatory subscription to spend on and a free ecosystem to get better deals in.

I’m happy.

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on PS5 Pro?

Coffeeglitch

Over a thousand in Canada after currency conversion and tax. Also no disk drive, I know it’s against ToS to sell PlayStation accounts but I’m done. Never been so proud to have left an ecosystem.

Re: PS5 Pro Showcase Set for Tomorrow, Hosted by Mark Cerny

Coffeeglitch

@Intr1n5ic it will be in Canada but that’s just because our dollar is worthless from having a toddler as leader for eight years, plus the insane tax. Most people in the US I’ve spoken to have said that 550 is their pinnacle for what they’re willing to pay, but I have no doubt it’ll be more than that. I’m honestly anticipating 650 USD. Which in Canada’s converts to almost 1000 (our taxes in Ontario are 13%, laugh it up becuase it’s ridiculous). Console sales here are already really horrible, save for Switch.

Re: PS5 Pro Showcase Set for Tomorrow, Hosted by Mark Cerny

Coffeeglitch

@LogicStrikesAgain I’m already unforgiving, if a developer can’t even get a game to be a stable 60 fps at 1440p and still struggle with crashes, memory leaks and stuttering? Shut em down, honestly. A large swathe of these issues are due to studios refusing to use unreal engine 5 as its upfront cost is sizeable. That said, eventually UE4 will be retired and they won’t have a choice. This was the generation I gave up on console after 17 years as a PlayStation enthusiast. Still hoping for a turnaround but this has been one dumpster fire of a generation

Re: PS5 Pro Showcase Set for Tomorrow, Hosted by Mark Cerny

Coffeeglitch

This entire generation’s future is going to depend on the price point coupled with developer compliance. The only true next gen games so far are from smaller studios (lies of p, stellar blade, black myth, returnal) and the latter was bought up by Sony with literally no news about its output since. It’s time to stop pursuing pandemic era business models and get back to basics.

Re: Internal Sony Fairgame$ PS5, PC Chatter Is Reportedly Quite Positive

Coffeeglitch

This is going to sound really horrible, but I’m excited for this one and not because it looks good. It’s the last (that we know of) when it comes to the lineup of “live services”. So once it’s out we can look forward to some actual good content, either that or PlayStation will just go and off itself. The problem is that right now there is literally nothing coming out that can justify the enormous price point of the ps5 pro (700 to 800 CAD is too high, man, especially when developers are consistently failing to optimize for the console) and I don’t see this game doing any better than concord because as an industry we’re hitting enormous live service fatigue. Remember when WoW came out? Everyone wanted to be the next wow killer. Where are they now? Gamigo? Now everyone wants to compete with Destiny, and even that game is dying due to costing too much. A bad and destructive trend that needs to end, and while I admire the talent behind Haven I don’t want anymore of these things.

Most people agree which is why Concord is where it is.

Re: Concord PS5, PC Sales Estimates Are Somehow Even Worse Than We Thought

Coffeeglitch

This is genuinely depressing. It’s clear a lot of heart and talent was put into it the game but it’s been really killed by two things: silence regarding the games monetization model and the up front price. Many other hero shooters are free to play, why is this different? What does it offer that they don’t? Why do you have to choose a new hero after every match? How do you even truly enjoy the characters if you’re blocked from using them after one round? How do seasons work? Buy once play forever, sure, but surely seasons cost something?

These are all questions the developers danced around or outright refused to answer, and the general consensus is that it’s because the answer isn’t a good one.

Gamers are far more cynical than we used to be because we’re tired of games launching as get rich quick schemes, trend chasing or just buggy messes. Developers need to adapt to that. It’s not that your game is bad, it’s that you need more to sell us on it. The same exact formula as five, six or ten years ago at a higher price point doesn’t work. Copies will sell, sure, but breaking even with the development cost is becoming less and less common. Developers, the toxic ones that can’t kick a Twitter addiction that is, used to say that if gamers don’t like it then don’t buy it. Less and less people are buying now, and those same people are silent. This is what happens when you alienate your community.

Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Design Seemingly Leaked

Coffeeglitch

Couple things here. There needs to be a disc drive for one, though to keep the cost down it’s likely it’ll be sold seperately only. This is…not a solution.

Second, good lord I still find it ugly to this day. The most pretentious, eye stinging thing I’ve seen and I want it to go away.

Re: Japan Hit with Yet Another PS5 Price Increase

Coffeeglitch

@Dr_ENT folks in Canada are expecting it to cost 799 CAD, which with tax is going to range from 900 to 1000. At this point, if these companies keep doing this, console will flat out die because no one wants to buy a console that costs more than a PC of equal specs. Sony is flying very close to the sun.

For anyone confused as to why tax would equal nearly 1/8 of the console price, in Ontario sales tax is 13% because of an aboriginal tax that was intended to support indigenous reserves and heritage sites. It was scrapped years ago but they just left it in. Some retail spaces still list both taxes separately and cause confusion as a result.

Re: Things Are Getting Worse for Floundering PS5, PC FPS Concord

Coffeeglitch

Outside of Marathon and Fairgames (feeling like that’s been cancelled), this was the last of the live service initiative wasn’t it? So hopefully they at least can ensure there won’t be more wasted investment and time for something no one wants. No shade at the devs, barring the one guy who is being obnoxious and unprofessional. The game obviously had passionate people, but their talent would have been better spent elsewhere.

Re: Lies of P Sequel Jumping Straight to Elden Ring, Neowiz Seeks Open World Experience

Coffeeglitch

I didn’t give up on souls likes. But after Elden Ring I gave up on fromsoft. They pioneered the genre and that’s obviously to credit for games like Lies of P existing. But Lies of P, Black Wukong and even Stellar Blade (despite not being a souls like really) have something from’s souls games don’t: refinement. The jankiness and issues with gameplay precision and boss design in from’s games have gotten progressively worse over time, and I just don’t see it as ever really being fixed or improved upon. Other devs are picking up the torch and just doing it better.

Love fromsoft, but their souls games simply don’t hold the magic they used to for me. Feels like I’m just playing the same exact game but bigger in scope, and that’s not as satisfying as perhaps it once was.

Re: People Are Already Freaking Out Over Monster Hunter Wilds' PS5 Frame Rate

Coffeeglitch

@ShogunRok I definitely sympathize with those situations, absolutely! That being said, there have been exceptions to the whole “deadline, shareholder” shindig. The one coming to mind off the bat is Wild Hearts, where EA of all companies insisted that if the devs needed more time to optimize they can do that and publish a delay announcement. The devs insisted that it was fine and, sadly, that ended poorly. That game deserved an entire franchise and faltered because of the developers being arrogant.

But yeah I definitely agree that’s it’s not all black and white. Can’t forget the ps5’s hdmi transfer speed issues as well, where even a solid 30 looks worse than a solid 30 on the switch due to whatever chicanery Sony is pulling. I’m really hopeful that the ps5 pro or whatever is next will at the very least fix that, because it’s unacceptable and sometimes makes it hard to tell if the issue is optimization or just the hdmi being shoddy.

Re: People Are Already Freaking Out Over Monster Hunter Wilds' PS5 Frame Rate

Coffeeglitch

60 fps needs to be bog standard on current gen consoles. I’m vocal about performance and developer failures to optimize being the reason I finally gave up on consoles, but I’m still disappointed that this generation has by and large been useless. Graphics are not nearly the leap they need to be to justify such poor performance and I don’t think the next generation will be as easy to sell, though it’ll still burn through shelves. At the end of the day developers are the problem and I’m getting tired of people defending them, small or large. The hardware can absolutely run this at 60 fps, even if that’s only at 1440p.

Re: Site News: Where's Our Black Myth: Wukong PS5 Review?

Coffeeglitch

This sounds like it could be really bad. Also as an aside, the ps5 version has no disc. This is something that has not been properly communicated by most vendors, as it’s a download code only. Source: my buddy runs a game shop and his distributor notified him prior to shipping.

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Release Date Dropping Tomorrow, BioWare Promises Loads of Gameplay Details

Coffeeglitch

Look, I’ve every reason to dislike newer games. But while the gameplay isn’t what I’ve come to expect from dragon age, it does look enjoyable and I will absolutely be playing this one. I play games to have to fun, and if that’s my experience here it’s worth it to me.

Hopefully the devs can just behave and not say anything too sketchy, because art shouldn’t have to be separated from the artist.

Re: Movie Review: Borderlands - As Bland As the Brand It's Based On

Coffeeglitch

@DonJorginho was wondering the same. Love the games but this movie just looks horrible. Something tells me there’s not a scene where characters argue about the Color of their guns, compare them and cuss each other out over it. Even a five minute segment like that would be better than whatever is on the menu here.

Re: Two Star Wars Outlaws DLC Packs Set for Fall and Spring 2025

Coffeeglitch

@MFTWrecks not even a year anymore. This company is in the pits. Avatar was 30 bucks Canadian with one a few months. Ubisoft won’t exist in its current form in a few years. Presumably they’ll start a second company, move wealth over and “buy” Ubisoft to try and rebrand. Can’t wait to see the courts up here eat them alive.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, look up the CEO’s statement a few years back about going private and basically acquiring themselves.

Re: Two Star Wars Outlaws DLC Packs Set for Fall and Spring 2025

Coffeeglitch

Like all Ubisoft games in the last two years, I’ll get it on a clearance sale. They know full well the vast majority don’t buy them at launch due to the bizarre pricing model so they discount them quickly to sell at their “real” price. By the way, the version with the season pass is 200 dollars in Canada after tax. They’re a Canadian firm, they know what they’re doing.

Re: Sony Boss Hermen Hulst Allegedly Taking Control of Bungie as Ex-Employees Call for Current CEO to Leave

Coffeeglitch

@CielloArc they really need to take a gander at the actual acquisition agreement. While not easily accessible it can be dug up with enough work, and it’s very telling. Ryan anticipated this. He was not the greatest leader for the brand but he was not an idiot at all. Bungie is notorious for being obnoxious and arrogant. This was an investment banking on their continued ineptitude. And it paid off. Whether it pays off to the tune of 3.6 billion is up in the air, certainly won’t be clear anytime soon. But this was an IP acquisition.

Bungie wasn’t what Sony bought. They bought Destiny, Marathon and whatever else they were working on.

I’m not going to lie, the ruthlessness of that decision is admirable. Not every day you buy a company knowing they’ll fail and taking the spoils.

Re: Sony Boss Hermen Hulst Allegedly Taking Control of Bungie as Ex-Employees Call for Current CEO to Leave

Coffeeglitch

@TommyNL the guy was responsible for Killzone, he should have been leading Playstation from the get go and not Jim Ryan. Sonys current leadership setup, with Hulst running PlayStation and a different dude (forget his name, sorry!) running Sonys other stuff is what I’ve pushed for since Ryan took over. Ryan is a hardware guy, not software and had no business making software related decisions.

Re: Sony Boss Hermen Hulst Allegedly Taking Control of Bungie as Ex-Employees Call for Current CEO to Leave

Coffeeglitch

@BeerIsAwesome this has been my stance. Jim Ryan was not the greatest leader and caused a lot of issues for Sony. But he has the foresight to make sure that the acquisition has stipulations in the event bungie continues the same behaviour they’ve exhibited for over a decade. That is why I believe bungie was acquired. IPs and presumably many of the developers, most of who have now been fired.

Good riddance to Bungie, and I hope many of the people who lost their jobs (who Sonys interim CEO praised) are able to be either hired back by Sony or provided better benefits than bungies leadership has been willing to give.

Re: Bungie Accused of Overselling Itself to Sony, Promising Success It Couldn't Deliver

Coffeeglitch

@NEStalgia if I remember correctly shareholders weren’t happy about this acquisition in the first place, with Ryan brushing off their concerns like a guy riding a motorcycle on the 401 with no helmet, shorts and a tank top saying “I know what I’m doing! Gosh!”

I’m not really sure what his logic was here, while the guy is a good salesman he’s not much a leader. The current leadership situation is what should have been the go to instead of one clueless guy leading multiple divisions.

Re: Bungie Accused of Overselling Itself to Sony, Promising Success It Couldn't Deliver

Coffeeglitch

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it until the cows come home. Bungie is a problem spouse, that person that sees themselves as a gift to the universe but destroys everything they touch. And eventually they wind up with someone who kills them. It’s a horrific analogy but for many years that has been this company. Being absorbed by Sony is a better fate than being dissolved entirely, though. Their IPs are very strong but their leadership has been unprofessional, to put it mildly. And by mildly I mean “I neutered my opinion because I don’t want to be so crude”.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Summer Gaming Habits?

Coffeeglitch

Honestly I’ve just been playing here and there when I feel like to. Been much more active this year but on rainy days like today I tend to just relax and bounce between wow, smt, wuthering waves and first descendant. Don’t really play longer than a few hours a day though, I don’t stay entertained for as long as I used to.

Re: Concord's Free Open Beta Is Performing Abysmally on PC

Coffeeglitch

Out of all the live service PlayStation stuff, helldivers 2 is the only one doing well. The reason? It’s natural. Helldivers 2 was designed around an idea, the devs having a vision of what the game should be. This abomination is just forced. Why is it live service? Why a hero shooter? There’s no reason for it to exist in its current form, except to chase trends. I don’t understand it.

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Not the 'Right Game' for 'Nasty' Blood Magic

Coffeeglitch

@Northern_munkey this game is the bones of what the original version was: a coop hero game set within dragon age. Everything they’re saying, from “super fun combat” to “blood magic isn’t for heroes” just makes it clear they probably don’t even have the ability to implement it as the game systems are locked in. Still ridiculous.

Re: Doubt Cast Over PS5 Pro Actually Releasing This Year

Coffeeglitch

@Andy22385 completely agree. My big concern stems from Sony requiring devs to implement compatibility. Devs are a large part of the issue, so there’s no guarantee a decent number of studios will support it. Hardly any studios support the Dualsense adaptive triggers, can’t imagine it’s super challenging.

Re: Doubt Cast Over PS5 Pro Actually Releasing This Year

Coffeeglitch

@get2sammyb it likely will, I feel. There’s two major trends holding back this generation, the way I see it. One, lack of exclusives and aggressive price hikes with zero justification to offset that lack of titles. Two, developers not optimizing games or chasing unpopular or unstable trends. If the rumors are to be believed then ps5 pro would indirectly punish developers for not making effort, as it’s basically offering to speed up and smooth out gameplay and graphics so long as devs implement the ability for the console to do so.

I just need a proper reason to see benefit to the hardware and ecosystem over other options, and I don’t see it right now.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree?

Coffeeglitch

@Ashkorsair I agree with this. I love the game, love the dlc, but do get very tired of much of the player base failing to be objective. When you enjoy something you should be willing to critique it because you know it can be better, not blindly defend it. Poor design choices are poor design choices, bad performance is bad performance. It doesn’t mean the game is bad, it means there is room for improvement.
