@get2sammyb it likely will, I feel. There’s two major trends holding back this generation, the way I see it. One, lack of exclusives and aggressive price hikes with zero justification to offset that lack of titles. Two, developers not optimizing games or chasing unpopular or unstable trends. If the rumors are to be believed then ps5 pro would indirectly punish developers for not making effort, as it’s basically offering to speed up and smooth out gameplay and graphics so long as devs implement the ability for the console to do so.
I just need a proper reason to see benefit to the hardware and ecosystem over other options, and I don’t see it right now.
Given the lack of anything remotely close to a platform seller this year, they’d be idiotic not to. If I was given a reason to return I’d consider it. Currently Sony is doing everything in their power to chase people away, so who knows?
@Ashkorsair I agree with this. I love the game, love the dlc, but do get very tired of much of the player base failing to be objective. When you enjoy something you should be willing to critique it because you know it can be better, not blindly defend it. Poor design choices are poor design choices, bad performance is bad performance. It doesn’t mean the game is bad, it means there is room for improvement.
Definitely playing it a lot, but I can’t say it’s all that fun presently. Part of that is burnout, even after two years I dread having to go back to round table hold to upgrade, reacquiring bell bearings etc. I feel the sentiment toward the dlc being so mixed is the time lapse combined with the brutally poor tuning. There’s a point where it may have just been better to make a standalone game.
I’ll be perfectly honest, the dlc is so damn hard that it very well may be the first piece of fromsoft content I don’t beat. A very particular boss that is a callback to Dark Souls 3 is just…unreal. I don’t think trophies would feel as good as killing it, but six hours of death after powering up is pretty poor tuning
@PuppetMaster Couldn't have said it better. I could easily run Elden ring at 4K hdr attracted 120 fps on my pc but why? It’s the kind of game I want to chill on my couch and enjoy like that, not at my desk. Sure the fps dips, graphics aren’t as good but it’s more comfortable and more enjoyable as a result.
I do think there is a line to be drawn, though, when performance and quality are substandard on all spectrums. Scarlet and Violet are prime examples of this, there was nothing to scream “this is art” to me. Old pixels on the game boy felt more artistic.
@get2sammyb well said. The amount of enjoyment I’ve gotten from rise of the ronin justifies the price tag in my eyes. Elden Ring doesn’t even need to be mentioned (660 hours thus far, the dlc will be my grave). Games that are expensive with their design and aesthetic, having purpose in their gameplay, etc will always be better than a “lifelike experience to truly live in bla bla bla”.
Good graphics don’t always mean higher quality. Spider-Man 2 was a wake up call for me to stop buying so many day one releases.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for June 2024?
Downgraded to essential in march and haven’t looked back. I don’t need day one releases, but at least stuff that came out in the last year.
