@Anke I never played MH: Rise with anyone but randoms. I really enjoyed either getting a full-on scrub team - where you might be the god in the group. Or get some insane JP that would be flipping out all over the monsters - deleting it and you just there to pick up the pinata prizes. If you go in with a good attitude it doesn't matter if you wipe or if you see some guy doing things you didn't know could be done.

I expect more of the same here. Just casual fun where you get to blast waves of enemies rather than one big baddie. But I am assuming this game is waves > then big baddie > collect loot.

@Anke It's Capcom. Capcom is top-tier lobby co-op developer - if not the absolute best.

It's Monster Hunter with Exosuits and a sci-fi vibe. They know better than anyone how to make a fun game. I'd give it a chance.

I hope they do put out a PS5 demo soon.

No, the AI Butlerian jihads are always this ominous warning, this ever-present thing that forms the Dune universe. It is implied it was awful and reached every corner of the universe. Every law reverberates that event.

That's what I love about Dune - they don't spell everything out.

@Amnesiac what is there going to be for us to do? The world is going to be like 'Downton Abbey'. It's going back to the gilded age with lords and their serfs cleaning all of their forks. Or mass warfare when people can't eat. Or our lives like a Cyberpunk game/novel but it won't be cool at all.

@get2sammyb if the acting was terrible this would be terrible. But from this trailer the actors look pretty good for such a goofy idea. And the gimmick jokes seem to hit - with me they do.

@pharos_haven accurate. I will say if you are into shmups a stick is also really nice. But the Switch is the place for those - not here.

edit: looks like @Tintin beat me to the punch on the shmups call. some of these sticks are multiplatform. I guess you can use it anywhere.

I did some research today I think I'm going to go with the Mayflash F300 Elite. It has good reviews, is affordable, works on multiple systems, has good parts and is customizable. Cool controllers are worth it imho. I used to have a Hori way back when with the 360 - I don't think it is compatible any longer.

Some of the jokes made me chuckle. Will Arnett as a sadistic clown is fun.

SoF 4 is one of my favorite couch co-op brawlers of forever. I think Dotemu are the best at brawlers.

@pharos_haven you can get decent ones from $50-100. $300 is pretty crazy unless this is all you play or are a master level fighter or tour.

@Mauzuri Video games is the only entertainment medium where most popular always means better. I've bought lesser systems before and it sucks (I learned this lesson as a wee lad with the TurboGraphx16). The one that wins the generation has the most 3rd party support ergo the most diverse sets of gaming.

Movies, music, canvas art is more subjective where someone might create for the sake of art instead of dollars. Never really in gaming. It is always business first and it always chases the largest market.

@Drago201 Ah that is a good point. GTA V is a huge bomb. They should take the servers offline and stop making the series.

I mean, If someone is willing to buy 8 copies to get currency is the game really all that popular? I don't think so. The 4th mobile version of Final Fantasy 3 is more popular.

Thanks for this review! This is out of my price range for my skill level - but it did lead me down the road to find a sub $100 stick that will serve me well. Nice write up Sammy!

SE is going to remake all of it's games. Why are people hoping this is real? Of course they are that is what they do.

FF16 has thus far undersold it's predecessor FF15, by a wide margin, in the same time frame.
There were numerous articles about the top brass were nervous about pre-orders - indicating the game was going to do poorly. They were correct.
Final Fantasy couldn't hold number 1 for two weeks. And indie game pushed it. In it's 2nd week it sold 90% less.
Here is a quote from Toyo Securities. An analyst in the country of Final Fantasy's origin country - which is Japan:
"Hideki Yasuda, an analyst at Toyo Securities, said, ``This is a very poor result, and it will be impossible to increase sales further unless the price is significantly lowered.'' He points out that "most of the failure is a result of the pre-publicity and the actual game itself being too far removed from the Final Fantasy of the past, leaving consumers behind."

What do you think? What the budget is matters of course. But it looks rather expensive.

@wiiware I'm not saying SF6 is a success. That is for capcom to decide according to their projections. I do know that Final Fantasy XVI is a bomb though - because it's on track to undersell the game everyone loathes.

@Luvstagrind It got insanely high praise. Which I believe is a good reason they didn't necessarily need to go the gamepass route.

I'm also making the assumption capcom liked the gamepass route with Rise - so they did it again here.

Personally I can't wait. It's the game I most want to play this summer. Dumb, co-op lobby fun where I get to show Dinosaurs that humans are their masters in any age.

To me Rise is the game of this entire generation. No one does lobby co-op as well as Capcom. I expect that here too.

@GeneJacket I'm not ignoring anything. I bought the game it's first day. Obviously it was the first day it was released on a console that wasn't the switch. I assumed everyone knew it was on the switch for almost 2 years.

@wiiware SE fans have to rationalize the failure of Final Fantasy any way they can - including bringing Capcom into the conversation.

Final Fantasy 16 is a bomb. There will be a shakeup at the increasinly defunct Square Enix by year's end. You are going to get Final Fnatasy 1-6 Pixel Remaster- II sometime next year. Square Enix sucks. Get over it.

@DrClayman This is the most true post about Street Fighter I've ever read. Everything you said is spot on.

It is your game you should have fun how you want. I will back up Clayman by saying there is no possible way you are going to ruin someone's experience. Only 2 things can happen in an online fight: 1) You win. Yay! I won! 2) You lose. Boo, that isn't as fun as winning(sometimes). The other guy gets his win and moves on you learn a little and move on yourself.

That's it. No one is going to quit their job to tour the Evo championships because you won or lost an online match. Have fun people! This game is awesome! I hope it sells 10M copies and Street Fighter exists forever.

Cheap collector's edition ploy: They already did that in 2K21.

@WhensDinner playing them in order of the year they supposedly take place is a really bad idea. It takes away from the artistic merit of the series.

@Uncharted2007 MK has no competitive scene. Ppl play it more for the single player and fatalities. You miss years of SF competitiveness you may as well not even play. It's apples and oranges to me. No one cares about someone who waits for a sale in fighters. They exist as a komplete afterthought and should be ignored kompletely. they are.

@GymratAmarillo that might be correct for most fighters - but you are 100% dead wrong about Street Fighter. SF doesn't die until the next one is released. People play it for years and nothing else. The only other fighter that can say this today is Smash Brothers.

@Uncharted2007 Capcom sold their AAA fighter at $10 less than the going rate on day 1. So I guess get on your knees and thank them.

@Cordyceps you should hop in. I'm too trash to pull off the complicated inputs for the super cool moves. The game makes shortcuts for those super accessible. Is it really that different than high end arcade sticks where you made input macros? No.

Pros will still wipe the floor with scrubs in the footsies game. But for people like me I can concentrate on the fight rather than worrying about whether I got the first down motion right or not.

It could be. But Sony has lost an insane amount of market share to Nintendo. This may simply be a play to get that back. They have only recently repaired supply issues. I do not think they would immediately go into a new SKU once they finally repaired a problem.

This is a fire sale. Selling consoles is a loss leader. Games are where the money is - and Sony is failing miserably this gen.

@DrClayman The tour isn't perfect - but imo it is more fun than any other single player experience on a fighter to date.

I wish they'd allow these passes to last a month instead of every two weeks. They aren't hard - I just like to casually complete them.

@Max_the_German It's funny to me how people may think FF releasing at this or that time affects sales. There was a time, not that long ago, when all but a small handful of publishers would have feared to go against the FF series at any time of year. It was a juggernaut. Now it isn't. Tastes have changed and SE isn't near a top-tier company.

Autumn release dates were more important when it was only parents buying games for their kids.

Do this same poll in a year - once the new sheen has worn off - and it will have changed places. Likely dramatically.

@JJtheTexan not a great example. Square releases one bad game after another. FF16 will fail to meet expectation and double digit layoffs will occur within the next 6 months.
