Re: State of Play Livestream Revealed for Thursday, a Focus on Indie and Third-Party Games

@MinotauroBJJ MS has more than Starfield - Forza is releasing next month and by all accounts it is shaping up to be something special.

But they also have all of the gamepass games releasing day 1 which Sony has none of. like Lies of P.

And Nintendo always has something up their sleeve on their Directs. they are the best at the showcases.

pressure is on I think this video was ill-advised at best; a disaster at worst. we'll see Thursday is shaping up to be a fun one!

@somnambulance I really hope Alan Wake 2 is good and I am willing to buy it digital only, even though i prefer the discs, if they knock it out of the park.

I've been doing a rewatch of Twin Peaks: The Return and the switch from the talk show reality to the nightmare kind of fits that vibe i think. I am rooting for the game!

@somnambulance Oh I believe it. Some of my friendships will never be quite the same after the event.

The thing that stuck out the most to me was my kid coming home from kindergarten - the teacher told her "this is what you should think about the pandemic" and then said things. I looked her dead in the eyes, my own eyes absolutely blazing - I said, "DON'T YOU EVER LET ANYONE TELL YOU WHAT YOU SHOULD FEEL ABOUT THIS. NOT YOUR TEACHERS, NOT ME NOT ANYONE! WE HAVE NO RIGHT TO TELL YOU HOW TO FEEL.'" they weren't allowed to talk during lunch and had to put their mask on after they took a bite of food while they chewed it. She was 5. Violent Criminals in prison got more respect.

She was kind of shocked but I think she got it. I'm hoping the covid kid generation brings punk rock back or lights everything on fire in 10 years or something.

@somnambulance I live in georgia - which was really loose with the pandemic. But I lived in an extremely left teeny tiny city that was trying to prove a point. that was my issue. People all over the state were acting normally but this dumb town 4 square miles large was acting like we were in a contagion movie.

I've had covid more times than I can count (well...about 4 or 5 times and I can count to 5) - I always played loose with it and still do. I had the Og covid - before they shut down the county. MLK weekend 2020 was when i contracted it to be exact. I'm like a patient zero

@somnambulance well for Ac it was 3 of us (family) playing constantly for almost 9 months. It was the first game I ever played with my kids. Then MH Rise hit and it was all over for me. That was over 1.5 years roughly with the expansion. I'd dabble in some other games but really just played those constantly. I'll hold both of those games in high regard forever.

I lived in a s*** town that was more restrictive than those around me and everyone was all judgy all of the time when you went outside to enjoy life. At the time these games were a way to avoid those miscreants - whom I came to sincerely loathe. I still do.

good news - I gtfo out of there last summer.

Re: Lies of P (PS5) - No Fibs Found in This Souls-Like Great

As far as the linear thing goes - i saw this game as a cross between a Soulslike and an action adventure like DMC/Bayonetta. In DMC/Bayo enemies, chest etc are very predictable but still can be challenging to get.

I havent played this obviously so i cant argue here - but I'm not sure it should get knocked for it.

Will be playing this on release for sure.

@LifeGirl Nothing close to 2001's spectacle had been done even remotely before that. It influenced all special effects movies that came afterwards. I think it makes Star wars look terrible which came out 8 years afterwards and is universally celebrated.

Some of the docking etc were sexual allegories. The ballet in space was just that - to show the beauty of the unknown. A step in the evolution of mankind.

the drawn out sequences were to build tension. To show the dilemma of man vs machine vs god itself - and the real choices each makes when considering life, death and the eternal soul. There might be three directors that do as much today. David Lynch. Jim Jarmusch in a different way. Guillermo del Toro for more accessible.

It isn't nostalgia with that film. There is only a handful of film makers that dare go into sincere surreal film making. Most don't have the imagination or the guts Kubrick did.

2001 is worth every single bit of hype.

@OScube I don't know. I like having physical copies so i went and shopped for the latest version. i got confused when i only saw PS4 or Xbone versions for the box. is that normal? is there an upgrade option in the menu or something?

sorry I havent even had this latest gen for a very long time and I never owned a ps4 or xbone. I skipped a gen completely for the pc.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 2.0, Phantom Liberty Stream Set for Thursday

question for you fine folks - is this base game running well now? Is it fun/cool?

I stayed so far away from it because of it's launch I never really re-visited the possibility of playing it. but now...

I do love me some Cyberpunk settings. But then I read the cities are empty. Which is really the opposite of what the genre is.

@naruball from the source article:
"But it wasn't the real No.1. Baldur's Gate 3 would almost certainly have taken the crown for August, but Larian is one of the publishers missing from the GSD panel, so unfortunately it doesn't make the chart at all."

Not only are Switch digital games missing but some publishers don't report.

These lists are less than useless. The fact blogs continue to report on them probably keeps them going even though they have no real value. if they stopped - they would have to try harder to get good data.

Re: PS5 Discounts Keep Console, Accessories Selling Gangbusters in the UK

@naruball the game industry will likely be moving towards the movie industry. It is much cheaper to rehash old ideas/games than make new ones. We asked for it, then celebrated it and here it is. It will only get worse.

I personally hate it.

Super happy AC6 seems to be doing well. Coming in 2nd to Europe's soccer obsession ain't bad.

"cause no one cares that Microsoft is buying a bunch of terrible publishers that are vastly pass their prime"
"Only a bunch nerd online that have never felt the touch of a woman"
"It has put lights on some of crazy strong arming tactics"

I can't tell if I'm reading a game blog post or a doctorate dissertation written by a nobel laureate. Your beautiful prose needs to be printed in every major news paper. It is brilliant.

@General_Disarray I feel life is short and there is so much new content to see and do - I'd rather spend that time and money on completely brand new experiences. Since money is always finite to some degree I generally choose to give it to innovation rather than someone milking a thing over and over.

Just my personal way of doing things. I do this in all things except bars and vacations.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Starfield Soars While Mortal Kombat Hype Brings Back 11

@General_Disarray 100%. I've still yet to buy that one again because the first GC version was utter perfection. I don't want to mess up that game in my mind.

Funny you mention it - I was just (like a few days ago) looking at the remake video - really liking the way it looked and thought, "why am I holding on to this stupid, old idea just play the damn thing again!"

but dern I loved that thing when it came out!
