Do some journalistic work, review and preview games. If this is truly still living rent free in your mind (which is kinda sad) then at least write some interesting articles on how the PSN store needs to work to make it viable

I mean again, you'll still get these physical editions with crap like art cards, maps, keyring or whatever bit of overpriced tat

The raids don't work properly and the market place has gone, seasonal events and challenges have gone.
so the point is it hasn't at all been preserved disc or no disc , features are missing as is the nature of modem gaming. The disc isn't a bulletproof vest

Their will literally still be boxed games in stores, they can't loose thor retail partners because not everyone is comfortable buying off a digital store.

If someone sensible can answer that would be great . Only thing I can think of is a store won't process returns anymore on a used code so assume it will be a scratch card of sorts

I mean I no the answer, just sensationalism for clicks but come on, be better. Do a proper reporters job and look to how the PSN store needs features adding to make it work, gifting, stronger sales, trials for all games etc

Yea they can but they won't be the same as they were on release.
Pop.in a disc of avengers or drive club and see how it reacts ...I can tell you it won't be a smooth experience , or in the case of the crew your plastic disc is gonna do absolutely nothing

As for your other point you can still play your digital purchase if it's been delisted . My ancient copy of persona 4 golden still works on my psvita , and can still be downloaded despite there not even being a vita store
What digital stops you from doing is buying it if you didn't already own it. For example if GTA 7 got delisted and you never bought it then you'll not be able to every get again through normal channels. Where as a disc u could find it on eBay or whatever minus all online functionality should the game even run without a check like the crew or diablo 4

I think people don't quite know how this works really , just red mist without reasoning .

That's the issue will all digital in the current space, if an old game gets delisted and you've never purchased it then your screwed out of getting it again and or if you make it a habit to sell/trade your old games

But this weird take of a disc being some form of protection is nonsense

Discs or not, the same thing would happen. A company can switch off online components or delist a game completely even if it as a disc

Please see high profile examples, the crew , Forza horizon 1 to 4, Forza 1 to 7, Friday 13th, gran turismo sport, marvels avengers .

All of them physical releases. I don't know why people think a disc protects the game

The only protection you have is older games with pre heavy online components

They're still selling codes to retailers as is the case with gta.
So if Amazon want to charge five pound less for their code copy of gta6 rather than the PlayStation store price then that's up to them

Pc gaming isnt physical, the Xbox 100 percent won't have physical media with it being a pc also. Nintendo may be wacky enough to still do cartridges for switch 3 I suppose a decade from now I suppose...

Losing discs isn't really an issue as I rarely buy discs anymore for any format, movies, games or music.
And discs have had drm since the PS4 days. See the crew debacle so no faux outrage from me

Well that's what I'm trying to get to the bottom of but I think people just love being outraged tbh.

It's not bothered pc gamers at all having huge digital drm enabled steam libraries for decades.

As for consoles, disc releases have been a nonsense for about a decade now, nothing but a empty case with a flyer if you are lucky with an ad for dlc and a disc that's only used as drm and to partially install the game while a internet download did the rest.

It's the end of am era but we don't get love film dvds in the post anymore either . Or make weekend trips to blockbuster video.

hasn't truly been a proper physical release since the days of PS2. It is what it is, people will moan, the younger generation won't have a clue what the oldies are moaning about.

Seems there will continue to be physical cases at least for those that can't let go

That's cute, but I just looked it up. All games from every major publisher has DRM on steam so that's out the window backing up on your own media apart from Indies

Of course Microsoft are doing it, they wanted this two gens ago, and Sony wouldn't do it if the other wasn't.

The staggered approach gives you time to download and play the game before the next drops rather than being overwhelmed with a big dump, downloading all and playing none of them

Colin and other games journalists, especially those on YouTube unfortunately do make themselves targets.
Scammers no when they've bought or playing a game, their own account name, and that they're likely financially comfortable. Public profiles etc as they've got a community of fans often.

Still an easy fix would just be to implement a memorable word to your account
