Re: Iconic Game Maker Says Japanese Devs Should Stop Trying to Appeal to Westerners

ATaco

@breakneck
A lot of studios cater to the west in that they often bow to our sensibilities rather than focus on their own culture. We've been seeing a lot of things being cut out of changed that wouldn't have been in the past, simply because it would be problematic for a western audience to experience. There is growing outrage over these changes from the Japanese audience, who do not believe they should have to submit to our sensibilities. The most recent thing I can think of was in dragon quest remake where they changed the designs of the outfits to make them more modest (even on the Japanese versions) and got backlash from their Japanese audience. We need to remember that we're not the center of the world and that if we want to play games from other countries we should be prepared to engage with things we don't agree with.

Re: Ubisoft Will Reportedly Fight for Assassin's Creed Shadows, Anti-Harassment Plan in Place

@PegasusActual93
Fair enough, I'll be keeping a keen eye to see if Ubisoft sticks to only the ones actually harassing people.

You guys need to understand that this could be Ubisoft's last chance. If this game flops too, they'll have nothing left. In this desperate stage you don't think they'll try their hardest to stop people from bad mouthing the game? What's the cost of a few lawyers if it means you don't lose the company? This is their last shot and you'd better believe they're going to try every trick in the book.

Re: As War on AI Rages, Two Zenless Zone Zero Stars Say They Were Replaced Without Prior Notice

I'm actually a bit in tune with this community so I'll tell you exactly the impact the strike had. Fans noticed that Lycaon didn't have voice and you know what the majority thought? They thought he was merely busy with his other work.

What's the point of a strike if nobody even knows your striking? AI has no place replacing voice actors but it seems like this isn't going to cut it and you'll lose what work you DO have.

I don't understand how Limp Bizkit doesn't fit? At the time the original games released that's what was in and popular, every kid playing DMC was probably blasting a similar soundtrack.

Ah...if anything it brings back nostalgia of the glorious PS2 era...

I'm confused where you are pulling these percentages from? I just checked psnprofiles.com and I'm seeing these results:

°The last of us(PS3, trophies are separated by difficulty levels):
Easy-59.91%
Normal- 48.82%
Hard- 17.49%
Survivor- 9.49%

°The last of us part 2
-75%

°The last of us remastered (separated by difficulty again)
Easy- 53.30%
Normal- 43.48%
Hard- 16.87%
Survivor- 10.60%

°The last of us part 1
-61.68%

°Part 2 remastered
-69.47%

Considering just how many times TLOU was rereleased those completion numbers are impressive but it can't be denied that a majority of players went through the entirety of part 2...and that was a longer game than the first!

@wildcat_kickz
I'm curious how many people played TLOU2 to the end, I'd like to see data for that. If I had to guess, the sequel sold that many copies purely off name and reputation of its predecessor. If they actually sat through the entire thing would be telling. Maybe we can check trophy data or something, I dunno. Contrary to how I feel about the themes within the game and how they are told, I actually did play the game to completion. I even went and got the plat for it. I'm just curious if people complaining truly were the vocal minority or not.

Re: Latest Monster Hunter Wilds PS5 Update Makes Dozens of Fixes, Here Are the Patch Notes

I didn't run into any of these issues and knock on wood that I continue not to. My main qualms with the game now are quality of life. I really wish we could filter our decorations to find exactly what we're looking for, I wish we could filter armor sets to find particular skills, I wish we could filter the quests page to remove all completed quests and... honestly, most of my complaints is that there's always too much stuff displayed that I wish we could filter out! As someone who likes to use and adjust various armor sets to fit each monster, it just makes my head hurt after a while navigating all those menus.

Re: Poll: So, Is Monster Hunter Wilds 'Too Easy'?

ATaco

@Coffeeglitch
If you're talking about getting stumbled by ally attacks when you refer to flinch free, you actually need a different skill called shock absorber. I've only ever seen it as a decoration but if you don't waste a slot then dual sword and longsword users are an absolute menace hahaha

Re: Poll: So, Is Monster Hunter Wilds 'Too Easy'?

ATaco

Looks like the majority of the voters are still playing through the story mode or "glorified tutorial". Don't really think it's fair to complain about difficulty until you get into high rank. Playing with randoms, I tend to see 1 or 2 carts per fight. The monsters can wipe you out in 1 or 2 hits if you're not careful.

Re: Activision's 'AI Slop' Strikes Again as Fake Crash Bandicoot, Guitar Hero Games Appear Online

ATaco

I really doubt our disgust will matter much in the grand scheme of things. If Activision decides to sell a a zombies game where you run though gates that either add or subtract soldiers to your army while you fight off zombies...it will make so much money. If they make a fall guys style crash bandicoot...it will make so much money. The guitar hero one is the game that might be a gamble.

Re: You Can Get a Head Start on Next Week's Big PS Plus Game

ATaco

"I don't take sides, I make up my own mind and don't need others to try to do it for me."

Then why even read reviews, particularly any 1 or 10 reviews? Those will always be the extreme ends of the spectrum, particularly for user reviews.

"If a developer decides to represent those people then more power to them, it's not for me to decide. It's their IP, they can do what they want with it."

Fair point. The market will speak if that's what people want.

"People may have genuine grievances with a game, I'm not saying they don't. It's unfortunate for them that there is an element who do hijack gaming to spread hate and nonsense."

This element, of course, once again goes both ways. Toxic negativity against toxic positivity.

"I don't see anything wrong with people doing what people do, it's their business not mine. I have my own life to live without worrying about how others live theirs. That's why I think exclusion is absolutely nonsensical. It promotes fear, hate, anger, violence and human history has many examples of where that can lead to."

True enough but I don't think forcing people to change kicking and screaming is the way to go about it. If you demand something of someone then they are much more likely to become even more firmly entrenched in their beliefs and even more combative with you. All this "these people are monsters and bigots because they don't see the world the same way I do" needs to end. Without mutual understanding there can be no harmony.

"If I don't like something I don't buy it."
I believe this is what a lot of people wound up doing, in the end. When you think about it, the people who take the time to right angry and hateful comments on the internet are still only a miniscule fraction of a game's playerbase. Ultimately, if a game is truly good then people will buy it, regardless of any political messaging it may have within.

"It's just that simple and individual people are more than capable of forming an opinion without having to follow the herd."

This is where I hard disagree. Humans in general are herd creatures. There is comfort to be found in being told what to think and how to feel about things, especially if it aligns with personal morals and values that the individual has developed over a lifetime of memories and experiences. A human did not just one day wake up and decide "I'm going to hate X thing now." These feelings are deeply rooted within, which is why it's so hard to convince someone of something when it's how they've seen the world their entire life. I'm not saying this is a good thing or desirable...I'm simply trying to understand how people behave the way they do. Too often we cast aside that which we do not agree with and it only leads to more violence and anger. The worst part is while I understand why someone might behave the way they do, it's another thing entirely to get them to change. We just have to keep trying our best.

Re: Monster Hunter Wilds Breaks Records within Hours of Releasing

ATaco

@TruestoryYep
If already put at least 3 of 4 hours into the game and I can say that I'm totally used to both the visuals and performance. I'm playing on balanced and honestly, both look great to me...then again I'm much more focused on killing the monsters than I am on the frame rate dipping or blurriness of the screen. I will say that so far I'm agreeing that the game might be too easy though. It's still great fun actually hunting the beasts to me. I even took the opportunity to really practice and learn my secondary weapon to add a bit of challenge for myself.
